I rank Patriot alongside Breaking Bad. The care and craft of this show is exemplary. Love the esoteric industrial pipe-fitting jargon, funniest part of the show.
Truly. The "flanged pan coupler connector" stuff was HILARIOUS!
Reminds of BB too. There are so many things they didn’t have to do to make a scene work, but they did then anyone. Obsessive striving for something like perfection. There are things in this show I’ve never seen before anywhere.
I watched the 1st season without pause. Couldn't believe what I was seeing. Brilliance.
My absolute favorite series. The comedy was dark, potent, and organic. The characters, lovable. The plot turns so unexpected and engaging. The even mixture of joy and sorrow, creating poignance. No show has ever effected me as much as this one.

One of the best shows I’ve ever seen I think. Did comedy, subtle badass/genius protagonist and heartbreak like nothing I’ve seen
I know what you mean, I'm currently rewatching the series and those moments where you see John smile is so spread out between the stress of his jobs and being there for family. It's painful to watch it knowing the outcome.
My wife and I *LOVE* this show! The writing makes us laugh out loud. The sterile colors make it look like it was adapted from a graphic novel. Just watching Michael Dorman look sad and worried makes me laugh -- what a wonderful performance.
We're looking forward to whatever creator Steven Conrad does! What genius.
Favorite scene: a 2.5 minute long static shot of two characters playing Rock Paper Scissors. OMG so good.

Greatest show of the past decade, easily.
No show has touched me the same way this masterpiece did. Any show recommendation that creates the same mood would be much appreciated
Steve Conrad worked on Perpetual Grace LTD and Ultra City Smiths as well. He still puts out episodes that supplement Patriot content on podcast episodes of The Integral Principles of the Structural Dynamics of Flow podcast. He also made one called New Techniques in Modern Practical Close Combat.
I haven't seen many other writers that can make what he does. The pacing doesn't really match the tempo of more popular shows that people are used to watching nowadays. I think this adds to how special his content feels.
true detective season 1. not as comedic as patriot can be, but its main character is incredibly compelling like john is
An excellent show that's not satisfying if your only goal is to get from A to B quickly. I've watched it twice, and will watch it again, for sure.
I loved it so much. I’m sure I’ll never again have the pleasure of enjoying a main character who is a handsome, bearded, folk singing bull rider and happens to be a super spy and RCB champion 😢. All the supporting characters were simply perfect.
Are you familiar with Rip from Yellowstone? His interests are way more limited, but still hella+sexy!

The best show ever made.
I had the privilege of watching For All Mankind (another seriously underrated and under-watched show) before learning about Patriot, so I was already a fan of Michael Dorman. Patriot instantly sucked me in. Too bad it was released when it was or I believe it would have been huge.

This is how I got to Patriot. Michael Dorman stuck out a mile in For All Mankind and Gordo’s like a proto-John. Brave, loyal and troubled. He expressed so much with his face in FAM that he was the perfect fit for this as he has to convey so much just by staring.
Underrated and amazing show, Conrad smashed it out of the park with Patriot. I only wish it got a 3rd season.

It’s a real shame how they dropped the ball on marketing the show. They’ve done so much for others, it’s a mystery how this one slipped through the cracks

I’ve watched everything and without a doubt Patriot is A1. The first time I watched it I just wasn’t prepared for what it was and didn’t get/couldn’t follow it. Thankfully I gave it another shot and still, after watching at least twice a year, I’m catching new, beautiful, nuance. It’s an absolute masterpiece. The scene where John is sitting in the pipes and all his myriad problems are laid out as each character confronts him could be an award-winning short film.

Although I live in Germany I watch a lot of Netflix and Amazon and streaming services in general and also a lot of series, but I didn't discover this great series until 2020 or 2021, and it's just great, the first season is much better than the second but still an absolute masterpiece, just as good as the Americans.

The most underrated thing I have ever found on streaming. I can't believe this wasn't a household name show, on par with HOC or GOT when it came out. I can't believe "Squid Game" was like "you watch this or you are out of touch and don't understand society!" and this thing was not even mentioned. So loving this show! It reminds me of how great "Barry" was when I caught up with that, and nobody in the recommendations business was even mentioning it. Thanks.

Loved the first season a lot. A true master piece but getting rid of the writers for the second season was a big disappointment. The second season missed something.
Season 1 especially holds a special place in my heart. There wasn't as much manpower behind the second season but there are definitely some incredible payoffs in Season 2. The Train oner in "Guns of Paris" was incredible. I don't think I've laughed with genuine joy and relief at my screen like I did when I saw "Fuck John Wayne"

It's pretty good.
it was a great show, its a shame it isnt renewed , but it is for the stoner genre, too much comedy and stoner for a conservative to understand certain nuances, its not a tough guy action movie or series, i have yet to finish season 2, 2 more episodes season 2, but i have enjoyed it immensely , the music is all original almost, singing messages to his wife, on stage, build up , touring music, and its hilarious , and it is intense dramatic that makes you literally sit on edge of seat, and then there are surprises that shock me, i hate to see it end and am apprehensive about what kind of ending i am in for, and there is always another streamer may pick it up if Steven Conrad wants to write them, enjoyed watching your take
