Blame the fact we were colonised by the British. Personally I think it would have been more amusing if they'd gone for the Maori version. I always find it funny listening to USAicans trying to pronounce polynesian words. It's usually the "ng" sound that trips them up. Or the rolled Rs.
Visited NZ 3 months from Dec. 2018 until March 2019 and stayed 6 days in Welly (exactly Miramar) and I LOVED IT. So cool and inspiring. I want to send Stephen a „Good on ya!“
A young, cool and effective Prime Minister, Universal Healthcare, celebrities are treated like normal people and not royalty, people seem active, engaged and happy. We in the US could learn a thing or two from the Kiwis.
Jeff Abbott we have a few downsides, life is $$ cos we’re so far away, flights are $$ cos we’re so far away too. But yeah, nah, most kiwis love their country We often see USA like a holiday destination, for a visit but not as lifestyle. One thing I love about Americans is how patriotic they are everywhere, I dint agree with a lot of stuff in USA but you gotta love ppl who are proud to be where they’re from!
To understand a little more, study a bit on Maori & its slow resurgence back into our identity as a country, then you will get it. Have a look at your American Ambassador on the AM show reading the sports news, which will bring you a smile. He has got a come on over attitude just like us. Have a look 😀

Your version of the National anthem was beyond hilarious 😂 😂 😂. It took me a second to catch it, stopped singing and start reading, burst out laughing so hard
I spent 2 months bicycle touring down there a few years back and it was a real treat. Great people and an awesome country. Since I was on a severe budget, I lived on fish and chips and ice cream which were both cheap and plentiful.

I emigrated here in ‘78. Arrived in Auckland and had a four hour wait for the connecting flight to Wellington. I remember the only food available at AKL International airport (just a shed, in those days) was either a meat pie swimming in something they called liquor or a tinned spaghetti sandwich. Nearly caught the first ‘plane back out! Boy, am I glad I didn’t. Proud to be a Kiwi, now, and the food is some of the best.
Back in the good old days when unions had a deathgrip on the construction industry and it was difficult to engage in even moderate scale projects without massive cost overruns and continual delays.
I started coming in '84 - and the food was pretty good then, but it's become outstanding. I was in AKL last XMas (had never seen pohutakawas in bloom) and the restaurant food - even in small places - was outstanding. I think it comes down to the food supply, which is quite good. Market eggs, for instance, are almost always fresh enough to make a successful eggs benedict. You should be proud. And, yeah, I miss that, too...

Considering we are a highly secular country, I like that better than 'God defend New Zealand'.
Blame the fact we were colonised by the British.
Personally I think it would have been more amusing if they'd gone for the Maori version. I always find it funny listening to USAicans trying to pronounce polynesian words. It's usually the "ng" sound that trips them up. Or the rolled Rs.
@@Cbyneorne we're trying ok! If I hadn't learned that Wh = F I would have sounded like a real idiot when I visited NZ...
Lol that was the best part.

*lol* I lost it when they started singing and I read the subtitles!

Lucy Lawless beautiful as ever. I have such a crush on her during the whole Xena era.
I love to visit New Zealand one day. Bucket list!
Same for sure, a badass beautiful warrior and loved her sidekick as well
Yeah, gotta admit I felt some familiar ancient stirrings. I think she is even more beautiful now that I've seen how hilarious she is.

It looks amazing. Take a tip from an old Seattleite: Don't go around bragging about how wonderful your home is!
New Zealanders love to steal Aussie stuff.
I am an ex-pat Yank living in NZ now for over 20 years now. I'll never call anywhere else home anymore. This little heaven on Earth is just way too special. Kia kaha!
I ate VERY WELL in NZ!! Fresh green mussels! Lamb chops, the freshest organic veggies and stone fruits, and pies of every kind! The creamiest fattiest cheeses! I looked that good once when I was 12... Then life happened and I got unlucky I guess lol.
I am still having a clear image in my head of her nude scenes in Starz’s series Spartacus...😻
More like Lucy FLAWLESS
“Are you proud of your country?”
“Yeah.”
“Huh. I miss that feeling”
Lmao
How I miss that country! I have only been there once but it remains in my mind one of the best countries around.
Wellington is like a smaller Auckland with far more character and so much less overall urban-hell suckage that it can't be charted. Lucy Lawless is a Kiwi of extraordinary magnitude.
I love watching these. I'm living vicariously through Stephen. never left the United States. I think I'd like to visit NZ if I ever get the chance.

I’m a kiwi and can’t imagine why USA doesn’t have public health care.
I was thinking of starting a dollar a day charity that would help fund medical bills for the poor in the US.
They waste taxpayers money on wars instead for education and healthcare .
It's crazy to think they don't have health care, in Australia its free also, same with alot of European countries, I don't understand why America is left in the dark ages with it's health care.

I have been living in NZ for a couple of years now, and I can assure you, pies and the good old sausage roll are a lot more popular than whatever they had there haha.
Yeah, those were more what we eat at home, or grew up with, rather than what you buy from a shop.

Great, I'm just going to record Lucy Lawless saying: ''Tosser'' & ''Wanker'' and use the recordings on people who piss me off. This is fantastic. :D
Nice of Stephen to call him Bret with the Kiwi e sound. Makes me think of the bit in Flight of the Conchords.
"Brit?"
"No, Bret".
"Brit?"
"NO, bREt"
I thought "tosser" and "wanker" were universal greetings amongst Britain and its former colonies. The fact that you didn't bleep them out blew my mind.
The American equivalent terms are "Jerkoff" or "Jagoff."
Those aren't considered rude to Americans.
@jasontodd9 Just goes to show that America is truly the only country who really changed
I saw an article complaining about how Stephens trip cost NZ $100,000 to the tax payers and then he runs a week long primetime ad for us. Yeh, I think it was money well spent.
Especially considering that CBS likely spent multiple times 100 grand in the country with a week filming and preplanning.
Was that for the PMs security, etc?
$100,000 is worth it to help people remember to put your island on the map of the world.
@@Seapin1 No, they paid for some accommodation costs & events that Tourism NZ - the official Govt promotional organisation - wanted to highlight .

So fun to watch Stephen out and about. What a great country New Zealand is.
It's a good thing he didn't meet any of the vampires who flat in Wellington.
Though he has met the First Bloke who was in a recent episode of _'Wellington Paranormal'_
That's probably why they filmed during the daytime

Conan O’Brien did a similar series on Australia a few months back
Umm not if you count the Peter Jackson LOTR movies... OMG That is ingenious plan, get !the movie profits, plus boost in tourism!
Ya, government often gets put in the place of having to deal with something they aren't very good at dealing with. Government being an expert at marketing? I mean... it can... but most of the time.... ya... someone else can likely do it better.
Lucy seems like she would be a great friend. Always there for a good time but willing to tell you like it is when necessary.
