Sergei Rachmaninov Cello Sonata, Op. 19 Movement III for Baritone Saxophone

- Rachmaninoff’s Sonata for Cello and Piano was completed in 1901. This work is a part of Rachmaninoff’s resurgence of composition that came after a three year bout with mental health issues that followed a negative response to the premiere of his first symphony in 1897. This sonata was dedicated to Rachmaninoff’s great friend and colleague Anatoliy Brandukov. Brandukov and Rachmaninoff premiered the work in December of 1901, just a short time after the premiere of his famous second piano concerto. This piece must be approached as a true duo work, as the piano and cello parts are equally important and difficult. This is a beautiful tribute to a long and meaningful friendship.

Wow, I'm a bari sax player as well. I just wanted to say, you have such a beautiful tone! You inspire me, and for that thank you!
Beautiful tone, wonderful phrasing, vibrato is perfect... so happy to see another classical baritone player :)
Your tone is richer than Bill Gates
HAHAHA! Thanks, man. I really appreciate it. Will I be seeing you in Louisville next year?
YES! I can wait for ya'll its gonna be fantastic
Abe Tackett looking forward to it!!
@@sbanks590 Can you share publication information about this transcription? Trying to locate it online. Thanks.
2:45-3:25 is SO GOOD. Great performance
I can't believe I'm just getting to this recording. I love how your extreme altissimo notes sound just like a cello. And can't forget that jump to the low C before that.
Great! I knew this instrument could be expressive, but I never knew how that'd sound. Lovely :)
this is absolutely gorgeous. Your warmth and tone on that final note was almost transcendent and the sensitive and virtue of the pianist is just as complementary.
Wow, incredible performance! Just wow!!!
very behooving as the viola arrangement! but with such velvet mellowness like wine
Amazing!
Damn, I sure wish there were more classical pieces for saxophone. The wide range of expression and refinement on display here is just never exploited in jazz. All you jazz fans don't need to remind me that jazz exploits other aspects of playing that aren't heard here, but squawking like a strangled goose isn't my idea of a pretty sound.
i mainly play jazz and i cant seem to understand why jazz bari players choose to have a goosey sound.
@@mccplayzmc7113 its mainly because they want a big powerful and deep sound, jazz is a vastly different style compared to classical
uh....this is lovely but the idea that jazz doesn't explore sound is just silly!!! Sounds like someone needs to listen to Harry Carney, Gerry Mulligan...a long list...
beautiful
