Donny McCaslin counts among the american jazz saxophonists as one of the absolute border crossers. At the latest since he played a decisive role on David Bowie's last album "Blackstar" and helped shape its sound, one knows that this musician not only knows pure jazz but also looks far beyond his own nose. For the encounter with the Frankfurt Radio Big Band he took one of his most important musical companions with him: pianist, keyboardist and arranger Jason Lindner. Since being named "Rising Star" by the US magazine "Downbeat" (2015), he has been one of the most interesting big band leaders in New York City.

Donny McCaslin zählt unter den US-amerikanischen Jazzsaxofonisten zu den absoluten Grenzgängern. Spätestens seit er am letzten Album von David Bowie „Blackstar“ entscheidend mitgearbeitet und dessen Sound mit geprägt hat, weiß man, dieser Musiker kennt nicht nur den reinen Jazz sondern blickt weit über seinen Tellerrand hinaus. Für die Begegnung mit der hr-Bigband hat er einen seiner wichtigsten musikalischen Weggefährten mitgenommen: den Pianisten, Keyboarder und Arrangeur Jason Lindner. Der zählt seit seiner Auszeichnung als »Rising Star« durch das US-amerikanische Magazin »Downbeat« (2015) zu den interessantesten Bigband-Leitern in New York City.

modded 120/0 . van doren 3 .. that wheezy dark sound is all him. and a tight old SBA . lots of slamenski and long tones too.
