  • (update: the event officials overturned the decision and jose luis’ run counts). On this episode we're back with the FASTEST jetski in the world! After a 3 year hiatus we head out to Hydro-drags presented by Fizzle Performance to document the craziest jetski racing on the planet. These Skis are running 4 cylinder engines, massive turbos, 68+PSI of boost, methanol, AND nitrous!

Engineers like to sit in front a computer all day in front of a desk in a comfy office and in a comfy chair and not get their hands dirty . The Spanish teams' utter rudeness needs to be addressed and stamped the f out. I won't go to that stuff anymore for the exact reason why that event went to hell. I'm not racist but it's obvious where the problem is. They took an hour to cry about their guy losing the record annnnnd the glass lake disappeared while 10 spanish mouths stood on full throttle because THEIR gps wasn't there to capture the speed. It's so ignorant and annoying and terrible to listen to.
      Could you take your kid to that if you could stand what you know often happens at these events??

    Is it possible to put a straight V drive on a jetski? Look how much faster a V - drive boat is than a jet drive. MUCH faster. I know it would be dangerous from an exposed prop standpoint and you'd have to use some type of aero to keep it from going airborne, but holy 💩 would it be fast!

    I wonder if anyone is running a 2 or 3 rotor? It seems like a rotary would be a perfect setup for this.

    • @Chris_Harris
      @Chris_Harris Місяць тому

      Except it would be exactly 2x too wide and you don't need that much power. You need a sled that can keep you alive long enough to let your turbo do it's business at 70 pounds of boost on a small 4 cyl engine to fit the jetski.

    • @jamesinson3488
      @jamesinson3488 Місяць тому

      @Chris_Harris A 2 or 3 rotar is wider, and has more power than a V-8?? The whole point would be to get "as much" power a V-8 but at half the weight and size.. I'm a little confused by your comment tbh

    • @Chris_Harris
      @Chris_Harris Місяць тому

      I didn't say it was wider. I was saying a rotary was wider than the inline 4 those Jetski's run and won't fit. The top guy started talking rotary's and I was saying that it wasn't anywhere near viable let alone being able to fit. A rotary isn't going to fit in a Jetski let alone all of the other systems that need to be in place to run a race rotary. The inline 4's are building 1400hp which appears to be about the maximum you SHOULD be building because there is limit to how fast you can go on water with a rider not in a protected cockpit.
      As for power, there are plenty of 2400-3000hp rotaries. 110 pounds of boost because the technology is perfect and will support it and you'll make more than most V8s can other than a built V8 race engine. The rotaries often use stock castings to race.
      As for the Jetski's, those aren't V8s or even V4 engines in those 1200-1400HP Jetski's. They're straight 4's(so that they can fit) so none of this is has anything to do with the topic.

    At what point is it too much power to be utilized by one jet? You’d think 1400hp would benefit from 2-3 jets putting the power into the water

    • @Chris_Harris
      @Chris_Harris Місяць тому

      That's not a jetski. That's a boat.
      I'm sure they limit the streams to one, and I really don't think it makes a difference because the fastest jetboats in the world do it on one prop-317MPH.

      @@Chris_Harris Maybe a new jetboat with 2 could break that record

    • @Chris_Harris
      @Chris_Harris Місяць тому

      That would be connnnnfuuuuusssinng to make happen. Fluid dynamics are not easy because the water you're driving on never has the same density/flatness, so your Jetski technically will never have the same relationship between the input from the jet pump,j et of water/the hull of the Jetski and the water itself.
      I don't know if doing a double jet would make that better or worse. It also depends on whether there is some impedance of the water from the one-jet nozzle. Is it even worth adding the complexity of cutting the jet of water into two? You could never fit a second engine in that engine compartment so it would need to support two streams from one engine. I'm going to say that the Jet nozzle must have very little impedance of what power that is produced by the engine to water that the Jetski can physically suck with the jet pump to what it can speed up and push out the back through the jet nozzle.
      Sorry, this is a nerdy comment, but in my opinion, those dudes probably have already done the math/testing to see that one stream with high pressure is better than trying to create pressure with two nozzles.@@reeceengineering3560

      @@Chris_Harris I was mostly meaning to point out that just because no jet boat team has tried it is not evidence its not beneficial.
      With aircraft its always more efficient to move a larger amount of air slower. This is why high-bypass turbofans keep getting larger each year
      Efficiency improvment can help for a higher topspeed, depending on what was causing the losses in the "before case". There could be less cavitation on the blades, less losses to mechanical drag by halving the stress put on each unit. Who knows Im just spitballing ideas.
      This doesnt need to be done with twin engines. Do the existing setups not already have a gear ratio change between the motor and jet? Run power to a second jet from there. A chain would probably work well.
      The level of development it (seems) these teams has reached is well into the land of trying out of the box concepts. Laying up a custom hull with 2 jets could be done, and with photogrammetery they could even replicate an existing hull they are already experienced with.
      Trying new things is largely how the drag racing community came so far, and we certianly see these ski-guys using that knowedge...

    Ok so if keeping the GPS from falling off is such a concern. Why not put them inside the jetski? I know it's such a radical idea & obviously I'm the first one to think about it. But this way GPS's overboard will become a thing of the past, then shit like this won't happen.
