- A while back, our Animal Care Manager, Kasey, wanted to test the various capabilities of various substrates so we could breed superworms here at Zen HQ! The results...well you just have to see the CRAZY amount of superworms we now have!
Kasey tested 6 different foods to breed superworms. 4 of which were commercially available diets, one being just oatmeal, and another being chicken feed with some added vitamins. Which diet do you think resulted in the MOST amount of superworms?

My two dragon boys love their super worms and hornworms. They never move as quickly as when they see their snack coming towards them. 😊
My beardies favorite snacks are meal worms and duiba roaches. She’s an ADDICT! She never wants to stop munching on some bugs lol
For anyone that is planning to start a breeding colony, find a local feed store to buy from. You will save a ton of money over the "commercial products" that you find online or in stores.
I have Geckos, African Fat Tails, Crested and Peacock Day. My husband has a Pacman frog. Nothing gets our "babies" moving like Dubias! Its so much fun to sit back and watch our crew chase or stalk them.....Other than Miss. Pac who sits and waits for them to come just close enough. As "empty nesters" getting back into reptiles has brought hours of entertainment to my husband and I.

My beardie and all of my geckos really love their crickets and dubias but my beardie absolutely LOVES her superworms
I have a house full of reptiles & they all have different favorite snacks! Adult black soldier flies are my chameleons’ favorite. My beardies go wild for hornworms. My flying gecko leaps across its enclosure for silkworms. Everyone loves dubia!
My beardie, frogs, and tarantulas have no preference! If it wiggles, they love it!!

My beardie loves him some horn worms. He also eats jumbo meal worms and crickets. This is so awesome of you guys to do and such a neat experiment.
We also have your enclosure and he loves running around and playing. Definitely one of the best investments I’ve made for him.

All of my reptiles have different favorites! My beardy LOVES super worms, my leo especially loves meal worms, both of my cresties prefer dubias and crickets, my dart frog obviously loves fruit flys, and my trio of mourning geckos will eat anything that moves from fruit flys, pin head crickets, tiny dubias, and tiny meal worms and super worms. I love providing a variety for all of my reptiles!

My bearded dragon Copper just recently tried hornworms for the first time and he LOVED them, but mealworms are probably a close second.

My reptiles absolutely LOVE superworms!! Their favorites are probably wax worms or hornworms though. As for breeding insects i’ve had really good luck with superworms living on oatmeal for substrate and to kinda munch on and i feed gutloading vegetables and one of my little tricks is BEE POLLEN!!! It makes them so healthy and full of vitamins, also they seem to love them! I’ve really found that variety and vegetables like squash, zucchini, carrots, and greens such as collards, turnip, and mustard greens. (i feed everything listed to my super worms and the beetles as well and i’ve noticed doing variety and adding bee pollen really made a difference and they seemed to breed more and definitely seemed healthier.)

My picky eater as no specific favorites, he only picks one type of bug a week and it’s up to me to figure out which one! Never know what he’s feeling till he picks. He’s spoiled but I love him. Can’t get enough of those Goliath worms though.

Our beardie hasn't had a variety yet. He grew up on crickets. Trying to wean him off that to veggies. No luck yet with that. He's under a year. But he has tried a superworm and kinda liked it. He also seems to like peas. But as time passes, he will be given various veggies to try his pallet on.
My bearded dragon Dumpling's favorite snake has gotta be superworms and hornworms. Though she also loves more berries (blueberries, strawberries and cherries). If im not fast enough putting the worm into her cage she tends to just up at the tweezers to get it.
Oh man anything and everything. My Pac-Man frog has no dislikes. My leopard gecko goes nuts for any worms. And my BTS likes to try new things.
Omg bug frenzy! My reptiles and hedgehog love all buggies ESPECIALLY super worms and dubias. (They can’t decide which is better😂)
What can I say? I have critters who eat anything. :) Even the dead ones get eaten. My hermit crabs just adore freshly deceased insects of all kinds.

Our Crested Gecko loves anything bug! Even the poor cuc isopods 😆. My most picky frog is currently interested in only dubias and catapillars. Crickets and worms are sooo last week.

Looks like you are having fun! A few days ago some peafowl showed up in my front yard. I gave them some rolled oats and some dried mealworms. I found out that peafowl love superworms so I picked up a few at the pet store. They were fighting over them! I may have to start raising my own.
We absolutely recommend raising your own buggies if you have the time and space for them! 💚

RawKnee, my sweet Bearded Dragon loves his Dubia Roaches and Phoenix Worms. He’s only six months old, so he eats A LOT of bugs! Also, I LOVE watching him eat. It’s so cute!

My beardie pum0kin goes absolutely bananas for Dubias. I put down a hornworm. Superworm. And dubia several times and each time the roach goes first! She knows good healthy food ^_^
And its interestinf you mention about the feed and care of bugs my dragon actually does have specific bugs she likes from certsin people. Really interesting when you figure put what they all feed differwntly!
I have 3 bearded dragons. My oldest loves bell pepper my middle baby loves horn worms and the baby loves superworms
I have 2 beardies Mango and Kevin my male mango will eat just about anything as long as it moves! My other beardie i got from a bad situation and im trying to encourage her to eat and are trying many different things and buying for 2 can be quite a lot especially if we want them to last a while. Mangos favorites are probably hornworms 😂 and kevin we arent really sure yet were slowly getting her to eat and drink and praying she makes it through!

I really enjoy how information is this video is a lot of videos skip over the biological facts behind each step you take. Right now the two bearded dragons that I own are both rescues. One of them was being fed dubia roaches before I got him he absolutely loved them, my other rescue has yet to try them but she loves darkling beetles on occasion.

Yes! Kasey has tried both options before but prefers the chicken feed mix!
