    Electric smokers are the best bang for the buck hands down. I've owned every type of smoker and for ease of use and cost, operational, electric is the way to go. Pellet smokers don't come close to the flavor from an electric smoker. You want to have a digital controlled smoker that is insulated. The max temp of 275 - 300 of an electric should not be an issue, it's a smoker, not a grill. Of all the food I've smoked on my different smokers, electric, propane, charcoal / wood, and pellet, the food from the electric smoker gets the best review.

    Another solid and well thought out video, sir!
    My first smoker was a Masterbuilt electric (digital) and it served me very well for quite a while until the heating element finally went out.

      Thanks Mark. I'm sure you got your money out of it. I wonder how difficult it is to change out a heating element in one?

      @@SmokeMasterD Not difficult, however, my model was out of commission so I actually sold it to someone who needed the digital display.

      @@SmokeMasterD It's easy to change and runs about $ 28.00 from amazon for the element kit.

    I live in a second floor apartment with a very small patio so electric was the only option for me. I bought a Smokin-it #1 and it is perfect for my needs. I mainly smoke pork butts and it can do two at once in the dead of winter when it's 10 degrees outside. If I'm doing chicken I can crisp up the skin in my air fryer after the smoke.
    Some folks love the process of tending a fire but that ain't me. I can go to bed or go fishing and never have to worry about it going out or lighting my building on fire. Plus it's cheap to run and doesn't use much wood.

    My review is the one I can afford is the one I buy. Bud o' mine spent $1000+ on a smoker / grill. He uses it about a dozen times a year. We grill / smoke during the cooler months dozens of times. Our limit on ANY gas / charchol / electric device is under $300. Its been over a hundred for 22 consecutive days here. Eating salads, and airfryer chicken.

    I use to own a SmokinIt Model 2 analog. It shines doing Boston butts and sausages. Ribs were meh and chicken was always rubbery due to lack of being able to kick up the temp. It’ will keep temp in cold weather and it’s durable. I just wanted more control with my cooking . Good video!

    Nobody talks about the convenience of wood pellets instead of chips. I'm very pleased with pellets and can fit more smokable wood in the 'chip' box than I can chips for longer smoking times without intervention. I use the Char Broil digital silver model(249.00).

    If you want billowing, white, bitter smoke, get an electric. If you want thin, blue, good tasting smoke, get an offset or a pellet grill.

      You certainly have a point. The little I have used my electric smoker, I have been disappointed with the results. It certainly works pretty well at holding brisket at 150 degrees for 10+ hours 😊

    Aren't pellet vertical smokers less expensive to run? I've found wood chips are generally $5-6 per pound, and pellets are $1 per pound. Wouldn't it then be worth it to spend more initially to purchase a more-efficient pellet vertical smoker?

    • @SmokeMasterD
      @SmokeMasterD  2 роки тому

      Quite possibly. Of course there are higher end pellets too. One of my first videos was actually on this question.

      @@SmokeMasterD I think the info you provided in that video regarding cost is biased, though. Most numbers stated are 2.5 pounds of pellets per hour at a very common cooking temperature. That's at least $2 an hour. An electric can run 3 hours on just a cup of chips.

      Electric is cheaper to run than a pellet by far only thing that cost less is an offset and free wood.
