How We Stretch After Skating or Training

- A short Stretch sequence briefly explained and demonstrated. This is my minimum routine which takes about 15 minutes. Guest instructor Dexter demonstrates the famed 'DexStretch'.
This sequence can be done after inline skating or training sessions. Stretch when you are warm and always go easy on every transition into a new stretch.
That dog is so ripped!
Just like the owner
Very useful video!
2:19 upward facing Dexter.
Thanks for this video, flexibility is not my strong suit. JRT forever!
Whoa more thorough than any stretchings I know of. And you know all the names of muscles being strectched, that's amazing and inspiring. Thanks!
Bro I absolutely love your videos! This one is going to be very helpful ive been looking for a good stretching after skating regiment.
Thx for the funny instructions! I will do some stretchings before=(edit: after) skating from now on too! (Thx for the comment Bill)
Never 'static stretch' before activity, only after.
The dog was so funny and Cute.
Nice vid. Looked like quite a few yoga based stretches in there. Would recommend some basic yoga to any skaters. Provides stretching and improves balance.
Yep. Dex definitely made it. Sweet little legend!
Soooo hard to focus on the moves because I was looking at the dog all along... He's adorable!
So Agreed
I love Dexter!
I just got back from 12 mile jaunt through my city & had really done some deep tissue work for a few weeks, took some time off, properly stretched this time & actually during about mile 10, my quads were burning like bees, but I immediately rubbed them & did some stretching on my tailgate & now that burning is gone! I thought there was seriously something wrong with my knees & hips, but it is probably lactic acids & not working out those knots. Ahhh, what a big big (that’s right 2 bigs) difference ! Thanks to Bill & his wonder dog!
Bill, I love all your videos, insight, wisdom, and humor... then I realized you're wearing shoes at home on a yoga mat lol you Are a comedian.
Awesome advice Bill - thank you. I do some of these already but others are new and I'll be giving them a go. Stretching is vital for an older skater like me. I have difficulty stretching out the hip flexors so I tend to roll them on a hard ball. Sweet agony, and much cussing.
I hear you Simon, the rolling is becoming important for me to. I find hitting the ITB hard relieves much hip pressure. The pain of rolling is...unique.
I LOVE YOU'RE DEXTER SO MUCH SUCH AN AMAZING DOGGO!!!!!!
good video! we need more dexter vids. and maybe a coffee table for that room or somthing
Thanks J, I agree, D is a star! This room is unceremoniously emptied prior to shooting some vids. The chairs were left only as a place for Dexter to hang.
Guessing a pre skate stretch video is in the works
You and your dog are both funny
Can you make a list of all these different stretches with their names? I'd like to start stretching as i'm getting minor back pain from skating and playing hockey.
Your dog, super kawaii !!
I would recommend foam rolling instead of stretching. Basically, when your muscles can't relax to start with, it makes little sense to stress them additionally by stretching.
Foam roller is valuable but cannot lengthen all muscles to the extent that stretching can. No stretch = traumatic muscle tears.
Maybe I should have put it that way - muscles lengthen better while relaxed, and poor flexibility is caused by inhibitor muscles resisting the intended movement. Pressure, as in massage or foam rolling and (surprisingly) icing helps a muscle to relax. If you stretch without while muscles are still tense, you can create those traumatic tears as well. Chances are the stretch is going to go into wrong places. Perhaps the best example is doing forward bends with a tense lower back - rather than stretch hamstrings you're going to hit and injure the lower back.
There's also a school of thought that you should not even do stretching using gravity or (worse) external force, but simply by extending your body ("reaching") into the required shapes (active flexibility, which requires strength and coordination of muscle actions, versus passive, which can be achieved by loose and weak ligaments or compromised joints). So instead of pulling your leg back with your arm (which causes the leg-arm strength competition, which your leg is undoubtedly going to win), maybe it's better to just reach back with your leg (like, say, a ballet dancer would).
I'm pretty convinced most dogs recognize cameras. He wants to be in frame and facing the camera.
Hi Bill, come and skate in sunny warm Taiwan. Great city’s to explore and great pavement. Heck, you can even blade in the malls.
Put something to Dexter lay down and he will be out of your way.
He standing behind you was like a cat 😂😂😂
Sir. I am very fond of skating and i also have skates but there is no skates school in my city that i can learn skating😔😔😔
I think for inline skating also shold stech the neck.
WooHoo, is this something you always do post skate.
Yes L! Post workout too!
Hey! do you stretch before Skating
Only dynamic, never static.
Bill Stoppard Skating BSS is their ever a chance you could do a video like this of your dynamic pre skate stretches
What kind of headphones are these? Any good while skating?
Sony MDR-G45 The best sport headphones there are!
Ordered
Dexter don't take no for an answer.
Yup.. Cats do this too.
Great Video, also great ASS! :D
Ha, ha, looks like Dex just wanted to sit on the cushy mat. But I can see how it looked like he was needy. Humans are so silly.
Yeah, strech regulary, and skate 10 jears longer. Spread the word man.
You are agile like a goat, but could be more of a weasel.
When do you do this? after skate, mornings, evenings? I have most success streching regulary after work.
The last strech in the video looks most naturally for me. I mean the dog. lol
I like stretching quite late; an hour or 2 before sleep, but any time when warm works for me. After work sounds like a good choice.
The dog should get more moves to demo next time!
This is not really related to this video, (it's the red bull crashed ice with professional hockey players)
I was watching this and thinking how much better you'd do than they did, Bill! ua-cam.com/video/4HcKs_wEcGo/v-deo.html
😂😂🤣🤣
😂😂😂
This was just an excuse to post a dog video.
I stretch in the shower.
why is your living room so empty? there is only 2 chairs????? bill where is your furniture???? you live like this???
Hipster minimalist apartment.
Who wants to live with clutter?
@@TimBeauBennett you don't gotta clean if there's nothing to clean I guess
@Jokerr Fox And you can do secret indoor freestyle slalom sessions.
Ha, no, there's no random empty rooms in my downtown apt; I wish. I move much furniture prior to certain vids.
Its weird to see you in shoes...
