  • Back at the Grand Canyon, this was my 5th R2R2R and Adam's first. We parked on the road and headed down South Kaibab and up North Kaibab then came back up to the South Rim via the Bright Angel Trail, then had to walk/job back on the Rim Trail.

    Great video. What shoes were you guys wearing, and how much water do you think you drank?

    • @HikingEngineer
      @HikingEngineer  Місяць тому +2

      I wear Salomon speedcross 6, Adam wore Hoka Speedgoat 5 (I think). I probably drank about 12 liters of fluid

    Fantastic job gentlemen! You guys were mobbing all the way to the NR, and then held on to it really well for the return. Burning those match sticks!! I enjoyed the video a lot. Great run-cam footage, no loud music, and just your commentary.
    I run R2R from the NR Lodge in mid-Aug, and early Oct every year, and have a few vids on the channel.
    If you like running in the short sleeve shirts, you might like white arm sleeves and it'll keep the sun off and keep you from needing to carry sun screen. The sleeves get wet with sweat, or in the GC you keep getting 'em wet at the water faucets and creek crossings, and they turn your arms into body cooling radiators. Soooo nice. Meanwhile the short sleeves let some airflow into the shirt. I'm using Liquid I.V. in it's various flavors, and to that, adding a couple magnesium lysinate capsules broken in half, per refill (Doctor's Best Magnesium on Ama z-0n). First fill up of the day also gets a vitamin B complex 100 pill. Their Lemon/Ginger "Energy Multiplier" flavor, with Macha Green Tea is a nice one to start using towards the mid-way point, before I really start getting wrecked... And GU Roctane every 45min or so.
    I'll be there in a week to run another Rim2River with Phantom as the turn around point (aka: cowboy loop). Can't wait to be back, and the last weekend(s) of May are great running weather. Planning to send it pretty hard down S.Kaibab, just for grins, and I won't carry any water, to save on the bouncing and the weight penalty.

      you don't like the music :( I agree on the arm sleeves but only really will use them for multi day events or longer races

    Quite an accomplishment, Kevin! I have 2 questions. How much weight did you lose? No concerns for spraining an ankle due to your jogging?

      hey man long time no talk! I don't lose any weight I eat enough afterwards to make up for it haha. And no, my ankles are solid from all the trail running I do on rough terrain. I have a 100 mile race this fall and signed up for the Cocodona 250 next year (it's currently going on right now)
