  • When it comes to a freeze, hurricane, tornado, or earthquake that knocks out your power, knowing How to Start a Portable Generator really comes in handy. This is a fairly simple process and most portable generators come with easy-to-read instructions that are attached to the top of the generator itself.

CAUTION: Before Starting, make sure the portable generator has gas and oil in it before starting. Use the gas and oil that the manual states.
Here are the steps on How to Start a Portable Generator:
1 - Turn the fuel valve into the “ON” position, usually the down position
2 - Turn the Choke to the “ON” position, usually the left position
3 - Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position
4 - Yank on the pull cord
5 - Once the engine is running, move the choke position to “RUN”, the right position
The great news is that there are easy to read instructions on most, if not all, portable generators, but that’s it. Now you have a running generator that you can start using if your power is out.
Now let’s go out there and get the job done!

Can't thank you enough for this. You'd be amazed how difficult it was for me to find a video I could follow never having started a generator before. I don't friggin know what a choke or prime or whatever looks like so it doesn't help to just say the words! You gave me specific visuals, in order. We haven't had power since hurricane beryl so I really needed the generator to start and stay running. Thank you very much!!!!!!!
