I’m a 56 year old US Army Cold War Veteran, always liked the S & G original, then I ran across Disturbed’s cover. I cried, I had goosebumps, it effected me like very few songs ever have. I’m an old Rock/Metal guy, have been a fan of Disturbed but didn’t know about them doing this cover until I ran across it on UA-cam

As a 72 year old woman whose husband was in Vietnam, I have definitely heard Simon & Garfunkle's original song many, many times. This was huge during that war. When I fist began watching UA-cam about 10 years ago, this was one of the songs I first watched and thought that I could never like it any more than I did at that time. (I loved the fact that it was easy to actually hear all the lyrics.) I was wrong. Disturbed's version just blew me away. I felt much more emotion with Disturbed version. Bravo! Bravo!

I knew the original version, but frankly it feels like 2 different songs.
Simon & Garfunkel sound ... "Cute", I never really paid attention to the meaning of the lyrics.
David (from Disturbed) gives meaning and intensity to every word he says. It gains so much more impact with his delivery.

I was born in 1998 and grew up listening to the original Simon & Garfunkel version of “The Sound of Silence,” and it was one of my favorites as a child. Disturbed was playing a concern near my hometown in Ohio in highschool and I went with my friends. They played this song, fire erupted from the stage, a storm was brewing throughout the concert and lightning hit (literally) when this song was introduced... and I already knew the words, but they felt powerful and god-like in that moment. I’ll never forget when everyone crowded into the pavilion and raised their arms, and truly related to the words that were sang so long ago by a new voice. It was special.

I saw Simon & Garfunkel on a video when they were much older and they still had a great sound between them. Harmony was wonderful. Disturbed's rendition was like a 2023 version of 1964 song. The Official Video has a wonderful moving Black & White of the way these word's would play out on a screen. Until I saw the video, I was less aware of the impact. The people on one island had the sheet music they wrote but no one sang or played their music, and the other group had the instruments, which maybe they had no music to play. The video starts out with all the instruments being trashed and junked. I have watched that video probably 30 times now. Powerful video! We were warned in 1964 and now once again, this powerful voice has warned us what has happened to us in 59 years.

I grew up in the 60's and always loved Simon and Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence". When my son showed me Disturbed's music video of their cover of it, it just reached into my soul! I am SO glad you reacted to the music video rather than the live version-- which is great, but it's the visuals of the video that make it SO powerful! Now, react to Pentatonix' cover of the Sound if Silence. If you are not familiar with Pentatonix, they are 5 person a capella group that will absolutely blow you away. All three versions are masterpieces in their own right, so it's not a matter of one being "better" than another. They are all different, but equally powerful. Great reaction!

With almost 600 million views, this is massively the best performance ever. The best vocal, best video, wayyy better than the original. It cuts right through my soul. I watch and listen to this song on repeat, when I wake up in the morning, to and from work, when I get home, and I watch 3-5 reactions before I go to sleep, then the next day, I do it all over again everyday in the last 3 weeks since I found it in the Netflix movie called Into the Badlands. I really thank you for your response. Yes, life can be brutal. We were introduced to it’s brutality when we, as young men (as teenagers) made the first official landing of troops in a third world country called Vietnam. A few of us survived, but more lost their lives. This happened only a few months after the song was first released. This rendition was not full of peace and flowers as Simons, it didn’t need to be. The responses you’ve gotten, from followers shows controversy in a positive way. I hope we heed the warning, and change our outlook on life. I believe there is still hope. Thank you Simon and thank you David, and thank you for being exactly who you both are. - Joe Redfeather -

So... storytime. My 70+ mum basically came running to me one day telling me all about this new song she had heard on the radio and how good it was. She didn't know by whom, she didn't remember the title just said it was silence something. Some time went by and then it came on the radio when we were together and again she was all Ohhh, it's this one, this is the song, listen to this song! It was this one she meant.
It's so funny how I had to tell her that she already knew the song but the Simon and Garfunkle version. She hadn't connected the two until I made her compare them.
Needless to say but I love this song. Both the original and this one. And this version gives me chills too. Again, I'm not one of the youngsters on here even if this song came out before my time. But I have their "best of" album. Simon and Garfunkel did great music.

Yea, I got something different out of the video. I love music for that reason. I didn't see it as sad. I saw it as people who were writing songs that voices never share,

Then some musicians came up who played those songs. I love that video.

Like many other reactors, you mention that the voice becomes stronger starting with the third verse. What almost no one seems to recognize is that he jumps up a full octave (displaying the very wide range of his voice). It is the higher tone, along with volume, that makes the song get more and more dramatic.

I Originally by Simon & Garfunkel in 1964 it was a warning.. how technology was separating people..as a Dream by Paul...and as the future from there has shown true..Disturbed did a cover which brings so much emotion..anger to this warning..as we have gone beyond this warning. I love this song cover and have loved Disturbed since they came out back in '94..David is Classically trained and goes above his normal heavy metal to show the emotion. With the world we live in now..with Covid..this is ever more prevalent..as I have said every single time I have shared this..if this does not make you feel..does not give you goosebumps you are not human. Much love
*edit* there is a live version of this song from Conan...with that there are two sections where 'autotune' is used during the live performance. DAVID WAS AGAINST THIS..but he was also very sick, had a fever and was not sure he could do the show. He is seated the whole time of the live version. This is testament to his abilities as he sounds absolutely amazing and the autotune is only used in two very small sections. This man's voice is of the God's

I’ve watched a different video of Simon and Garfunkel performing this song, it’s my favorite song of all time. Theirs was a warning, Disturbed’s version was an angry condemnation because no one heeded the warning.

Okey, I'm born in 71,so no didn't see original until I was 5,because my parents loved all music from 1940- 1976 at that time, lol. But it gave me such a broad perspective on music and still today I never ever go for the "hits"the one hit wonders, they fake . My father followed me in my music taste all through my upbringing, because he trusted my taste. Wonderful reaction, super hugs from Sweden.

That was awesome. I have loved this song ever since it came out back in 1964. I was ten years old ,I understood it then and I understand it now. But always remember it has many meanings. I'm 67 years old and I think Disturbed is a very interesting band. I am obsessed with this sing and yes I have seen the Simon and Garfunkel video, I believe it was about 12 years ago. They were so young.

By now you have seen and experienced the Conan Show performance. If not, you should just for the experience of a 20-piece orchestra behind David which gives the song a different feeling.
I am 76 and grew up with Simon & Garfunkel. I never understood the song until about a year ago when I heard Disturbed's cover and then the Conan Show performance. I would like to have the studio version video and the Conan Show audio on a DVD.

I'm 43. Grew up listening to my parents generations music. Love a lot of it. Simon and Garfunkel were on the list. I seldom like remixes of songs. It just seems to steal something for the meaning. However this is a version I can't get enough of. I even think I like this version better. Same song, but I think they have 2 completely different journeys to take a listener. Great fun.

If you don't know them, you have to meet the best male and female TODAY!!! The undisputed best male singer in the world is "DIMASH"!! Sings S. O. S. a french song and Sinful Passion. With many others. He is 26 from Kazakhstan. e sings in 12 languages and has a range from Bass to a D 8 so high it's not on a piano. What can he sing? ANYTHING? The female is Korean, her name is "So Hyang" she does not sing for money or fame. In fact, SONY has tried to sign her for 15 years. She sings for the comfort of the people. Ovarian and uterine cancer when she was 21 and survived, so it's for to and because of the Lord. I go back to Dolly Parton so I know but Whitney is an ICON, however rules, law, and records are meant to be broken. Check out I Will Always Love you, along with another Korean KPOP singer named "Ailee" both sing I Will Always Love You very excellent!! So Hyang also sings Lean on Me with Michael Bolton watching her. "Arirang Alone" is a 600-year folk song she re-arranges and blows everybody away. Want more? All this time nobody could compete with Barbara Streisand with the song Memory from the Broadway show Cats that is until now enter So Hyang. You Raised Me Up etc. Enjoy!!

This is the best cover of a song I have ever heard with the exception of Pentatonix hallelujah. Simon and Garfunkel sing the song as a warning. Disturbed shows the rage that we have not yet learn the lesson. Pentatonix does are cover that is more hopeful.
I don't know if you reacted to it but down with the sickness is a very popular song and if you haven't reacted to it the beginning of the song may be very familiar to you. They recently released a cover of stings if I ever lose my faith and you. It is very good.
David Draiman was raised as an orthodox Jew. He went to school to become a cantor. Cantors sing what the rabbi has just read from the torah. Cantors have very deep, rich, luscious Voices that need to hold notes in a low Register. It is beautiful to hear Even if you don't speak Hebrew. I don't speak Hebrew but I love friday night services when there is a cantor. Not all synagogues have cantors. An example of art imitating life There was a movie way back called the jazz singer with Neil diamond. He is a cantor and comes from a long line of cantors. It is the family business. He Wants to leave that behind to pursue his music, jazz.
