NO more Mess!! This is the simplest mess free DIY way to change your own lawnmower oil, rototiller oil, ride-on lawnmower oil, jet ski oil, scooter oil, motorcycle oil, pressure washer oil or ATV oil. Takes 60 seconds! Great for changing the oil in anything that is hard to drain. Most lawnmowers today have no drain plug. Uses are endless. Super cheap to make and saves you money. Makes a great fluid extractor.
NOTE: NEVER USE THIS TO SUCK UP GASOLINE !

this is revolutionary. you have saved about 80% of the work, parts and problems of using an external container to collect the fluid. well done!
This demonstrates how genius is often found in simple solutions
YUP... hey Steven, is it possible for those modern jerry can gas engineers, to come to this 'mindset' ??? just sayin.....
Blown away by the simplicity and utility of this idea! And don't understand why 264 people gave it thumbs down...jealousy???
One of the best tips I've seen here on UA-cam in 2019.
Thank you for this great video!
Thanks for that!
@@chrisnotap - Payed like $1.50 for the vinyl tubing at store and going to do this for my snowblower here soon!
Putting it inside the vac was a total power move.
Thanks Chris! Genius! My Dad always told me that if you want to become brilliant, then hang with people that are smarter than you. Therefore, I’m a subscriber now!
Old adage, "If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the WRONG room."
Genius, pure genius!
Thanks for NOT starting with a long silly intro, or drama.
Why am I just now seeing this YT algorithm?? This is beyond brilliant!!
I am “blown” away by this!!! There really are simpler ways to do difficult things. When I change the oil on my riding mower it’s a TOTAL MESS. I am going to be doing this!!!!!
I thought the first version was pretty terrific, this one is pure genius! My only complaint: I should be able to leave more than one THUMBS UP 👍👍👍👍👍!
Thanks for that!!
my thoughts exactly!
Pure stupidity at its finest!
Do explain how this is stupidity? I think its smart myself.
@@chad7585 You do not get the crap out from the bottom of the crankcase/oil pan like you do when using the oil plug on a motor with a plug/pan or small engines that say to tip on side to drain out the fill spout! use your head and think about it! Lol
This just simplified maintenance to another level
Now I know why some people aren’t playing with a full deck! You have some extra cards!!!
That comment put you in the lead for best ever comment!
You have no idea how much this helps. I have a generator that is a nightmare to chance the oil. This will be perfect. Thank you for sharing.
Get the Bigboy Topsider.
Great solution - the oroginal system can also be used when installing new toilet mechanisms in toilet tanks to get ALL water out of the tank before removing the external nut that typically allows dribbling onto the floor.
Good thought, and yeah, just did that, finishing with some wet towels to wash and dry afterward.
Great Idea,,,,, so no $h!t.
That's a great idea! Every fall I have to winterize my parent's cabin. I hate having to use a ladle to remove the water from the tank and bowl. This will make that job so much easier. Thanks for the suggestion.
I’ve watched this video about five times. It’s so simple and easy. And such a great idea. Gearbox, tiller, lawnmower, ........ and so much more
All of those can be a mess to change their oil! Not anymore!
I like your idea, I have used this suction method for some time now. In addition to pulling out the old oil, when I get done I slip the oily hose end in a bottle of soapy water mixture for a few seconds and it cleans the entire hose. No oily drippy mess after the oil change.
I love the simplicity of this system for changing the oil in my lawn mower - and hopefully, my snow blower!
Holy crap.... that’s so simple and genius.. wow way better than what I have been doing. THANK YOU.
Thanks for that!!
Awesome Idea. I recently made one by substituting a 90w oil bottle top for the 2 Liter soda bottle top. No drill required, just a razor knife. Worked flawlessly. Thanks for the video
I've been doing small engine repair for over 35 year and never would of thought of this.
The older equipment had drian plugs but alot of these new mowers and especially generators don't have drain plugs. They say about to tip the equipment over to drain the oil, we that's just a mess in most cases.
I will be trying this very soon.
Great video thanks
Wow! Maybe I'm not as hot with a shop vac as I thought. I got a genuine gray matter giggle from this idea. Thanks
What an awesome idea man!! Can’t wait to try this on all my power equipment! PURE GENIUS!
Holy crap, the pop bottle adapter was what really change the game for me. It just occurred to me. I could use this with one of those cheap bucket vacuums.
You are a genius! Figuring out that inside the vacuum the pressure is constant and does not compress the bottle was impressive! I have a huge problem with the oil-draining plugs in my riding lawn mower. Now, I will be able to even change my transmission oil without any trouble. Thank you for sharing your wisdom amigo.
Thanks for that!!
THANK YOU, CHRIS! This video is fantastic! I just made one of these systems for less than $5 and it worked great. Normally changing the oil on my lawn mower is a giant, messy PITA. I was able to change the oil on my mower today with zero mess this time . What a genius invention! I wish I could like this video multiple times. Great job, sir! 👍🏼
Wow! Thanks for that great feedback!
Good as always, glad to see you making improvements. Always on the ball ! Thanks Chris
This is pure genius. Such a time saver and also keeps these type jobs clean! Awesome for replacing power steering and brake fluid.
Wow. I’ve seen kits over the years, with vacuum and attachments. Most everyone has a shop vacuum of some sort and an empty 2L. I actually have a spare vac. because I upgraded. Now I have dedicated syphon/vacuum. So simple. Awesome!! Thank you
I've said it before: Something that is both simple and effective is simply brilliant. This will help and facilitate for many people. Thank you, I follow your channel with great interest and have never been disappointed.
Thanks for that!
This gadget is so simple, but so effective. But I would never have thought of it....thank you....works amazing time after time...
Awesome!! I have a lawn care business and have been tipping my push mower over to drain the oil into a pan for 25 years such a messy pain in the ass.thank you
You're a great instructor! I really appreciate your clear explanations! Thanks!
Awesome idea. Great video. Can't wait to make one for my 12 gallon ShopVac and use it on my pressure washers.
This was awesome. I followed your video after stripping out my mower's drain plug trying to remove it. Worked like a charm! I'll do this every time now.
Thank you so much for posting this video, I've been trying to figure out how to change the oil in my Lawnmower and Generator, and made a huge mess everywhere, but My Good Sir made life 100 times easier, and I couldn't be happier with your tutorial. Awesome 🤪🤙
Awesome! Your first version was a great at idea and this one just added to the idea much more convenient. Thanks.
Chris,
Always intuitive. Love it.
Wow even better than the last one! I just showed my dad this video. He’s just getting ready to do oil changes on all his power equipment so he was pretty glad to see this clean solution to a messy job.
That's great! Thanks!
Just helped changed the oil in all my dads mowers. Stupid easy! We didn’t have a pop bottle but a piece of 1/4” plywood and duct tape worked just as well. Only issue I had was I put the hose a little too far into the container inside the vac and a little bubbled over even though it didn’t over fill. Tiny spill contained in the shop vas is not a big deal compared to the alternative. Plus now I know better so next time will be mess free😁
Brilliant idea. I love it and will be using it on my next oil change of my pressure washer. I am a retired plumber and would have been able to use this system quite often. Thank you for another great idea and solution to everyday life.
Great idea. Trying to remove oil from a lawn mower is one of thee most annoying and messy jobs Ive had to do. Great method and well explained. Thank you!
Thank You! That was worth a year or more of hit and miss on my own!
Awesome trick, less hassle and mess and it forces me to clean out my shop vac.
Genius!! ...and perfect timing, as I have to change the oil on my mower and snowblower tomorrow. Thanks brother!
Chris, used your setup and it worked GREAT. for the Snowblower and the lawnmower. THANK YOU.
Worked like a charm. Put a gallon jug in a shop vac and stuck the hose in it. Not one drop of oil spilled anywhere. Thank You for sharing this. Just a tip. When done, stick the 1/4" poly pipe into the other end of the 1/4 inch vinyl tubing to prevent any dripping while storing.
That's a good tip!
Gonna build this set up tomorrow.......thanks for the video, and idea....I have the same exact shop vac....will make it WAY easier and faster.
Thank you for sharing!! I hate to think of the number of years I didn't change the oil in my mowers, tillers, generators because I didn't want the oily mess and the gasoline running out of the carburetor trying to get all the old oil out of the engine. This device should be hanging on the end cap in the small engine section of every retailer.
I found this channel because of the simulated smoking bits and am very glad I did. You have become one of my favourite youtube channels!
I'll be doing this next spring to my Lawnmower and thinking of you while doing it. Love folks like you on youtube that make my life easier.

Should do it now. The combustion causes oil to be corrosive so having it sit in there isn’t ideal. Maybe the cold makes it relatively insignificant. Get er done sometime anyway
@@paulyuneps7428 OK, will do!
Outstanding video, I’ll be saving and sharing it.
This is fantastic! Putting the bottle in the vacuum had me like OOOOMMMGGGG! So freakin simple but changes everything!
That is what happened with me when I got the idea...it was the ah ha moment!!
That's a great idea!! Omg, I'm so gonna take advantage of this idea. Lol. Thanks for taking the time to share!😁
You learn something new everyday , thanks.
Brilliant idea! I love the way you think!!
This is my annual Chris Notap appreciation message. I made this last year and just used it again this year. It is the fastest and cleanest way to change my lawn mower oil. This is a genius contraption and I still love it. Thanks again, Chris! 👍🏼
Wow! Thanks for that and Great to hear!
You have outdone yourself. Simply genius! Thanks for sharing.
I learn something new by watching your videos thks
Your explanation is more than perfect, thanks for share your knowledge.
Great idea! Thanks for posting.Small engines are getting to be a pain to service, compared to a few years ago.Simple solutions are the best.
I was contemplating buying a vacuum pump for changing the "top end" or "high pressure" oil in my 7.3 liter turbo-diesel engine. The high pressure oil system holds a total of about 3 quarts. After watching this video, I think I'm going to use my shop-vac. Thanks, @Chris Notap. This is a realy great tip.
Thanks Chris. This will make changing the oil on my push mower a snap.
Wow really a simple invention but very practical! Thanks for sharing.
Looks simple yet amazing. No mess around.
Wish I knew this last fall when winterizing!
Brilliant - way to go and thanks for sharing
This is awesome and practical. Thank you for the great tips! 💯
So simple, its brilliant! 👏👏👍
The best new ideas come from out of the box thinking! I WILL set this up tomorrow morning and see how many things I can suck up!
Just ran across this. This is so useful. I think I will be changing my lawnmower oil this weekend.
Whoa! My mind is blown! 🤯
Awesome I am going to use this to change the oil in my Gen Set!
The original version was already great but this version is a lot better. The oil goes directly into the disposal container. One less opportunity for a messy spill. Thank you Chris.
As a single female who knows very little about maintaining equipment but a desire to do so, you are a Godsend!
As a UA-cam fan in general, you videos are the bomb! You get straight to the point, explain clearly and concisely, don’t waste my time with endless “Uhms “ and “Uhs” and your video editing is terrific...IMHO.
Thanks for that great feedback!! I try to get right to the point in all my videos.
Damn, son. That’s genius. Gonna go make one now and get the oil/rain water mix out of my small compressor!
Very clever and cheap invention. Thank you for sharing!
A little thought: liquids don't like to flow through long narrow tubes. The shorter and wider the tube, the quicker the flow.
Correct. The bigger the tube you can make work, the better. Just makes it faster.
lol what buddy you don't have 1 minute to spare!!!!!With Covid 19 I was thinking on how to slow it Down. Brag to nagging wife, "see honey, I change all the oil in all 3 Mowers, both Walk Behind tractor's and my four Echo blowers and weed eaters... Shhhh's she doesn't know that those last ones do not require an oil change
Chris..Amazing idea. I always make a mess changing my lawn mower oil.. not now after seeing your idea. Thank you 🙏👍🏼
What a great idea! I've used my shop vac for clearing clogged drains; I'm just going to have to start thinking outside the box for all the other possibilities like you did with this. Thanks for sharing!
Brilliant my friend!
I really like this idea. Got everything to make it, sooo, gonna make it and add it to my shop items. Thanks.
I have been using the same principle recently but on a much larger scale (205L / 44 Gal) drum, but did not think outside the square how this could be scaled 'down'. Brilliant. Thanks for sharing. Well made vid as well.
I subbed just for the “No brainer disclaimer”. Good video btw 👍🏼
awesome!
chris notap the science guy!
with the no brainer disclaimer.
I like how the vacuum will suck the dirty oil out of the hose so that it isn't messy when you store. Great idea. Thanks for sharing.
You dont need or want a filter in your vac for oil suctioning. Thus most containers work. Genius plan here! Since I have 3 or 4 old and moldy shop vacs sitting around, I just dedicate one to oil suction full time.
Best one and free, amazing
Less is more. Love your elegant solutions.
Really neat!!! Smart Guy. It dawned on me that this contraption would be great when bleeding brake lines.
Big thanks Chris! Wife bought new Honda mower and it can be a pain to drain. Great idea.
Great revision to the original
Wow, a fantastic and easy idea
Pure genius! Excellent instructions and video!! Thank you!!
Couple months ago I changed oil for the first time, I had to tilt the mower to one side to get the oil out (per instruction manual), by doing so I flooded the carburetor and the headache of taking it apart to fix the issue! Now this is the way to simplify the task! Thank you.
Majid Soltani - you probably tipped it the wrong direction, but i agree it’s a mess! These new push mowers on the market are crappy!
I like the shop vac great idea. Tks
I made one as well for emptying my windshield washer reservoir of summer washer fluid for the winter -40 F . Does a great job for those of us who live in the colder climates
Another good use for it!
Chris Notap , I’m in Canada. Nobody drains the windshield fluid , you just keep adding more . The -40 stuff works in summer too for the same price.
Janet. LOL. Canada eh! Some parts of the “North” are much colder than others.
One of the best diy videos on UA-cam 10/10 keep up the good work, well done👍
Wow! Another great video! Nice job Chris!
I'll be using this to change my differential oil!
Adrian Hdz get a stiff pipe (my gf insists) if you’re going to try even warm 90W
Going to be honest, when you put the bottle in the shop vac, I thought he is going to make a huge mess. Wow was I wrong. Genius!
This really works. Your setup is better then what I've been doing. Subscribed.
You win!! Awesome my man. So fing good. Thank you. A wiper fluid bottle fit perfectly in my 30 year old Shop Vac. Sucked the gear oil out of my rear diff like a champ.
