What I will say is, if you think those things were bad, you should see what KMT did to the people living in Taiwan. If you really want a balanced view, look at some of the events that happened like the “Taiwan white terror” and all the other massacres that occurred when people didn’t want to support their party. The PRC’s government and the government that controls Taiwan. Both the WHO and the UN recognise the PRC as the rightful government of all of China. As for the IOC, the people living in Taiwan compete as Chinese Taipei.
Chinese Taipei is a name used for international events, it is also recognised but the WHO.
Chinese Taipei doesn’t mean that Taiwan is its own country, or sovereign nation.
The civil war never ended officially, so Taiwan cannot claim to be a country until it declares independence from Mainland China and its claim that it is the rightful ruler,which is written into their constitution, is revoked.
As for your reflection on the war. China helped themselves, they stopped the civil war to fight a common enemy and had they surrendered to Japan, after millions died, Asia would have been compromised and Japanese forces would have had access to all of Asia and Europe. Let’s also be clear that America didn’t really get involved in WW2 until they were bombed by Japan. A country that has been at war with someone else for more than 90% (you can search that) of their history didn’t do much even for their European allies until Japan bombed them.
WW2 ended in 1945, after that, the civil war started back up. In 1949 America jumped in and saved the KMT party from defeat by helping them escape to Taiwan. This is yet another example of America getting involved with the internal affairs of a country to promote their own political ideas. They did the same thing in the Vietnam war. The pro-democracy governments where not popular among the people and didn’t have the strength to win, so America jumped in to strengthen its grip and push its ideologies throughout the international community.
I don’t support the KMT because they were not the superior government. If you cannot see the importance of Mao and the cultural revolution had on China and how it inspired its people to be strong fighters and work hard for things, I don’t have the time to go over it’s importance in depth. What I will say is, if you think those things were bad, you should see what KMT did to the people living in Taiwan. If you really want a balanced view, look at some of the events that happened like the “Taiwan white terror” and all the other massacres that occurred when people didn’t want to support their party.
Also don’t be so arrogant that Australians don’t use the word “majoring”. In Australia you select a degree in something (eg, bachelor in science) and then pick majors and minors (chemistry, biology etcetera). America isn’t as special as you think.
