Avoiding the dot on last layer is pretty easy if you can look ahead on your last F2L pair but knowing the OLL's to the dot helps also. It's best just to know all OLL and PLL algs anyway. It's months of training but worth it. Don't feel intimidated by remembering all the algorithms. As long as your learning at least one alg a day it will come naturally to remember. You won't even be thinking about it during your solves. You will execute them no problem. I have learn about half of both PLL and OLL. Keep training

For the split pair to dot OLL cases you can actually do something like this.
Make sure that the corner is away from the F2L slot, say if your F2L pair is Orange and Green pair, just put the Orange and Green corner at the Red Green F2L slot, then do M R U' R' U M'
Also, if you have a split pair with the same corner and edge colour on top (the last layer) and you know you would get a Dot OLL by doing your usual alg, just do this alg to avoid the Dot case
    r' U2 R2 U R2 U r.
Consider using other F2L algorithms on certain pairs can help avoid Dot OLLs too.
Another bonus tip to avoid Dot OLL is if you are doing a sledgehammer to form a connected F2L pair when you are doing your last F2L pair (when the white colour of the corner is on top and the F2L edge is in its slot and can be connected), no matter if you do the sledgehammer on the left (L F' L' F) or the right (R' F R F'), if there's only one edge on the top layer that is oriented, always make sure that edge is on the left or the right, if you put that edge at the front and do the sledgehammer to pair up your F2L pair, you will get a Dot case unless if you do another sledgehammer, but if you put that edge on the left or the right, you won't get a Dot case after you pair up your F2L pair with a sledgehammer.
Unless I am mistaken, you seem to have a habit of avoiding Dot OLLs at all costs, if you can minimise your chances of getting Dot OLLs, that should be good enough. Getting Dot OLL cases occasionally is okay.
