I liked this little short. I know its a bit on the nose with its metaphor, but I think it works. The society in the short cannot have romantic connections without people becoming damaged, so they take a suppressant. Some people can't take the loneliness in the safety and risk everything for human connection. Its pretty telling how valuable it is when he doesn't seem to regret what he lost.
So, when you give yourself to someone, you loose part of yourself. The longer you're together, the less of you is left. And when that person leaves you for someone else (which they tend to do) you find you've lost the person you once were. Being alone doesn't mean you have to be lonely.
I love that his boss advised him not to go on the date but when he does anyway she seems jealous. Kind of reminds me of people who tell you not to follow your dreams but admire famous celebrities and actually wish they had taken a chance...
Taking a chance doesn't work for most of us. Lotta famous people were born into it, like born into a rich or famous family. But I understand what you mean about being jealous of what people have but most of us have no luxury of that a choice in the matter
I know tens of couples where the girl is taller and that includes my parents but I don't find it suitable for me to be with a girl where I can't have her under my wing or look down to her eyes. I think it would limit the interaction level, but many people make it work.

I'm vegan and even I don't buy into this pet crap. I see these beings for what they are. Pets do more harm then good. Actually, it’s Larry Hankin from Seinfeld, Malcom in the Middle, as well as “Breaking Bad” (in several episodes). AND I just found out that he’s also Mr. Heckles. Turns out he’s quite old and has been in a LOT of TV, films, and theatre. Multi-talented guy. Born in 1937, which explains quite a bit.
