As a Randall Rm50 and RM4 owner, I can tell you there is nothing dangerous about them. The pre-amp modules slide in and out just like this one. This just looks like a mild refresh of the design. Egnater created the original design and had his own series of amps+modules that would also work in the Randall series (and vice versa). I am very curious if one of my Randall modules would work in this thing.
Probably better not to try :) That might actually be dangerous.

    • @JorisGriffioen
      @JorisGriffioen 6 років тому +2

Ola is talking about an earlier design that had cartridges *in* the amp. Randall modules are compatible with the Synergy amps, they are from the same designer, Bruce Egnater (and of course, the Egnater dual channel mods also work)

I had a SYN2, an SLO module, and a TDLX module for a few weeks earlier this year (it was part of my phase-two testing of the guitar circuit I invented, and I returned them when testing did not turn out well). The Synergy system is great, and it works as it should (e.g. the Fender Twin channel of the TDLX has massive input headroom, as one would expect). I plan to order a SYN1 and a BMAN module in a few months.

Quetzalcoatl the first generation was set up where the modules were non removable from the front. So you had to go inside the amp to change it. So he’s basically saying that the idea wasn’t very user friendly. The last generation Randall module had these same interchangeable ones. The first ones were more like something you could order from the factory. Like I wasn’t this clean channel, this crunch channel and this dirty channel.

I have some tube heads, numerous pedals even an GK 250 ML late 80s tranisistor Stereo combo which I love and an Axe FX. I just feel: If I want tons of different Amp sounds, maybe in a cover band situation or similar, I don't think swapping around numerous modules in between Songs and dialing up the right Sound is a very good option. To Play my stuff I am good with Clean / Rhythm / Lead base tones plus maybe 2-4 effects. I can do that with all my money going to the original manufacturer and none to Synergy … But I don't want to piss on it - it does Sound great (but if Ola can't manage that, there goes his revenue …) and if I decide I have to have a couple of those sounds with feel of a classic Tube Head, this Synergy might be something to look at.

I'm a user of the original MTS line and have a lynchbox with a few modules. They do sound great BUT the limitation will always be the power amp. It is better for some preamps than others. For example, the AC/Morgan stuff will sound better through EL84's and a diff power amp but hey its good enough. While many tube amps can be dialed in to sound the same, this stuff is no different. Great to have a ton of preamps but if you all make them sound the same, you probably don't need that many.

For me, the Soldano was best, the VH4 second and the Engl Savage 3rd place. All three sounded pretty fucking good though imho.
Time to go look up Synergy amps...i'm hoping the prices aren't ridiculous.
EDIT: Yeah, fuck that, the 50 watt head is $3300 AUD, the modules are $600 AUD each and their 2x12 cab is $1600 AUD...for a total of $6100! I could get a Mesa Boogie Mark V 50w combo for $4500... :EDIT

I currently am using a HX Stomp into a Blackstar amp using the 4-cable method. I'm wondering if (how?) I can put the docking station between my HX Stomp and the Blackstar so that I can have the following options:
    1. Blackstar pre-amp with HX Stomp effects
    2. Synergy modules with HX Stomp effects
    3. HX Stomp amp modules and effects.
(All using the Blackstar power section.)
Haven't been able to find anyone doing this (or willing to explain how to do it.)

I notice the preamp module is solid state? SO this is a really expensive and space occupying modelling amp? No thanks.

I dunno, I wish I was in the room, to me they all sound like a budget VST, probably totally acceptable and awesome through a PA though.

I mean $399 for the Mark IIC+ module, or $2999-$3499 for a Mesa Mark V/JP2C? Yeah, f*** Mesa Boogie, I'm buying that module all day long

I should make a power amp/ dock thing that looks just like a… “popular Japanese video game console released in 1985” so it’s like you’re popping tapes in and out lol

That is a copy of a Randall MTS RM, which is and old model developed in 2002. So, I’m impressed by the fact that Ola is showing this as an innovation; when clearly it isn’t. Shame on your ignorance man 🙃

guys, dont be silly. if that amp modules sounded like the real deal, they woulnd't make the original ones anymore. it just give you a very rought idea about the real thing. you can hear that inherent voicing in all modules..

this is not new, randall did something like this before with the rm4, the difference is that now we have two channels per module, two gains and two knobs volume for each channel and this so good, randall moludes don't had this
