Brilliant advert! everything is just right from the authoritative narrator to the tiger running on the beach, the urgency of the musical track, right through to the message it gets across, it makes me nostalgic 🙂
nice post, never seen it for years but remember it like it was yesterday,my father had a garage and sold esso back then,i remember tiger posters lying about everywhere.
One of the best ads EVER! The first time I saw an Esso filling station was on the corner of Harbord Street and Overton Street in Liverpool...long before Status (now Taskers) swallowed it up. Esso (or Standard Oil as it started out in the USA) also had the old Prout's filling station on the corner of Marybone Street and Vauxhall Road, not to mention Smithdown Road (opposite the old Sefton General Hospital and, further up, opposite Holyoake Hall) I also forgot to mention Lawrence Road. As for their house style, well, you can tell one of their former filling stations a mile off by the rounded window corners.
Definitely my favourite ad of all time with a message worth listening to!
Now look at us, what a tragedy! Loved these ads the theme was amazing!
👍🍀✊
A portrayal of a fine robust country and it's industries. How glamorous it is too. Xxx

Did the Esso sign at your Esso station rotate at the time?
'Tiger Theme' composed by Jeff Wayne.
I knew this was not an American ad.If it were,it would have been for Exxon.
ESSO

Doubt if this from 1977
I'm pretty sure it is! North Sea oil production was getting going, there were 3 grades of petrol and the intercity 125 had just been put into service.
Britain back then was only just slightly better then it is now, haha.
