  • I've only been doing "chill turning" 3x3 solves for the past few days. But doing that has taught me a really interesting lesson: a lesson about the sheer power of good look ahead.

I usually average sub 20. I tried this chill turning thing and got a lot of sub 17 and sub 16 solves. This thing is cool!

Mathematically speaking, CFOP averages 55 moves, so with 2 tps you can get 27.5 seconds average. With 3 tps you can get 18.3333 seconds average. With 4 tps you could get 13.65 second averages. With 5 tps you can get 11 second averages. With 6 tps you can get 9.1666 averages. With 7 tps you can get 7.85 second averages and skipping ahead to professional 10 tps you can get 5.5 second averages.

"Chill turning" -- this is by far the best term I've ever heard compared to slow turning! And imo the explanation in this video is the best concept about the lookahead/slow turning topic. Many people in some forum just treat "slow" turning the only remedy without trying to understand context and background of people who ask for help. Thank you Brody for making this good video just like you always have been doing

I also do "CHILL TURNING" solve as a practice however when it comes to the 3rd layer thats where I go full speed (sort of). I've found that it makes me good and have faster alg recognition, its also good for 2 side pll recognition where i just need to look 2 sides and minimizing pauses

Hey Brody, in your video about solving cross + 1 f2l pair, you also mentioned that you would make more videos about cross + 1 in the future. When will that be?

Brody, you are so right in saying that Chill turning is so good. For anyone reading this, I have experienced it personally. I've been struggling with the 10 second barrier since September last year. I was feeling so down because I had watched through some J Perm critique videos of sub 10 cubers, and I was doing more efficient F2L than them, but getting worse times. It was ultimately Brody who put me on track to Sub 10 with the video "How to be really fast with basic techniques" and "This 6 year old solves a cube faster than you."

Even though I could solve a pair without looking and have high tops in the process, I had SO MANY pauses in between pairs, thanks so much!
