  • In this episode, I make the final 400 odd kilometers to Luanda, the capital of Angola. Alaska, my Honda CRF300 Rally is running poorly since the little river incident in the Congo, and tons of other abuse. I've heard good things about this motorcycle shop in Luanda, so let's see if they can fix her up!

I found her vids about a year ago. I began watching as she was beginning her trip through BC, Canada and up to finish in Alaska. This was her ride from Patagonia to Alaska. I live in BC so her trip though my home province was of interest to me.
THEN I saw that she was travelling through West Africa. GOOD! I lived and worked in Nigeria for two years MANY years ago, and also had a small motorcycle. I rode that machine through most of Nigeria and to Niger, Benin, Togo and back and also into Cameroon and back to Nigeria.
So I watched all of her vids from Ghana to Cameroon... and continue to watch her now.
Nigeria has NOT changed very much in the decades since I was there, and the police shaking people down for money was a common occurrence. I never gave anyone any money though I was detained ("arrested"!) three times.
It was never an easy ride in Nigeria because of corrupt cops, unlike the other countries that I visited.
I commend her courage and stamina.

The guys in the petrol station were very nice to you, Noraly. The guy who was queueing was saying that the petrol station manager was demanding his staff to better organise the station as surely he wasn't happy with the way things looked so that's why they weren't attending the public at that moment. But he also asked you to go in and speak with the manager to see if he could open an exception and attend you instead of staying in the queue with them. I could also hear the lady at the petrol station asking her male colleague to go speak with you in English as he knew some English. Hence the guy coming to speak to you in English.

I believe they blew you kisses 7:32, because they were genuinely amazed by your prowess, the fact that you're a female biker. They even asked it to confirm it 6:22 ''é menina ou rapaz?'' = is it a girl or a boy?, to which our local friend replied, ''é menina'' = it's a girl, while putting his hands on his head as it has might just been blown away, after his confirmation, the young guys started throwing their appreciation at you.
As you were there, you can tell being a biker is somewhat of a lifestyle for most young Angolans. However, you don't see any female biker. As a born and raised Angolan, I used to feel the same way towards female bikers, riders or racers, even now, it just makes my day. I recently came to Europe and female bikers are pretty much every corner (compared to Angola), I always show appreciation!

It has even an old portuguesese fortress called "Fortaleza de São Miguel".

I had no clue what to expect with Angola but am pleasantly surprised so far. The name Noraly and a good hearty breakfast have become synonymous. If I had a restaurant I would name a big breakfast menu selection after her. Amazing scene at petrol station; long lines, nothing moving. Noraly pulls up, gets motioned to a pump where no one is at a few feet away, gets cheap gas and so happy leaves tip and is on her way, everyone else is watching. Awesome to see such a blessing after what she has been through. Impressed with the high tech bike shop. Cool scene showing them checking the performance of the fuel injector and I saw they scoped the cylinder as well. They did a fine job cleaning up Alaska. She looks so nice. Peace! ❤❤❤

I can't speak for her specifically - but on youtube travel vlogs, you're only seeing 20 minutes, out of perhaps a week of traveling. The most fun, nice or interesting parts are put into the vlog. I can imagine that most vloggers won't put in their lowest moments, because either they are concerned with other things than turning on a camera while going through an existential crisis, or they know that people might not want to see it and quit watching if there's a lot of negativity in the vlog - harming viewership and income.
But one thing's for sure: Noraly never gives up. Even when things go really bad, next week she'll just be riding to another country again. I'm amazed.

Very impressive workshop, proper tools and skilled staff, but cherry on top, they took you in right away, even though they were already very busy with many other bikes, and had all the parts new! Even in Europe this is impossible lol.

A beautiful day to ride to Luanda! The long lines for fuel were definitely strange and no wait next door! You found a great breakfast too! Luanda is a beautiful city and the bike shop was a great find! Glad you found great mechanics. Ride safe and thanks for sharing your day Noraly!

The long lines if you understood Portuguese very well the guy said they are on the line because the manager came and asked for organisation , that's why they were waiting. Regarding her being served in front of all of them, unfortunately that's how White people are treated in Angola , they get preference everywhere. It would happen to you as well.

Good morning it’s Sunday February 18th. I enjoy your channel on UA-cam so very much. My grandson Ian who will be 22 tomorrow just purchased a 2022 Honda 300 just like Alaska. It has been his dream for more than a year and a half; and now it’s a reality. You are an inspiration to him and as far as adventure you are “it”! Keep safe and know you are appreciated and loved by many. ❤

As a Portuguese, I like to see the huge improvements since I was in Luanda the last time. Nice to see some places when I lived for 5 years before the Independence also. University na Marginal, Office of my father and others. Congratulations
Parabéns amigos Angolanos pelas melhorias que são bem visíveis desde Cabinda até Luanda. Grande profissionalismo na oficina.
Noraly, you are special. Good luck for East Africa

60k, hard terrain and a dip in the river will take its toll.
Perfect shop to refresh the old girl.
Now you relax with the fact she's all good.
    Safe travels and cheers 🍻

When I see the word “Alaska” I no longer first think of the US state, rather, Noraly’s amazing Honda CRF Rally first comes to mind 😊 Must have been such a relief to see her get top notch service and parts. She looks amazing, even after the beating she’s endured. Looking forward to seeing the new equipment you got. Great episode, Noraly ❤

I run a store in Ottawa. I’ve had several Nigerian clients in the past week - and all of them follow you. They were very impressed by your roadblock behaviour, Noraly. As was I. When I was in Nigeria, I did not argue: I usually just paid. Hats off to you!

Following your channel for the last few years. Words fail me , as I admire you so much as an exceptional human being. Love everything about your videos, but most of all Thank you so much for showing the world to us in a way that no one has ever done before. Nothing fake, nothing manufactured, just the world as it is. Love those nuggets of information, & of course meeting the people. As for that bike. Considering everything that it has been through, man oh man, that is one hell of a machine!!!!!!!!

This part of the country/city was built by the Portuguese. So you can see many colonial buildings around. However, the daily life of locals in their neighborhoods is miserable.
