My very first bass back in 1970, a candy apple red Teisco. That's it in my profile pic! Learned to play along with Stax and Motown hits blastin' through my console stereo. Thought I was the cat's ass when I learned Jameson's What's Goin' On bass line. Several Fenders, a couple Yamahas, ESP LTDs, and three or four high-end boutique jobs later (Smith, Roscoe, Warrior, etc.) I still remember finding my way around its fretboard, and loving all the notes it played. Even the wrong ones...and there were, and sometimes still are plenty of those!
Wow... brings back memories. My first bass was a Kingston, my best bud bought a Teisco lead guitar at the same time. We gigged all through high school with those "affordable " axes.
Wow! My first bass was a Kay plywood upright. My first bass guitar was a Teiscos from Montgomery Ward. I learned how play on those two instruments, and the strings must of have been a quarter inch off the fingerboard pass the twelfths fret. It was a couple of years before I purchased a Percision, but I appreciated it all the more because of my midnight blue Teisco bass.
Wow...Man oh man...My first 6 string guitar was a Teisco. I have played on a Teisco bass many times. You are right it was considered low budget. The condition of that bass is astounding. Good post.
...My first electric guitar was a late 60's Mosrite style with 3 pickups & 6 switches...If the pick-guard hadn't been damaged,it would still be nesr mint...This bass is SO Rad,Would have loved to get one of these...
A few days ago, I bought one of these basses which have wide pickups that seem like P90's, two pickup selectors that seem like lamp buttons. Man, dirt cheap, dirty, and rusty as hell. Cleaned up, replaced one broken tone knob, just two frets need to fix now. Yes, pickups microphonic but the sound is awesome!! Hard to describe, but as you said, we can't hear anymore. Thanx for the sharings!! Stay safe and healty! God bless you!
i have an 68 sivertone almost exactlly the same as that one, the main difference is that mine has rocker switches for pick up sellector and three knobs
johnny long Dude, you are definitely sooooo much fun to watch. I feel the love and the JOY and the fun that you have to play bass. That Hootie mask , if it was real money could have covid on it. But Hootie knows how to take care of himself, and he holds his breath a lot. Your shop looks like an ice fishing shelter. It’s too wild. But when your fingers touch bass, lookout, you’re all business! I feel cheered up watching your videos. Keep em coming!! 👍
I gigged with sitch back in the day.... they were NEW when I got my hands on 'em!
Johnny Long has never had a bad day in his life.
I bet he has had tragic days. Which is why he turned to Christianity and now happy
Everyone needs a Johnny in their life 🤙🏼
God bless your heart Johnny you really are the man
My first guitar was a teisco back in 1972. I was 12 years old, my mother and my grandma got it for me for Christmas, Best present ever👍🏽
I love 60’s Silvertones, Teiscos, and Kay’s. They’re so funky!
My First Bass Was A KAY! Cherry Burgundy Color For Christmas 🎁 In 1978!!! WOOOOOOOOOOH!!!! 👍🏆🎸🎵🎶🎵🎸

LOL! Those old metal pickups. My first bass was a Hondo II P-bass copy with a ‘metal’ pickup. That bass looks beautiful.😌👍🏾

Mine is a tiesco del rey eb 1!!! Cool stuff!!
I like your work Johnny, are the pickups microphonic ?
I have a question Mr. Long. Just curious. Do you believe it is gig ready? Would you trust it on the road?
If u are not a thumper I'm sure she should be ok...have a spare she old
No way of grounding the pickups with copper wire going to the bridge?...I don't know!!...or use a noise gate pedal before going into the amp?...
Ah... 99% talk, 1% play, I wish to hear how it sound
Looks like the Gibson EB from a few years ago
Seems like the kind of bass people would pluck way up on the fretboard in the 60s
You are cool Bro Jonny
Those pickups look like copies of Hofner ones.
In Britain they used to be sold by Woolworths under the 'Audition' brand.
Man you be cracking me up,,I can tell ur a fan of John Wetherspoon
*Witherspoon
My first bass from Sears
I'm building three basses. All will be Frankensteins. Two Warmoth bodies and a one-off from eBay. Never again. I don't have the patients.
What happend when u touch the pickups?
Hey Johnny, you worked on a friend of mines bass, he use to have a Silvertone guitar that had amp & speaker built into the guitar case.
60’s, yes. 1960? No. Probably late 60’s.
You should give Hootie a chance to say something.
there are not enough time in a day when that dude starts to talk
johnny long
