@@cagedteethI think the “bland and silly”-ness of the model adds to the horror. You could expect it to be a big of spooky scary ultra horror monster, but it’s instead just a tall fleshy thing that runs at you. Much better for theorizing on in my opinion.
Not mentioned in the video, but this mod was made by horror genius Gargin. He also revolutionised Garry’s Mod Nextbots with “Gargatron” which is very similar to the Cave Dweller. Edit: it also has animations for when it’s crawling and going through one block holes, Sean’s strat wouldn’t have worked.
The potato person (Sorry I can’t remember his name) who made the map the smiling man is also excellent with horror. The map had a perfect combination of gore, storyline and jumpscares. One of the most terrifying scenes is being in a cage while surrounded on four sides by Bebal’s Monstrosities. The average player would assume they had been lead into a trap, the cage would rise, and they would die. However, instead there is a horrid shriek, and the mutants get flattened by the iron barriers, the player surviving, leaving a shocked, frozen, frightened and morbid feeling. edit:typo
I agree, I have watched some of Gargin's content for some time now, way before his Nextbot took Garry's mod by storm. He is truly masterful with the horror genre, and his code is truly masterful, being simple yet very complicated and sophisticated.
I really wish Gargin gave it the ability to climb because you can easily kill it in the same way as the iron golem by just building. If it could climb the mod would be way scarier.
Considering his main inspirations are the Enderman and Baby Zombie for their fear factor, adding a bit of Spider movement skill couldn't hurt. Ooh! Now I'm imagining a Cave Dweller that does have the Spider's ability to stick to walls, cause now imagine hearing those noises in a large cave, yet no matter how many times you spin around, you just can't find it... Only for you to look up, and it just drops on you.

Knowing the Cave Dweller's face glows in the darkness gives me chills when I see the glow lichen in the shader Forge is using. He picked the perfect shader for this, and he doesn't regret it XD
The thing with this mod, or any mods similar to this, is that alone you know it exists because you downloaded the mod, but you are the only one in that world that can actually “think.” Then, there’s the Cave Dweller. It may not be able to think, but it’s more advanced than the other mobs in the game. It can chase and crawl, I think maneuver, and in the end it will most likely kill you unless you manage to pull something to escape it. You have that sense that it’s around, and it’s just you, and it. With friends though, it lowers the fear aspect, entertaining and distracting you from the fact it’s there, even if you’re aware of it you don’t really mind it. Then you and your friends can just laugh while getting chased even with that adrenaline. Kind of shows the difference between being alone and being with at least one other person.
Ive played this mod before, and when i tell you it’s terrifying, that is an UNDERSTATEMENT. You can hear the sounds but its so hard to see. And when it sees YOU, the sound and the visual is enough to make a grown man cry. I never went mining alone ever again LOL

@@alastor6673 I believe proper grammar to be a useful skill. Your response is unnecessarily passive-aggressive, basically amounting to "I'm so sorry that you can't understand how *nobody cares,"* despite how my comment was not intended to be disrespectful in any manner. I even made several revisions of my comment in an attempt to make it as inoffensive as possible, as I know that corrections including nothing but a word and an asterisk are generally seen as rude, but it seems like my comment was still taken as an insult on your overall intelligence. If you make a mistake and somebody corrects it in a way that is not even intended to be an insult, the most impolite response possible is to get defensive and try to prove how capable you are. Is grammar a touchy subject for you? Or do you just not think of it as important? If it was the latter, you could've very easily written something along the lines of "I understand how you see proper grammar as important, but I only really care for how well people can understand what I'm saying." But you instead chose to insult me. Maybe you read my comment in a rude tone and assumed that was my intent? I don't like to start arguments over small mishaps, so I just want to suggest that you start reading comments in a neutral tone. It'll help you see them from a different point of view, and maybe improve your attitude towards others. You'll be generally more liked as a result of that, and it'll positively affect your social life. And maybe this end is taking you a bit off-guard, because you were expecting me to insult you, and started reading the comment in a rude tone once again. If that's the case, try re-reading it in a more polite and respectful tone. I understand that proper punctuation and long words can immediately be registered as disrespectful or argumentative, and I don't want you to see me in the wrong light as a result of that preconception.

I'd combine this mod with mods that remove regular vanilla mobs, restrain caves into the more smaller and tighter classic like caves, and also force you to go into caves as it only has ores near caves.
I think it would be less scary. And lessen the horror. With less distractions. You're just gonna be 100% of the time thinking about the dweller. So the encounters are less scary because you are always ready for it.
@@SamHoward-l9q Yes, less horror but it will provide a worse feeling, terror. You'll be worried about the unknown the whole time with less distractions
Don't know about the classic like caves but i agree with the mob removal. The complete silence from lack of mobs that would only be broken by the roars and sounds of the creature would be terrifying. It's literally just YOU and IT. I think the old caves are a bit boring. The new cave generation is more atmospheric and creepy and fits better with the cave dweller. Just my opinion though. There is no right or wrong here
@@vilxux9752 I think it would be cool (and scary) too if the Dweller didn't play it's full hand immediately. To lull the player into a false sense of security. Basically have it have a "pissed off" meter. The higher that meter, the more likely it is to do shit like crawl into holes and climb. So like the first few encounters, it stalks you, chases you briefly, and then goes away. At first, it stops if you dig into 2x2 holes, and doesn't climb up after you, it just disappears. After a few more encounters, it crawls after you. Then starts climbing up to you. And then, at long last, breaks blocks to get to you, following you out of caves onto the surface, etc. The more you piss it off, the more relentlessly it hunts you down.
Few minutes in and hearing the first "cave" sound just made it so terrifying and I love it. Props to the flashlight-looking torch ui. It adds more atmosphere like every other good horror games.

I guess it just glitch sometimes Yeah it's a glitch, you can see in the video he does it and sometimes doesn't, also the animation doesn't play too
@@germans_lol7259The lack of animation in this video is because of how these specific shaders are set up. They aren't optimized for custom models like the cave dweller, so the animations just stop working.

I feel like there should be another similar mob, but one that dwells in forests and is only active during the night. Similar to the skinwalker and rake legends.
What would be REALLY cool, is if only one person could SEE the dweller too! Not just one person hearing it, but also only one person seeing it! And having the Dweller being able to climb stuff too!
watching the original modder and watching this now is unsettling for some odd reason but an amazing mod and a great content creator playing it is legendary
I absolutely love your channel. I have two things to say. With this video definitely needed more torches/candles. And secondly, please make more 100 days of hardcore videos. I miss watching the ones from 2 years ago. Literally love your content
This mod is super cool, it really makes you feel like your being stalked at all times. It's on par with the Amnesia games' feeling of being stalked. I could do without the music and regular mobs though.

@@cagedteethI think the “bland and silly”-ness of the model adds to the horror. You could expect it to be a big of spooky scary ultra horror monster, but it’s instead just a tall fleshy thing that runs at you. Much better for theorizing on in my opinion.
@@mrghast7949 its supposed to have animation but it seems to be broken in this video for some reason
biggest minecraft mod yeah sure lmao, there is no way this beats JEI
What I love most about this mod is that it takes all the concepts of the Phantom that never got used to make an incredible and actually creepy mob
playing this in a "all cave world" would be terrifying
literally free roam, that'd be sick
Yeah, wondering why the animations aren't working properly in this video.
Frankly for all the hype I would've thought the design for this monster would be a bit creepier.
I knew it seemed familiar! Glad to see he hasn't slowed down at all
I love that everytime Sean tries a mod and fails, he instantly turns to Robert and Kim.
Yeah he always likes friends to be terrified with I suppose.
I really wish Gargin gave it the ability to climb because you can easily kill it in the same way as the iron golem by just building. If it could climb the mod would be way scarier.
Imagine giving it the ability to be on any surface and a chameleon cloak so it mimics the color of the blocks it's on 😈

“I’m not afraid of this thing anymore.” Moments before it jump scares you, then you die.😅😂
I like how sean keeps looking away making the dweller despawn at the worst moments
Ive played this mod before, and when i tell you it’s terrifying, that is an UNDERSTATEMENT. You can hear the sounds but its so hard to see. And when it sees YOU, the sound and the visual is enough to make a grown man cry. I never went mining alone ever again LOL

@@ConoratorYou’re right, that’s my bad 😅
I understand that proper punctuation and long words can immediately be registered as disrespectful or argumentative, and I don't want you to see me in the wrong light as a result of that preconception.

this man's devoid of afraidness is even scarier than the Cave Dweller
I'd combine this mod with mods that remove regular vanilla mobs, restrain caves into the more smaller and tighter classic like caves, and also force you to go into caves as it only has ores near caves.
Goofy ahh world tho
