Love the challenge coins! When my dad & I were on his Honor Flight he received a coin from my cousin who was Captain in the Navy, prior to his retirement and subsequent death last year (Captain in the Navy is equivalent to a Colonel in the other branches.) Daddy died last month and I know he treasured it greatly as it was a Command coin from when my cousin was in command of a nuclear sub and he was named after daddy.

My father was in the Army Air Corp during WWII in England near Lakenheath. His unit coin is one of my brother's most prized possessions. Very awesome!!!
My uncle was a military policeman in the U.S. army sent to Germany during WW2. He was in the squadron commanded by Jimmie Stewart and also included Walter Matthau.
My father what to Korea. His best friend and cousin, my Uncle Kenny, went with him and they served together. Dad read and wrote Kenny's love letters since he wasn't good at reading. Years later, only after my mother died (years after my father's death which was in 1979), my Uncle Kenny brought to the wake a bunch of medals and the flag that my mother had given him to keep, because he and my father had been so close. He gave them to one of my nephews

He spoke of young men who struggled as letters were really the only way to stay in touch with home and if reading and/or writing was difficult they were embarrassed to ask for help. Many did try to assist without being too obvious. Very cool that family could help family.

For him it was a way to get out and see the world being from a very poor family. The coins are very special, often handed out via a handshake. Soldiers, sailors airmen etc., are profoundly appreciative and feel that credit was given for a job well done. They keep those as a momento and a reminder of their service.
The challenge coins are so cool, I’m 22 and my father has been in the Army for 26 years. If you go by commercialization, then one could argue that the Oreo or Chips Ahoy brands could also be considered the top dog. I’m not a fan of any of those 3 cookies / brands, to me the best tasting cookies are the ones that are made from scratch in one’s own home.
@@porschesgt1tt The best tasting cookies are ones made from scratch at home. They're called Toll House cookies. The recipe has been on the back of Nestle semi-sweet chocolate morsels for over 50 years. I had that recipe memorized in 1979.
Rick is right. You need some Nestle's chocolate chips. They have a unique taste and make the cookie. Follow the Tollhouse recipe.
@@porschesgt1tt Toll house cookies are the original chocolate chip cookie. chocolate chip cookies didn't exist until they started making them at the toll house in Massachusetts. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toll_House_Inn
I don't even understand how you can compare toll house to nestle's. Even if you buy the premade dough you still have to MAKE toll house cookies. Oreos and chips ahoy are store bought.

I must stress here that all of these badges, patches and coins are literally parts/pieces of our hearts that we share., they have real meaning behind them.

Great video! As for Louisville, I grew up in Kentucky and family always said "Lou-uh-vul" but that may be an entirely Eastern Kentucky thing. Beautiful family!
I live about 10 minutes away from Louisville, and even the locals who've spent their whole lives there argue about the correct way to pronounce it😂 although, the way you said is the one I hear most commonly.
My husband lived in Louisville and I almost posted the “correct” pronunciation 🤣👏 I’ve even heard “Lou-vuhll” from some folks!
Louavul 😊👍❤️ I lived there for 20 years and people all say it different.
There is actually a T-shirt that shows all of the different pronunciations but I’m sure there are others lol

All the gifts you received in this video were so incredibly special, especially the pins. You have amazing fans! America had its share of problems as does everywhere, and yes, sometimes the grass looks greener from the other side. But we do have such generous people who give from their heart. Makes me so proud to be American.
Total Awesomeness Richard! ❤ What an honor God Bless
Wow, you guys seriously have some of the most generous subscribers of any channel. I have never seen common everyday people send so much lover before. It is very touching. It just shows how much your family is loved.

You guys deserve all the attention you are getting.
@@allanboyer2769 that is very cool. My thanks to him for his service. My father spoke about his time on the ground but very little about combat, what he did say was when pressed. They were such an amazing generation. My brother also found a combat photo of my Dad some time after my Dad's death, it is an amazing photo.
@@LindaC616 that's such a heartwarming story. Yes, my Dad ended up in supply because he could type. He'd have preferred a different area but he was also a waistgunner due to his size (big enough to handle the big gun but not small enough to be in the smaller spaces of the trail or ball turrets) and he took pride in that. He spoke of young men who struggled as letters were really the only way to stay in touch with home and if reading and/or writing was difficult they were embarrassed to ask for help. Many did try to assist without being too obvious. Very cool that family could help family.
@@janmoline They were best friends, Doing everything together. My dad had also dropped out of school in the 7th grade. The story that we were always told was that Uncle Kenny was so good looking at the teacher just passed him through without ever really assessing whether or not he was learning. He did have some amazing blue eyes! He was the 7th out of 8 children were right at the beginning of a depression (he was). For him it was a way to get out and see the world being from a very poor family. At the wake that the week that we had from my mother my Uncle also told us some funny stories that my father had never told us. He didn't talk much about the war other than the occasional funny story.
You are so blessed to feel the love from across the sea.

He’s just started his retirement and he has one coin for every year he’s been in, my mom got him a board that displays them all with the insignias of the Airbourne, Air Assault, and the unit he retired from, which was a US Special Forces group!
