Wow, that was a blast from the past had a XR3 in 1988 with a smokey engine🙄 spent easter weekend grinding valves by hand and replaced piston rings etc.. And back on the road for work Monday. Remember it like yesterday😊
Yeah an alot of people say they weren’t very tuneable engines , I’ve just recently bought a mk3 xr2i as a winter project . Wanted a mk2 again but prices through the roof 😱 the nova was my last build
Nice job well done. I too can remember the CVHs from the early nineties, they always smoked on startup and on gear changes!! They got a lot of bad press for the belts snapping but that’s usually down to a lack of maintenance, the one I had I found to be pretty reliable simple engine. Now, please put the cover back on that 3phase distribution board As it is a death trap in that workshop environment. All the best.
Super job as always thanks for taking the time to video the progress from start to finish. Just a thought outtakes if any on any of your jobs providing it did not upset your punters
Had loads xr2s and xr3s in the past. Loved messing with them. Remember the crap factory spanners you supposed to use for adjusting the solid lifters in situ... Last xr2 or xr3 I saw was in Tenerife (mint xr3i), not seen one here for a long time. Really interesting rebuild / recondition thank you!
As usual, it's great to see the knowledge and care you put into your work. The video's and content are excellent. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. Thanks Trevor
Ahhhh i remember absolutely ragging the shir out of escort van down M27 with Xr2 engine in it ......1mm skimmed off the head and the flywheel lightened by an old boy Peter that was a magician😊
Great work👍 as I have an early xr3 that I’m wanting head work done with a mild road cam but what’s the score with unleaded conversion as can remember something from way back that every 3rd or 4th tank had to be old 4 star? Thanks
Thank you.. if we can help with yours just ask.. some of the head castings have seats hard enough for lead free, I can't remember what ones though.. as soon as the seat cutter touches it I know.

Top job as usual, love the air operated valve spring compresor.Keep the videos coming.
Thanks Philip.. yes it's a handy little tool.. will do
Remember back in my early 20’s I’d a xr2 an had a HT built CVH . What a thing to go . Came out a ex sprint / hill climb car 👌🏼
Yes, I love the fact people have good cvh memories.

👍
Thanks
James when you use the term i will put the head in the acid bath ? When i but aluminium in acid it melts .
Kit from down under
Hi kit, the acid is for removing paint, carbon and oil, it stinks. Lol
Have you done any N/A zvh engine conversion
Yes mate, a while ago now.. I have a 1900 conversion somewhere.. crank, pistons and rods
