Ashley, you're awesome! Until I found your video all I could find is how to add a pdf to your website. No one else was telling how to submit a name and email THEN download the doc. Thanks so much! 😀 (subscribed)
@@wixmadesimple I realized that I'll need to upgrade my ascend plan to use this feature (I have a free ascend plan now). Is there any other free ways to do something similar? Thanks!
Sadly this is now only for Business Premium customers, I'm on an Unlimited package and can't click the 'show link to file download' very annoying. Is there any other way to offer a free download whilst capturing emails?
This was very interesting. I had no idea you could do this with Wix, but it's such a cool idea. I like the simple, easy way you described here. I'm learning Wix myself and am gonna go play with this feature to see how it works. I don't know what Ascend features are - but I hope they're free in Wix. Thanks for sharing this.
UPDATE: This is a very cool feature that no longer works in 2022 without an Ascend pro upgrade. Which sucks. And if that was always the case - it should have been made clear in the video that this is a paid feature.
@@wixmadesimple Thank you! This is EXACTLY what I've been looking to do! Please keep making WIX vids bc I like how clear and effective your vids are! Do you find that the Basic ($10/mo) Ascend Pro upgrade is sufficient for a new biz? I just launched this past July.
Do you know how to do this on the free Wix Blog? All I can see is the option to add a download, but I can't seem to find where to link it to a button or text.
Fantastically helpful thank you. Question: can I do something to stop the pdf file being shared? I noticed when I opened it to print it from there it could be saved and shared / emailed etc? Again THANK YOU!
With this setup, there's not really a way to protect the Pdf in the way you describe, but other options include delivering the PDF via email (vs showing it directly) or you could have the submit message include a password and a link to a password protected page that display the PDF but ultimately crappy people will still probably share it!
I love this tutorial! Well done. I heard though that if you use a Lightbox on your website for a long period of time, Google will penalize the website owner. Is this true? I want to have readers to download a free chapter, but if I keep this Lightbox with the download for a long period of time, I don't want Google to penalize me. Thanks for your help.
Thanks Ashley, so helpful! So can does Wix allow the option of instant download and then I can have an automation on the other end so that they get an email too? Just considering moving across to Wix from WP :)
Thank you. I may have missed this, but can you do this for audio files, too? Or could I use the same method but instead of a pdf or audio file downloaded from the site, have the customer sent to a Google drive folder which allows them to download their material from there?
I'm having a hard time finding the option for download using WIX studio. The lightbox is under layout tools, then it seems you have to add a subscribe form, which is under contact and forms. But I don't see how to change the submit message to a link. I hope I'm just not seeing it, can you help?
This is really helpful, but when the submit button is pressed on the form it returns an error message: Couldn’t submit form due to a temporary issue. Try again later. I can't figure out what to do. I've tried starting over, but get the same results on all the light boxes on my website.
ok nice one. However I am trying to do dynamic download URLs, not a static pdf. Let me explain, I have a list of case studies (pdfs hosted externally). on my Wix page I have a collection of these PDFs. However I want to collect information from the person who is downloading these pdfs. How do I introduce a popup form to collect and on submitting the form, direct the person to the pdf he/she has selected?
that is just a container box with some text and a button on it- when you select the button you get to choose what action it takes/preforms when clicked such as sending an email, navigating to a page, starting an email, etc so that button is what you connect to the lightbox.
Everything worked until I clicked "Click here to download." I got this message: Couldn’t submit form due to a temporary issue. Try again later. What did I do wrong?
Direct download link is good but what if visitor use fake mail for download pdf ? That is why i think send an email is better than show download link. When you send pdf via mail, you can check is mail adres fake or real. By the way thank you for video !
Thank you. This is very helpful ☺️
In the last 3 days of non-stop WIX tutorials, you are THE BEST!
Glad this was helpful!
This is the most clear instruction I could find! Thank you!

Thank you so much for this (lol 3 years ago) step by step. Have to link to download now, but perfect. You're a good teacher.

@@wixmadesimple I realized that I'll need to upgrade my ascend plan to use this feature (I have a free ascend plan now). Is there any other free ways to do something similar? Thanks!
Yes! You should be able to choose the option to link to a page or light box for your success message and embed the PDF there :)

Yeah I am in the same situation too.
I'm in the same boat :( What did you end up doing?
Thank you miss, looking for a clear tutorial.
Very helpful, clear instructions, very pleasant presentation style. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you! Do I need to include an opt-in check box as I'm based in europe?
Nice. Thanks a lot.
How do you insert the buy now button and link it to a pdf for buyers to download after purchasing?
Do you know how to make the URL of the PDF shorter or change the whole URL so it looks better for your brand. Maybe add your website name, please?
thank you! very helpful!
great tutorial! Can you do this to a blog post in Wix?

I do believe that they changed this to a paid feature - thanks for posting the update!

So true.. Ok and thank you just so very much, your videos are just soooo helpful! So glad I found you!
Very helpful! :) Thank you.
Also… I missed a subscriber with my freebie…. Can I make a once off or limited time link (?) that I send in an email?
Very helpful. Thanks!

Thank you. but I linked the contact form to another page and it won't link when I click on it
how do you do this on the new wix forms? The button doesn't appear to be customisable, apart from external link or a submit message.
Great question- I think I'll do my next video on this since there have been so many updates since this video. Thanks for the question!
this was super clear thanks!
Cool ! Thanks !
How did you create the come home to yourself overlay in order to connect it to light box?
that is just a container box with some text and a button on it- when you select the button you get to choose what action it takes/preforms when clicked such as sending an email, navigating to a page, starting an email, etc so that button is what you connect to the lightbox.
@@wixmadesimple thank you so much for this information I truly appreciate it!😀
is there a way for me to do a link for UA-cam as well?
thank you :)

So happy to hear! I don't have time to make videos very often anymore but I love hearing that some of them are still helping!
