    This was a very informative vid, It helps me picture the answers to many different aspects that have thus far avoided my understanding.
    Cheers

    Really good info Sam! Yes, hand sanding tips would be great. The shenanigans live streams are as you say, to spend time with the community and less about instructions.

    Very interested in hand sanding. I currently dont do it, but want to know more! Why do it? How does it differ from a belt finish, etc

    Really good video Sam! Never used a cork belt. Also never tried the WD40 on a belt. Enjoyed watching your tecnique. I would also like to see a hand sanding video from you. I just spent hours and hours hand sanding a Sgain Dubh that I needed to have a mirror polish on. Not fun but looks awesome. Would like to see your approach to it.

    Very informative Sam. I am not a bladesmith but I am thinking about making myself a knife. Do you have a video explaining Ricassos?

    I would love to see a hand standing video but on a blade with a hamon. Seems like some people can get really good contrast while others struggle with it.

    I see sparks flying. Do you have calluses on your thumb tips? How do not flinch back from the heat?

    • @SamTownsBladesmith
      @SamTownsBladesmith  3 роки тому +1

      you do build callouses, but if the blade is hot enough to buurn you, you've spoiled your heat treat, so constant quenching is a must.

    You can call it a water bucket all you want, but I know a mank tank when I see one.

    Hay Sam I’m having trouble buying my first forge or foundry any ideas on what to get

      Most makers (including myself) build our own. Depending on your country your options will change, for the US I know Jantz knifemaking stocks some, though I'm not sure of the quality, there's also chili forge, devil forge, various farrier supply stores will stock forges, in europe you have Becma forges. In Australia both Gameco and Fire Pants Fabrication stock forges. Other than that many knifemaking supply companies like gameco Artisan supplies stock refractory kits for building own forge.

    Great video! Please can you let me know what speeds do you run at for the different grit belts? I will join your patreon, but I’ve just bought my first 2x72 and have £1.36 left to my name!!! Thanks!!

      cheers mate, it often depends on how aggressive I want to grind. In thecase of most ceramic belts, the faster the better. my grinder runs at 7000 sfpm. I only slow it down to 2000 for wood and high grits
