This song makes me cry every time I hear it! As my mom was dying, she told me to find my talk. An Abenaki Woman. Her parents We’re from odanak Reservation.
I cry every time I play this song. I may have blonde hair and blue eyes. But deep down I’m still red man inside. Thank you mom and dad for teaching me my cultures.
These lyrics make more sense than 99% of all lyrics that are now playing on UA-cam and on the Radio. If the Canadian Government does not set value on your languages, they are not the socially advanced country that I thought it was.
@@SabakaJunglay I don’t think that will solve anything. Infighting amongst races and classes is how hegemony of the west was created by the British elite class. The proletarian need to come together with indigenous people, not further subdivide based on arbitrary origins.
This song A L W A Y S makes me F E E L so deeply. I cry, i smile, i simply just enjoy this song soo much. I have found the voice that was T A K E N from my grandfather and rekindled the fire for our culture. This is an empowerment anthem in our home 💞💞
It is full of power. Kalolin sings it with so many love and feeling. My thoughts to all Native Americans from Germany. I love this song. Your youth can be proud, by god, so proud. Don't give up.
The world needs this wisdom....The Eagle Condor Prophecy...Such powerful spirits. We need this, its unbelievable that greed and power has caused us to turn our back on the connection to the earth and that there is so much pain on this planet, I really think the only way to turn this around is through the languages that have been lost and through the people that haven't forgotten their connection with the oldest ancestor, the Earth. Thank you for doing this.
thank you very much to all who went all out for this video. Gramma is looking down on us with that smile that could wash away your pain. I miss having tea with her. She always kept me grounded to do right in this world.
Support our young people. All of them - with no exception. Water is life. Language and identity are one in the same. If we don't know where we come from, we can not determine what direction we have been moving in. Our elders are our communities greatest assetts, but for far too many generations now, we have cone to regaurd them as a nussance, and in our own last years, been lead to believe the same about our selves. There is no truth in it, however. Stay true to the Good Red Road - and we will walk together - un-divided - un-broken - and un-afraid to see better days ahead.
I'm latino with white, african and native american blood in my veins and I know the importance of preserving native american cultures. They are the few ancient cultures that still know the importance of loving Mother Earth and live in harmony with it. If western societies want to save this world and not destroy it we need to be more like them, like the native americans. There is no other way around.
Just fabulous! Gives me great joy to hear you sing, especially in your own precious language. When you drum and sing out over the land it is so moving.
This is beyond amazing , are there more songs they have done ? We are Mi’kMaw , all really was lost with my great grandmother . She was taken , over the border to Maine for school. What we know is she was married to a reverend at 15 . Had my grandmother , and died when she was about 28 . Hysteria treatments in an institution. It’s my purpose remember , and document the oral traditions and learn the languages I can. Would utterly love if I could reach out , and possibly see if my network may offer a way to reach more who want to participate and help . Watching this , in 2021 and now we have evidence of thousands of children’s bodies around these school . Breaks my heart , my great grandmother was never hysterical or insane. She was torn from her family and horrifically abused…we can’t go back and help . I can here and now for our future ❤️ Thank you for being such a inspiration
Such a beautiful song and video of the culture of the Mi'kmaq and how the rules of our ancestors affected the Mi'kmaq and also the lack of support they continue to receive . I couldn't even begin to understand how much it has and still effects Indigenous people. Our children need to learn more in school about their cultures and how our ancestors affected the lives of past and present generations and the generations to come. There is still so much to learn and change that needs to be made to try and heal what our ancestors caused and so many continue to do.
Each time I watch this, I see something new. Two things stand out for me at this time: the first being the glimpse we get of the red dress and the second being the strength and connectedness of the young people to the earth. They walk, dance and sing with power and purpose.
Incredibly powerful and beautiful song, and awesome musicianship. You make me believe that youth will lead the way to better understanding. So, so moving. Thank you.
no worries, we're being taught our ancient languages in our dreams, for real. rainbow family have arrived, big love for all true, from big brother blue
This is wonderful and thank you to Carter Chiasson and Ronnie Martin and all of the students and folk that put this together. It's a powerful message of healing. Thank you.
Nanaboozhoo, aaniin. Well done, it's truly a terrible thing what has been done to the First Nations and seeing the new generations taking up the mantle is not only heartwarming, but also brings hope that a better world can be achieved. I know it probably doesn't mean much coming from me but miigwetch for this. There is some of us out here doing what we can to revitalize some of the native languages that were so cruelly taken from you all. Keep up the great work and never EVER let them take away who you are! Baamaapii miinwaa kaawaabmin! 💪

I love this, it is amazing! Would you be able to make a remix, especially in 2023, with more of the First Nations man singing in the background? It would be nice to have his voice heard a little more here and there in the song… in the background with the rapper especially! The song aches to hear more of his voice and the drums! Your language is the most important thing for both retaining and binding your culture - do everything you can do to retain it! Destruction of culture and assimilation is as old as time itself, it has been happening in Europe for centuries. Some minority cultures have successfully fought back, in particular the Welsh, Basques, Irish and Catalans.
Sometimes I think about Rita Joe. In 2006 I went to the Mi’kmaq lodge and we have a privilege to go to her house. It’s was very beautiful. The experiences while at the Mi’kmaq lodge had changed my life. The people that were all there were incredible beautiful. One of many things they’ve taught us was to write stuff down on paper. That lesson alone help with my life big time. I cannot thank her or everybody else that attended and the workers at the Mi’kmaq lodge. 🧡👒🪖🪶
