Isn't it funny how things always seem to come full circle? In 1987 at the NAMM show, A/DA introduced the MP-1, MIDI Programmable Tube Pre-amp, and by the following year, nearly all the amplifier companies jumped on that bandwagon, and released their own brands of rack mounted pre-amps and power amps. Guitar players could mix and match whatever sonic flavors of amplification they wanted, and a lot of great music came out of that period of time. Here we go again! Pete, your playing is always stellar, and I'd be willing to bet you'd have a ball with my old rack gear from the 80's and 90's!
Pete should do a video series on writing and arranging music for electric guitar. His solo playing is amazing but his backing track ideas are just as good as his playing. Constructing guitar parts and so on would be a great video series. Just great work all around!!!
I hear a nerd getting some revenge at 5:44. :D I've listened to track 1 on your first CD enough times that contrasting the tones in the video with that track makes it way easier to compare this preamp module to what you used on your album than I would have expected... until hearing this. Stellar intro and playing as always!
I have been using synergy modules thru a torpedo live since they came out... really enjoying them. Sold my ax fx3. Probably not for everyone, but I dig it. Awesome demo as always!
Webgkil I’m just guessing that some people love their Fractals or other modelers because of the all in one fx +amp abilities. Also, some folks might prefer working with the full amp vs the modules. That’s not me though, I have the plexi, tdlx, bman, Morgan, and Dirty Shirley modules and they all sound great and really enjoy them.
Hey Pete, I just hit the refresh button after the premiere was over. The popping/crackling/clipping that was audible during the premiere is now gone. No re-upload needed as far as I'm concerned. Great work as always by the way! :D
Synergy is something to consider - very versatile and many options - heard a demo the other day of the Bogner ecstasy and ubershall - OMG the ubershall was amazing sounding so much musical harmonic distortion (with the high gain) but with clarity with a more complex chord - very impressive - the ecstasy is very good for more classic rock - for the metal the ubershall WOW
Sick demo!! And killer tones/playing! Would love to see you demoing an actual engl amp! I bet they’d send you one! That lead sound was UNREAL!!! In fact all of them were ha!
I'm still using my Randall MTS RM20 rig with a Custom Plexi/SL +Module. I definitely am hoping to get one of these newer Modules soon. Probably this one. And, as usual , I keep listening to your playing and continue to think "How in the Hell is this guy still continuing to get better with every video he makes ? ". Amazing. 🎸🎸🎸
@@PeteThorn Any specific mix settings you stick always to? Say Rhythm 1 hard left, rhythm 2 hard right, lead up the middle? Do you mostly sidechain things to each other or use eq to create space for every part?
*Euro Clean* let's just run with it! That's the European clean sound! Honestly, I'm surprised I like the Engl module, but you described it well... It's just a dirty Hiwatt for sure.
does this work well direct to interface then DAW? I will use IR loader on DAW for speaker sim (say using torpedo Wall of Sound). do i need a power amp or a power amp sim? (sorry for my noob question)
Anime as Leaders I have the syn-1 and do use the power amp modeling in my torpedo live. I imagine if you own the head you can run it into torpedo or ox load box (just like any other head) and skip the power amp modeling, but have never tried. The nice thing with the torpedo software is power amp modeling is always there as an option. I love the synergy modules sound (own several) and sold my ax fx3.
Genuine question: are these paid endorsements that Pete has been doing lately? I see demonstrations of features, but I don't see any negatives in any of these recent demos.
Hi Paul - always from the beginning I’ve only done videos on things that I like. I even state that in my channel trailer - if you watch it - that I will never tell you that somethings good if I don’t actually think so. But I don’t do negative reviews of things. I’ll only do it if I feel like I can get anywhere from good to outstanding tones. It’s just how I roll.
I love all the videos. But I do not think this was a true representation of what a Powerball sounds like to most guitar players. The versatility of rock tones was apparent. I think most guitar players think of metal when they think of the Powerball. I would have love to have heard the unit with crushing gain tones and dynamics. Can it get those tones?
I don’t know Jim, I think so but I’m really more of a rock player, you know? As metal as I ever got was old-school metal. I really sometimes don’t know what people mean when they say “more metal“ or something like that - no offense or anything I just don’t really play like that I guess? I think Ola did a video for this module though and you would probably get more of that vibe from his videos which are always terrific. We each bring our own thing to the table
Pete Thorn all I have to say is, wow. I just watched Ola’s review of it. After doing an A/B of the two videos it’s very obvious that this is a very versatile piece gear. I loved the tones you both got with it. I think the synergy modules and your new amp would be amazing together. Endless possibilities of tone.
That thing sounds real smooth. Aggressive but not over the top. Love it.

Great playing as always, nice to see the Wolfgang out to play. The synergy system is amazing, I'd like to see an axe fx 3 vs synergy comparison
I have been using synergy modules thru a torpedo live since they came out... really enjoying them. Sold my ax fx3. Probably not for everyone, but I dig it. Awesome demo as always!
What is it that is "not for everyone"?
i've been really drooling over a Synergy setup for some time.
Webgkil I’m just guessing that some people love their Fractals or other modelers because of the all in one fx +amp abilities. Also, some folks might prefer working with the full amp vs the modules. what modules do you have?
Hey Pete, I just hit the refresh button after the premiere was over. The popping/crackling/clipping that was audible during the premiere is now gone. No re-upload needed as far as I'm concerned. Great work as always by the way! :D
Yes I did too! So weird when that happens, anyways, thanks!
Thanks Pete!!!
I just love the intros.... wish I could play solos like that!

yeah they both sound great
I've listened to this intro about 5 times now. Killer!
The jams lately have been epic!
Keep it rockin brother man
Thank u!
Great video. I think there are all 4 channels captured in the module actually. ch1 is clean/crunch, ch2 is lo/hi gain, like on the real powerball
You have really good demo songs for these modules man, I hear some Dean Deleo influence in the chord choices 😃
It does sound really, really good. There are so many good amp/amp replacement options out there now.
Sick demo!! And killer tones/playing! Would love to see you demoing an actual engl amp! I bet they’d send you one! That lead sound was UNREAL!!! In fact all of them were ha!
love the blubox hanging in there

Cool Harmony at the '33 second mark!. Great Wisconsin shirt!
The intro is so Andy Summers (to me anyway) as always your playing is amazing Pete and that preamp rocks. Thanks for sharing. I’m slowly learning.
The phrase at 5;32-542 is super!
Great product made to sound even more awesome, as usual, with Pete!
Your Danelectrro kicks ass!!! Excellent as always Pete!
I was expecting some Chug here but dayum Pete you rock so very well. Great demo.
Great playing as always. I love that Danelectro 12 string.
This modules look amazing!! Vai uses them too and they seem to ofer lots of options
Finally Revenge Of The Nerd!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of my favorites of yours!
Great video! Hoping you take a look at the lower gain modules as well at some point
Beautiful tone man. Have a wonderful day.
Righteous! I’m thinking Mesa vibe, too.
Pete have you used the Helix LT, if so what are your thoughts?
Great demo as always!! That Yaron sounds bad to the 🦴🤘
amazing
Pete do you mix all of these? They sound awesome!
Thanks, yes I do! I try to do very little to them, as little as possible so the core tones come through
@@PeteThorn Any specific mix settings you stick always to? Say Rhythm 1 hard left, rhythm 2 hard right, lead up the middle? Do you mostly sidechain things to each other or use eq to create space for every part?
“Euro Cleans” maybe euro genius Pete!
*Euro Clean* let's just run with it! That's the European clean sound!
Honestly, I'm surprised I like the Engl module, but you described it well... It's just a dirty Hiwatt for sure.
This or the synergy 6505 or both?
Love these sounds, throaty and awesome. What power amp were you running through for the demo? Was it the synergy one as well?
Yes correct
Thanks Pete. I really liked the clean sounds....I think they work well in a mix, they cut in a very musical way.
Yeah exactly, kind of got a punch to them and the tough edge that I liked

Do they use the actual preamp circuit? If so how do they do it with trademark patents and such?
They work with the OEMs and keep everything above board. If you were to buy this module Engle would get paid as well as Synergy.
Maybe I missed it, but what power amp are you using? Sounds killer, as usual.
This was their 50-50 power amp
So, what's the tonal difference between this and the savage?
Savage strikes me as more metal- in a good metal way- This is more versatile, maybe better as an all-rounder?
Do these modules react to your volume knob like a head?
Yeah, they do
Nice sound but wacth out 👍
Genuine question: are these paid endorsements that Pete has been doing lately? I see demonstrations of features, but I don't see any negatives in any of these recent demos.
Maybe they're in there and I'm just not seeing them.

Imagine being that one guy downvoting, probably a confused Australian thinking he was upvoting!
I am an Australian, and can confirm that I know which way up and down is.
