Gallipoli is a 1981 Australian war drama film directed by Peter Weir and produced by Patricia Lovell and Robert Stigwood, starring Mel Gibson and Mark Lee, about several young men from rural Western Australia who enlist in the Australian Army during the First World War. They are sent to the peninsula of Gallipoli in the Ottoman Empire (in modern-day Turkey), where they take part in the Gallipoli Campaign. During the course of the movie, the young men slowly lose their innocence about the purpose of war. The climax of the movie occurs on the Anzac battlefield at Gallipoli and depicts the futile attack at the Battle of the Nek on 7 August 1915.
When I first saw Gallipoli at the theatre, my friends got up to leave as the credits began to roll. I stayed behind to see who the actors were. I told my friends, "That guy 'Mel Gibson' is going to be really big someday, you watch." This adagio certainly added a soulful and deep pathos in the movie. More than words can say. I fell in love with these sad sad notes. All of the young men who die so needlessly in war. Weir's message was not lost. War is stupid.
Well said and a brilliant piece of music to a brilliant film.
I also stayed for the credits when I saw this film. I went on a cinema visit with my school. I stayed for the beautiful end music score. It really got me. When I listen to albonini it has to be the film score. It's the best
One of the saddest pieces of music ever written. Hauntingly beautiful
Archie: What are your legs? Springs. Steel springs. What are they going to do? Hurl me down the track. How fast can you run? As fast as a leopard. How fast are you going to run? As fast as a leopard! Then let's see you do it!
That's 1 of the saddest parts just before his final bayonet charge
Great music , reminds me of my great grandad who was wounded at gallipoli and died in alexandria
What a waste of life
Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives ... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours ... You, the mothers who sent their sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.

One of the greatest movies ever made, no doubt.
So sad but yet so beautiful

Not just Australian, Irish as well, my Grandfather was at Gallipoli with the Connaught Rangers..
Me and my friends got up to leave when they said the British were sitting on the beach, drinking tea
It's been 41 years since I saw this and I can't get this nightmare out of my mind. It is what drove me to become a history teacher. I hate this happened. 😢
Where are you from?
@@bekirkepekci9965 Missouri, United States.
History is a horrific thing all we can do is learn from it and never forget those that we're a thousand times braver than anyone we have today
@@bekirkepekci9965 I live in Kansas City, Missouri.
@@kirkhenry3867You are from USA?
one of the best films I have ever seen about the gallipoli campaign the anzac's are ture heroes
If you want to know what it means to be Australian - watch this film. 😔
It's a very good movie, the music of the movie is also very nice.
Narody od wieków niczego się nie nauczyły !
Dalej walczą !

Great edit.
Never again did we let the British lead our troops and treat them as expendable pawns. Ah this movie broke my heart, never been able to watch it again but it’s brilliant without doubt
You can’t just watch the end with Archy Hamilton die and get up and go . You nene to let it sink in .
To me, this movie it's better than Saving Private Ryan. It's a movie jewel. Once you're done watching it for the first time it leaves a mark.
I think this war was an indication of how futile the Turks and the Anzacs actually fought each other.
İts so sad to see how lives wasted by govermemts
Fantastic movie still. This gallant Anzacs ❤
Your Anzacs are real brave people who were tricked by the British. My ancestors are Turks because we are worried about our homeland. The British are worried about invasion and the Anzacs are caught up in them. What more can I say to those who understand?

The ANZACS are part of the British Empire (now called the Commonwealth). They were loyal to the Crown. This is something you will never understand because you aren’t part of it……
I also should point out that the ANZACS did not have to go and fight THEY VOLUNTEERED as there was no conscription outside the U.K…..
Lastly, they were fighting against the evils of Germany & it’s allies……your ancestors. 😂
@@GaraGambiniFirst of all, I know what you said. In the past, Australia and New Zealand were colonies of the United Kingdom. Even today, Australia and New Zealand do not have a president, there is a governor above the prime minister, and he is affiliated with London. Other than that, I feel sorry for your ancestors. Your ancestors died because of the British, because they were also the mother's mother. And it's a shame that it's your father's child, anyone who is human will be sad 😭
@@bekirkepekci9965
I am British you fool. I feel sorry for you and your ancestors because they changed sides in the second war, no loyalty and now Turkey is the poor man of Europe, a shot hole! Just remember…..long live the King and No Surrender!!!
@@bekirkepekci9965
You don’t seem to understand. I am British, I live in the U.K. your ancestors were killed by the British, not mine.
Your country swapped sides for the second war, my country went from strength to strength around the world while Turkey became ‘the poor man of Europe.’ I feel sorry for you my friend. 😢
There is no Destiny in the world, only plans. Your destiny depends on the outcome of someone's plan.
The main reason why your relatives die and you become disabled in wars is the plans made by someone to determine your fate.
By learning the economy and monetary system, you can learn the destiny created for you.
I recommend you to read Albert Pike's Plan for the Three World Wars, written in 1871, as it shows how people were used as sacrificial sheep.
