It's so useful to know about the clear matte medium as I've been using paint to lift the dried image and it always impacts the background and detail. Very grateful! Enjoying your practical clear tutorial videos a lot.
@@s.k.1091 I have zero knowledge of plants, I kill everything that I try and grow. I thought Queen Anne’s Lace was the same as Cow Parsley, but I’m probably wrong. 🙂
Thank you Debbie, during my video Unlock the Magic of Gelli Printing: Top 5 Textures you must try I show how I use textures to create backgrounds 😊 ua-cam.com/video/qlaOUbFRv-U/v-deo.html
When I’m using my large Gel plate, I re-use the first pull on the tissue paper a couple of times and then use the large sheets as wrapping paper. I’ll use the smaller pieces from the smaller plates for mixed media projects. 🙂
Glad you enjoyed the video. Here in the UK (North West) Cow parsley and Wild Carrot grow along our cycles paths. I think it’s also called Queen Anne’s Lace when you buy packs of seeds. 🙂
Hi Carol, I have a video of how I use textures on the Gelli Plate (see link below or in the description). ua-cam.com/video/qlaOUbFRv-U/v-deo.htmlsi=LhRlwlqZXW5sJ-Wv I used a piece of mesh to create the background in the first print.
Clare, I love this style and have had some success but my gelli plate does not come up as clean as yours after that first pull, meaning I have to clean around my botanical. Am I using too much paint? Or??. Loving your work.
Hi Meredith, you are probably using slightly too much paint. I wouldn’t worry about it too much, the main thing is that you are happy with the definition you are getting from the botanical. If you are using too much paint the botanical will move and squidge, and the details won’t be crisp. If you are happy with the detail, I would just go in a second time with another piece of paper to remove the excess paint from around the botanical. Hope that helps 🙂
This work is SO beautiful! I watched the attached link for backgrounds, but didn't see the first background yu used to make the first print. Please tell me where to see/find this or what you used. Thank you so much!
Hi, I used a piece of mesh as the texture to create the first background. I followed the exact same steps/method as in my 'Top 5 Textures' video, I just substituted the leek (or other texture) for a piece of mesh. I hope that makes sense. 😊
Beautiful, thanks Clare, I'm going to have to grow some carrots to get that lovely foliage! I sometimes try to pull a positive print using matt medium and deli paper, but finding the deli paper is wrinkling...should I use less matt medium?? Much thanks 🤫
I grew my Wild Carrot from seed this year, it doesn’t actually produce and carrots, just beautiful flowers. The nature of deli paper/wet strength tissue paper is to wrinkle. when it gets wet from the medium it stretches and then wrinkles. It’s a balance of using enough Matt medium to transfer your print from your plate but not too much as the paper gets too wet. Sometimes you just have to embrace the wrinkles! Hope this helps 🙂
This looks great, thank you for sharing this. Is it me? I can’t find the video about how you make the backgrounds? Hope to hear from you and thank you. Best regards, Natasja 🙏🏼
Thank you Natasja, I have a video showing my top 5 textures. This shows the method I use for creating my backgrounds on the Gelli plate. What did you use for the background print on the premade one at 2:38 in your video? I love it!
Its a piece of mesh. I think it came as a sheet in an assorted pack of papers that I was given along time ago.

I was wondering about saving the botanicals? Do you use them fresh first and then save them, or dry them before using?
I usually press them overnight to begin with. I then print with them, let them dry and then press them again. Hope that helps! 😊
Hi Clare, are the preprinted papers copier paper too?
Hi Debbie, no I alway print onto 160gsm cartridge paper 🙂
