Things are coming along nicely. I live in South Carolina in the US. Our planting season is in about two weeks in my area. I am trying a three sisters garden which was used by the Indigenous people of North America. Hi Martijn. As a retired plumber who worked with lead piping, flashing and beating lead collars as an apprentice; I highly recommend that you dig up the lead pipe, remove it and replace it with pvc (plastic) pipe!!! Lead pipes will put lead into the water and thus into you if you are drinking it; as well as your skin absorbing the lead also. Lead builds up in the body and is an insidious contaminant that will affect your mental faculties. Please consider this and replace the lead pipe. Richard from Down Under

This landscape and its people are so beautiful. I walked a part of the GTA years ago with two friends. Through ghost towns full of cats, recaptured by the wilderness. It was magic. Somewhere in this area (we could see the Mont Blanc in the distance on the french side) we met an old couple, both in their 70s at least. Strong and healthy people. They waved from afar once they saw us and invited us to have some coffee. They only spoke piemontèis, at least we barely understand a word. But they were so nice. They lived there in a small cabin most of the year with some cows in the stable right next to them. No comfort, pure and spare. Probably the most happy people i ever met. We bought some selfmade cheese and continued our trip. I will never forget this day. I hope they are still there on their mountain, happy and healthy :)

To make good compost make two piles, fill the first with grass, wood chips, leaves, ash from the fire and add some worms making sure they are covered, after 6 months turn the first pile in to the second opening to airate the mix, start adding more waste to the first location and leave over winter covering with a tarpaulin to keep the heat in. once you have gone on for a year you will get nitrogen rich compost and a supply each 6 months. any organic mater from your cooking also throw into the mix.
6 month is too long for my taste If you have a full chamber and you turn the pile once every 4-6 weeks it will compost much faster so you have hot phases more often and also a much better oxygen supply which very is important with ash should be careful because of the high PH level! too much ash does more harm than good! in the garden, for example, a teaspoon per plant is quite sufficient Ash is good if you compost a lot of sour material to raise the PH but of course only use ash from untreated wood

woooo woooo, the third person to view and the first to comment. Just want to say thank you Martjin, you are an inspiration to many of us. Love your content.
Do people actually care who viewed/commented first lol
Martijn every time you are going to do this hikes be sure to tell somebody where are you going and when you’re supposed to be back!
At the end of chapter 1 there's a beautiful view of Mon Viso with its 3841 m peak, which is also the source of the river Po (longest river in Italy)
Richard from Down Under
Agreed. Rome had lead pipes. Well know they went insane.
Er, I believe, if you watch carefully, that he said he wanted to replace the lead pipe - presumably for exactly the reason you stated ...... !!
I thought he said he was replacing the damaged lead at the head of the line only. I will look again and check. Thanks.
Andy, you're correct. Martijn said he would redo the line and leave it above ground and dig it in later.😁
The only content on YT that i go full screen on my TV. Great work Martjin. Your shooting style is uncannily close to my own. Seriously proud of your achievement, many will have no idea the effort and patience req to achieve this level solo..
My wife and I have been captivated watching you every week, what you are doing is truly inspiring. I have to keep reminding my self that there is no film crew and you tell such a great story, it is like we are there with you every week, I am totally in awe of the way of life you are living, makes me want to move from our oh so safe life in the uk and go live a simple and sustainable way 😊 Thankyou again Martin keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing the crane in action, some of those roof slabs look mighty heavy!!
I am totally obsessed with this journey. I am in awe of everything you are accomplishing, Martijn.
The best,a lot of work, but l can only imagine the happiness and satisfaction in your soul after a day's work 🙏🙏 your such an inspiration 🙂even a 70 year old like me.God bless
Your cinematography is incredible. The audio is a big part of the video. You must spend a lot of time thinking about your shots. Great job!! Love your channel
One concept from me: maybe twin doors in cabin is a good way? Outer wooden and inner from glass? This tip means: one window more in building. : )
I had a friend who said the shrinkage of timber was the joy of it being alive !!!
Holiday houses in the middle of that valley, such a lovely spot. Martijn you are simply amazing what you are doing. What an achievement. Love your videos. So professional.
A WONDERFUL PLACE TO CALL HOME, AND GREAT COMMUNITY HELP. SO BLESSED! Updating this comment on Oct.27,2024......Its so humbling to go back, to see the roughness of the land and how its changed. The Progress and so much completed now. WOW..... A house & land transformation it is🙏🙏🙏👍👍🔧🔨🔧Well done Martijn.
In love with your channel!!! Everything is so relaxing and inspiring. Nothing plastic about it, nothing entertainment. Everything real... (although being realistic you must be walking up and down with the camera a 100 times to give us the feeling we are watching you (smiley)).... And then your visitors... no over the top introduction just organically they slide in the story line.... Like life itself. Thank you so much for your content!!!
Cinematography @ 6 minutes is hauntingly beautiful & transformative
Isn't that just paradise. Thank you Martijn, another beautifully edited video.
i feel lucky having stumbled onto this channel. cya next time ☺️
A wonderful idea to volunteer some help while doing
some hiking in the mountains!👍🏻👏🏻more people need
to help each other like this!
I’m addicted to this series. Fascinating. Thank you for taking us along your journey. You are so talented!
Brilliant. Watched all 14 videos in one sitting. Thank you…. Beautiful work. Fantastic project. Made my Covid isolation most enjoyable.
Keep well. I’ve just tested positive today also, I feel your pain. True these amazing videos help somewhat.
So nice of the young Italians volunteering and also the gift from the two fans, very heartwarming to see that. The drone shots just get better and better, especially at the end along with the music. That drone sure can go high in the sky! Looking forward to the next one.
Another amazing video by Martijn!
I’m always amazed by the scenography but also your natural narrative in your video. I can’t imagine how long it takes to shoot all the content and then to edit it. Well done mate and keep it up! 💪
In such crazy times for the world, it is such a relief to look at something that is sane. I look forward to your show every week - it calms the mind, and helps remind myself to stay busy with living. Thank you for such a wonderful gift to so many! Your adventure inspires and brings to us all something "good" in a time when "good" is lacking. Peace to you - to all of us.
Beautiful video 🍾. I am a bit concerned about the trailer situation. Since it has already been bent past the limit where the steel alloy deforms, the overall strength has weakened severely. Just be careful with the weight on the trailer now. 👍🏽 Keep it up. :)
Excellent! I can now enjoy my coffee and breakfast on this cold Sunday in Sydney.
As Italian hearing all the “comments “ from your help crew was quite funny 😄
300kg in 6 ce la facciamo?? Ahahah
@@zapataboy9377 I too laughed. I only know a couple of words but you Italians swear so musically.
I enjoyed the swearing too...! We Italians need to swear a little...
I am enjoying watching you fix up your mountain home. It is so beautiful. I look forward to watching your garden grow and your continued improvements to your place.
Thank you for showing the designs so far for the house! The masonry oven sounds amazing and perfect.♥️
This kind of vlog deserves a million subscriber....
Great to see another video this week. It's really coming together. So nice to see the couple who left you a bottle of wine. 😁
I agree with Dan’s comments that your films are the best. I am in awe of your drone footage. How kind people are helping and leaving gifts. So much to be thankful for and especially thankful that we the viewers can be part of it all.
This is the type of content I watch youtube for, You bring the calmness that's much needed in this chaotic life. What makes you different is how surreal it all feels, It's like we are there with you on your journey, not just showing the final result but also the whole process. I love your content, and I hope you all the best in life, Thank you for blessing us with this content.
The freedom that your videos convey...
I have no words, only wonder
The drone shots are amazing. That switch back road is wild. Love trying to find you on the trails from the drone perspective. Always looking forward to the next episode. Stay safe, my back aches just watching each video 😱. From a fan in Ottawa Canada 👵🏼🇨🇦
I would say your series is a form of art. Love the slow pacing.
Love that mirror frame, it goes well with the wall!
That final drone shot. Wow. 👍😘🏔️
YES, go for a masonry stove; I'm sure Johannes can help you to make an Austrian-style Kachelofen 😄
Maybe with back boiler pipes through which water can flow, giving you hot water.
I well remember such a system in a Scottish Croft on the isle of Mull
or a stube.
I enjoy your video each week to see what you are doing next.
Hello, Martijn! Just what I needed: a trip to your incredible Alps! So peaceful and unbelievably beautiful. You continue to amaze with your ambition, creativity and skill. Thank you so much for sharing this journey. I am so loving watching it all come together little by little. As usual, the aerials are stunning. Looking forward to next time! Love from USA
Very hard to find words to describe all you are sharing, Martijn!
Again and again, Thank you!
And of course, waiting for your next video!
Most worms enjoy coffee grounds too. Perhaps they too like the java jive!
@@joellenbroetzmann9053 Cardboard too 😉 they love Cardboard
some layers cardboard on the ground an they will come
6 month is too long for my taste
If you have a full chamber and you turn the pile once every 4-6 weeks it will compost much faster
so you have hot phases more often and also a much better oxygen supply which very is important
with ash should be careful because of the high PH level! too much ash does more harm than good!
in the garden, for example, a teaspoon per plant is quite sufficient
Ash is good if you compost a lot of sour material to raise the PH but of course only use ash from untreated wood
I agree with all these praiseful comments. Your work is a joy to watch. And the scenery is breathtaking. Thumbs-up 👍 from Rochester, New York.
Respect man ! 🙏
Good job with heavy groundwork and good filming and editing ! I see the effort ! Thank you for sharing with us ! 🙏
this staircase is a masterpiece.
