    Helped me replace my own timing belt and water pump although not very detailed. The hardest part for me was removing the crankshaft pulley bolt - I finally managed to do it with a socket and extension fixed against the suspension and cranked the car (with spark plug cables removed!) and the bolt unscrewed. I managed to remove and install the back timing cover without unbolting the power steering pump bracket.

    Heads up to anyone that sees this needing to find timing, left cam has 2 dimples in the cam about 80-90⁰ to the right of the yellow mark, line them up to the 2 notches above the cam.

    Awesome video. This is almost an identical process for the V6 on the 626, MX6, and Probe.

    dumb question but if the covers are cracked or missing bolts will that cause a significant oil leak? Sister has this car and some shade tree mechanic changed her timing belts and now there is a slight leak by the AC compressor. I can't tell if it's coming from around the timing belt covers or maybe it's time for the oil pan gasket to be changed

    Well, it's not much, but it's good enough to show me what I'll be doing tomorrow... Don't you just love DOHC V6 FWD cars???

    How the hell do you remove the left timingbelt cover without braking it.. and the idler pulley and bracket withou swearing.! Puting it back was even worse. Had to remove the alternator and AC compressor to get any access.

    Great video. Btw, what's the direction of rotation of the engine? I've got a rattle/rumble that happens at low rpms and goes away above 1000. I'm pretty sure it's the timing belt tensioner so I figured I'd do the timing belt, water pump and tensioner all in one go.

    • @boatdude12
      @boatdude12 9 місяців тому

      What did it end up being? I have the same from 800-1800RPM.

    • @stopthephilosophicalzombie9017

      @@boatdude12 It was a bad tensioner and idler pully bearing. Also the bracket that holds the idler bearing is warped on a lot of these 626 cars, so even if you replace the bearing it will fail again the same way. My harmonic balancer failed also in the same period.

    Is that the cam position sensor on the lower right of the crank pulley? Looks like it. I need to replace in my 2.5 626.

      @skip741x3 5 років тому

      that is the Crank position sensor bro...its triggered by the little points on the back of the harmonic balancer pulley

    Is there any way you could make a video on how to change the serpentine belt

    • @marcfizer5101
      @marcfizer5101 5 років тому

      Old comment, but you loosen the nut (17mm) on the idler pulley associated with the tensioner then use a 10mm socket to back off the idler pulley from the belt to loosen it enough to remove the belt. To get to the power steering belt, you have to remove the AC/alternator belt

    Make sure #1 piston is at top.NOT at BDC. remove plug and check with a hose.if wrong turn crank bolt one more revolution
    \look at 2:48 o0n video you will see two marks in housing and gear 1 tooth apart.they knew you would not see same mark as right gear

  • @ProfessionalDad

    Did you put a serpentine belt in or a timing belt or are they the same

    • @skip741x3
      @skip741x3 5 років тому

      totally different things! serpentine belts, there are 2, are easy as pie to do and take abt 15 mins to replace.. timing belt is a tough job and 6 to 10 hrs depending on ur experience
