In the UK, if you ask someone to be your bridesmaid then you provide the dress. I think it’s wild to expect your friends and family to pay hundreds of dollars for a dress that you will most likely chose. Insanity.

Apart from my evil sister in law that wanted us to pay for the dress (almost £200) shoes (£70) hair and make up (£200) and then the hen do costs on top. She knew I was in my first year of uni (and extremely low income) and couldn’t afford it so I shed a lot of tears over it. In the end I dropped out because her and her sister were bullying me over not having any money, was fun to explain to my extended family on the day why I wasn’t bridesmaid at my brothers wedding 😂
In my family we get fabric, we usually pay for the seamstress, we have freedom about the style (but my aunt provided the fabrics and the seamstress, we just came to measure and tell which style we want).
My mom was a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding. All the bridesmaids were musicians, so the bride made the dresses black so they could wear them for concerts and get more than one use out of them. The only one who wasn't able to do that was my mom because she plays cello and the skirt was too narrow, but it was still a nice thought.

As something other than a photographer I have been in 2 weddings as an adult. one was an amazing experience the other a nightmare the first was my sister's wedding. she only had 2 bridesmaids: me & her bestie. she actually wanted us to buy dresses we would wear again so she gave us a general style & color and we hit the fashion district in dallas and bought two dresses that cost $100 total for both. they weren't exactly the length we wanted and they had ugly bows/flowers on them but we took them to a seamstress and she shortened them to tea length and took of the "extras" they came out amazing and didn't break the bank. the other wedding had like dozen bridesmaids and the bride claimed she wanted us to have a dress we would wear again but she picked the WORST color (terracotta/peach?) and the cut didn't look good on any of us. we all looked stubby & square & washed out. it was such a bad experience i almost backed out of being in the wedding. when I finally got my dress it was literally the same color as my skin so i looked sickly. She also required us to get dyed to match shoes. Oh and don't let me forget I broke my hand a couple weeks before the wedding so I. had to hide my cast in all the photos. that dress & shoes went to goodwill the next day. oh I had also had to convince the photographer (who was my friend & the bride's ex) not to walk out and leave while we were getting ready because the bride's father decided that was the perfect time to have a screaming tantrum and berate him about her bridal portraits that the bride LOVED but he hated. her wedding and the wedding of her friend that I shot were the reason I stopped doing weddings all together.
Yeah it helps especially because not every color looks good on every skin tone so having a spectrum gives them ability to find a color that works for them and if all the colors in the spectrum she chose looks good on someone it gives them more options
I happened upon an after prom sale at Dillards… it was during the summer and the dresses were ridiculously inexpensive. I saw the perfect shade of pink on an absolutely stunning floor length gown. $7!!!!!! Called my MOH and made sure the size would fit and bam! A bridesmaid dress for less than $10 and it looked amazing on her. So easy!

And while that may be a bit pricey for a single dress, that customisability (being able to find multiple styles across diverse sizes in the same colour) makes it worth it. It's a real struggle to find matching dresses otherwise, unless you want to get identical styles for everyone, which may not be flattering to everyone's shape

A beautiful one shoulder purple floor length with pretty embroidery and shiny belt broach. Only costs us 200 bucks. Her dress was around 1500? With alterations. I still have it- still fits too lol. The off the rack “in season” dresses were like 700 dollars I nearly had a heart attack- Edit: no I did not pay- mom paid for the dress. My sister wore a kilt she’d had for a while- we looked glorious

Wouldve been nice. I was a bridesmaid for my cousin, when I was in highschool. The dress alone $200. The alterations $600 + the alterer scammed us, didnt tell us how expensive he would be, held the dresses hostage, and he destroyed my dress. My dress was already a size 0, all I wanted was a hem, cause I was too short, and straps added. He was creepy, he kept getting wayyy too in my business to the point my cousins had to step in. He also took in the sides of the dress by several inches. I could no longer breathe in that stupid dress. So during the wedding, I had to keep getting unzipped so I wouldnt pass out. Additionally, because the stupid dress was $700, my grandma required me to wear it for junior prom :( My grandma paid for it, I was in highschool. Originally my cousin was going to, but the d@mn dude decided to up and charge 200% of normal alteration costs. For avoiding him. Its the indian dress shop at Town West Mall in Wichita, Kansas, hes always very creepy with girls, he even cupped another brides mades boobs with his bands. Dont worry I dont live there so im a safe distance from that creep, and i feel comfy letting anyone know to not go there

Like, it's your wedding, you're the one who's supposed to pay for the bridesmaid dresses and all expenses for them regarding the wedding, like hair appointments and stuff. I love revelry. But if you want cheap dresses just go to a department store. It's not complicated. No one likes bridesmaid dresses anyway; they're not formal enough for a formal even and are too dressy for a casual event.

Birdie gray and Azazie. My bridesmaids got their dresses from Azazie. My best friend had her bridesmaids get theirs from Birdie gray. Sizing with Azazie is a little weird but the quality, sizes, colors and fabrics are beautiful
for my sisters wedding we just got dresses from shein cuz we're in alaska and we really just only have davids bridal and they're amazing but hella expensive lol and the dresses we got were all under $20 i think and they werent that great of quality but they worked!!!

My cousin and aunt where my brides maid while grandma was my maid of honor I knew they all had navy blue dresses or in my grandmas case skirt because years ago my cousin (different cousin) wedding was Cinderella themed and she wanted the bridal party to wear navy blue I also knew my cousin (my bridesmaid) had a navy blue dress because I've seen her wear it before. I just asked them to wear the navy dresses or skirt and blouse they had because it matched my fall theme which already had some navy blue in it. They all looked amazing and they didn't need to pay for a new dress.
Etsy has cheap but good quality dresses. I got a custom wedding dress for $250 off of a seller from there. It was two pieces, a lace top with flared sleeves and a skirt. I have a super short torso so custom was necessary for a proper fit.
Yeah I owe 300$ for my maid of honor dress for my best friends wedding and I just can’t afford it but I have to make it work because she’s counting on me to be there for her and I don’t know what to do honestly
While these dresses are lovely, no one should have to pay for dresses that isnt for their own wedding! If you want specific dresses you have to provide them. If you dont wish to provide the dresses then the bridesmaids may choose to dress similarly with dresses they already own.
My aunt is using that for her wedding actually and she loves them like really does and my mom is a bridesmaid so she’ll be wearing one of the dresses I’m getting on as well but not as a bridesmaid it’s gonna be a different color of course but yea
That was my favorite part of my friends wedding. Was her choosing a color then telling us to get a dress for under $100 in a style from the website. (A different one, Azazi i think). They had free custom sizing and everything was so nice
ahh i was just a bridesmaid where i wore one of these dresses! the bride had us pick a beautiful blue color and we could do any cut we wanted. i got mine for half off ($49) and it is such a great dress! i got it tailored to just above my knees after the wedding and i wear it to all kinds of formal events now!!!

I used them for my wedding too, they were great and had Black Friday sales which was even better. I think sizes goes up to a 4XL

Yeah their dresses are more affordable to some extent, but their size chart for the plus size dresses is bizarre and makes ordering really difficult.

While these dresses are lovely, no one should have to pay for dresses that isnt for their own wedding! If you want specific dresses you have to provide them. If you dont wish to provide the dresses then the bridesmaids may choose to dress similarly with dresses they already own.
In my country telling people what to wear at your wedding is not a thing thankfully.

That was my favorite part of my friends wedding. Was her choosing a color then telling us to get a dress for under $100 in a style from the website. (A different one, Azazi i think). They had free custom sizing and everything was so nice

ahh i was just a bridesmaid where i wore one of these dresses! the bride had us pick a beautiful blue color and we could do any cut we wanted. i got mine for half off ($49) and it is such a great dress! i got it tailored to just above my knees after the wedding and i wear it to all kinds of formal events now!!!
