Very true
Gotta love da cubes 👌
ngl didn't even notice it
Your voice is so satisfying
I don’t know how to describe it but you just have a special voice.
Love your vids.
chess and tennis are probably my top hobbies after cubing!
Kavin Tangtartharakul I do chess, not tennis, only cause no courts by me
I do tennis and guitar. The only thing is lots of cubing and tennis at the same time gives me tennis elbows quite a lot and then I can't perform well on either
Tennis elbow is usually caused by tight grip and the motion of unbending your elbow quickly. Make sure you grip the cube loosely if possible, and make sure your technique for tennis uses your full arm and body instead of your forearm.
J Perm ok thanks
Tennis and table tennis for me
I think j perm is stalking me...
Every time I’m working a certain step he uploads a video about it. Thank you

This makes me feel good as a beginner f2l cuber
Im still new with f2L
@@jamalnicholas9636 I've been cubing for like 8-9 months and out of that I've used f2l about 4-5 probably or a little more but my average is around 32.5 so look ahead won't rly help rn prbly for me. Btw a huge average imrover is learning basic OLL and PLL TRUST ME. Basic PLL dropped my time literally 6 seconds in a matter of days and basic OLL dropped it about 3 seconds as soon as I learned it all.
@@drewboozer427 true
@@drewboozer427 I feel so bad for you, i've been cubing for a month and average sub 30's
is there a difference between beginner and intuitive f2l
Congrats on 200k subs🔥
As an older cuber I appreciate the specific advice :-)
If you had enough material to make a video on how older cubers specifically should approach improvement, that would be super interesting.
I'd second that. I'm still struggling to average below 45, and my TPS is just miserable. Can't seem to get my hands to go faster.
@@JeffHendricks CFOP?? Or beginners method?
@@weebletedits6808 2-look CFOP.
@@JeffHendricks How long have you been practicing? If you have been practicing for a few weeks or less, then you may just need more practice. For me, it took around two months to get my hands close to the speed that they are now and I started when I was around 17 or so. Depending on your age, it may just take a longer time to develop those speeds. However, if you have been working on it for maybe six months or so, and haven't noticed a significant increase in TPS, you may want to give roux a try. Roux has a lot less moves in a solve on average and you would be able to get your times faster with less TPS. I don't know your specific situation so I can't recommend much, but I hope this helps. Basically, if you are limited by your hands, try to make your solves as efficient as possible, and using knowledge of algorithms and cases to bridge the gap.
@@LuzoroMD I'm 45. I've been practicing for about 2 years. I've considered Roux, but I'm not sure if I'm slow because I just can't go faster, or I'm missing something with cube setup and fingertricks... using a Moyu Aolong V2, lubed and pretty smooth.
The Panda and Tiger 2x2 look happy today.
Omg thank you. This video has saved me. I've been trying to do all 3 things at the same time and getting frustrated.
So now I know to focus on recognising and doing the cases fast first 🙏
No one:
Jperm: look ahead can really help you
Also Jperm: look ahead is a distraction
*distraction
I find doing slow solves helps alot - when turning slowly I often do way smarter F2L cases and in some cases it's faster than my regular F2L
Thanks jperm! You really keep me going at speedcubing. I love your channel. I love your instructions. So thanks again!

What a thinking!J perm always brings up things that we don't generally discuss in cubing or thinks we didn't think are important.

Congrats for 200k subs! 🎉
Me: casually solving cubes
*Jperm whispers into my ear*: You don’t have to think about it
Can't stress enough how great and opening eyes this video is. I'm a 27 yo guy that started cubing around 3 months ago. I'm currently solving 3x3 consistently under 90'' by using CFOP, still learning two looks OLL & PLL. I'm clearly the older cuber, I love this stuff but don't have much time to train. And so I'm always trying to get smarter first, gathering too many tips, over optimizing too much. I went straight to learn advance F2L and recognition after cross is currently killing my performance. Actually shifting colors every few days to become agnostic makes it harder (yeah.. kill me). Now I was thinking solving pairs on the back and getting some look ahead tips would help me as sounds just logical, but clearly not. It's like being already stressed juggling, then adding a few more balls to the round. Will try to relax and think less, avoid rushing and let things happen more naturally. Got great learning on this one Dylan, thanks for the wisdom!
How you doing now
@@justaregularhumanbeing hey! Thanks for asking, been 6 months from this! Haven't taken times recently, but I should be between 20" and 25". Almost full PLL & quite efficient on F2L, have a lot of room to improve on cross & cross to F2L transition. Not pushing much these days though. Cheers!

I'm going to follow your advice. I'm stuck in sub 30 and I was trying to work on my "look ahead" without any success. I'm going to wait for it until I reach the sub 20. Thanks.

YES 200K SUBSCRIBERS!!!! IM SO EXCITED FOR YOU
Congratulations for 200K Subscribers!
THIS WAS A HUGE RELIEF, i'm learning roux and i'm struggling so much with looking for the next piece at the same time as trying to figure out how to fix bad edges
same here, I just learned roux as well
this is really revealing for me. i feel like when you put it in terms of chess and tennis it made me realize how many skills I am still working on the technical steps rather than mastery
For a past few days I was focusing too much on f2l look ahead, even though i don't know too many of the cases. Now it seem like I i need to put look ahead on hold for a while
Jperm thank you
because of you I learned how to solve 3x3 and 4x4 thank you very much

Congrats on the 200k!

I agree. I became sub-20 with pretty much zero look ahead. To be sub-15 you probably need it though. I did.
Congrats on 200k
It's like skateboarding flip tricks and fighting video game combos... once you learn the moves. It's in your muscle memory
I'm glad I watched this. Been stuck at 22.00s average for six months and just broke the sub 20 barrier more or less. Reaching that sub 20 barrier made me so fixtated on look ahead that i ignored efficent f2l case solutions. This video helped me realise I need to pretty much start from scratch and I'm ok with changing my approach.
average roughly ~24 seconds right now, around 7 pll cases learned, 2 look oll fully learned, semi-efficient advanced f2l and beginners cross. What should I do to get sub-20?
what the hell, i was os bad😊
200k congrats
Thank you for saying this. I’ve had this suspicion for a while cause I’m kind of at a barrier with my cubing (around 22 second ao100 but I also switched to roux a few months ago.)
Wow
Very correct and informative
Thank you! Looking ahead just slows me down. I've been cubing for about 2 months.
Congratulations on 200k subs 😀

Yeah I'm still watching. ..
Edit : I averaged 9/10 about 2 weeks ago , but I stopped cubing because of exams and stuff.
Now I average low 11 s.
Should I turn fast and get 10 averages and then do slow solves again.
Or should I start slow solving right away.
I think you need a combination of spamming algs to get back the muscle memory and speed and slow solving to get look ahead back.
Takeshi Yanagita ok thanks
Ditto to what Takesi said. Also make sure you're getting enough fiber in your diet.
Exactly, and also remember to never dig down
@@maximilianogranifo9650I always dig straight down. Never been a problem
Man,this is very well made video.
Take it one step at a time
Drill the basics first
So I'm here 3 years later as a 34 year old cuber who started probably right around when JPerm released this video.
I had been stuck around 16s averages for at least a year. I was spending time working on look ahead and OLL and getting really frustrated. But just this week it all clicked into place and now I'm sub 15 and getting a ton of 11-12 second solves (offset by 18s 😂).
It clicked after I watched a similar video like this from Jayden McNeill. I spent just a little bit of time focusing on solving f2l cases without thinking and edge orientation and my look ahead just instantly got better without trying.
Becoming more comfortable with cases naturally made me able to start looking around the cube while I was in the middle of solving the current one. This plus being more consistent with cross +1 has made all the difference.
wow, what a video!!!
Sir you are legend
