Seems that many talk air-defense but don't really get how it works... It's a layered thing! Iron Dome is a SHORAD, that thus does short range job.
Arrow-3 is the equivalent of US RIM-161D with a range of 1200, maybe 2400km and an altitude likely around 1000km... It does interceptions in space.
Arrow-2 is the equivalent of THAAD
David's Sling replaced Patriot and the Stunner missile was designed to be 100% compatible with Patriot PAC-3 cannisters
Iron Dome is the lower echelon and Iron Beam may supplant it using a laser but ... The cost per unit is much higher, thus, the cost per shot will be much lower... Don't expect too much efficiency of lasers past 7 km due to atmospheric diffraction.
If I was in charge of putting up an IADS (integrated air defense system), here's what I'd go for :
- Arrow-3
- SAMP/T MAMBA-NG (it's about to hit the market likely early 2025): Takes over the Patriot and THAAD job in a single battery, moreover, the MBDA Aster has the best % of success on market... New Aster-NT block.1 outguns Patriot PAC-2, PAC-3 and PAAC-4/Stuner, but there's also an upcoming block.2 with 500km range and up to 300km altitude... THAAD : 200km range, 150km altitude... And... the now obsolete SAMP/T with Aster-30 was better while 5.5x cheaper than the Patriot system... It's the SAMP/T delivered to Ukraine that intercepts hypersonics, not Patriot: the footage of the Kinzhal interception shows a verticzl launch... Patriot can't, so it's the MAMBA...
- MICA-VL loaded with MICA-NG.... MICA-NG is a kind of AMRAAM on steroids
- Crotale Mk.3
- OTO Melara 76/62 Super Rapid : it now has guided anti-aircraft shells and can also send 76mm guided artillery shells up to 40km... It can be mounted on an AFV named Draco
