Never seen anything there myself though I remember a snowy winter ride abruptly going into darkness and more snow being rather eerie! Thanks for doing this! Another place in the Staffordshire area with strange goings on is Park Hall (Hulme, an old open-cast sand and sandstone quarry). There was a multiple witness account of suspected UFO activity back in the late 60s I believe which has witness interview footage on UA-cam and was also covered by the local rag the Sentinel. My family also witnessed it though it was a few years before my time. If there's enough material to make an episode I'd love to see it! Thanks for another excellent episode!
The black dog is misunderstood. Always have people calling it a hell hound. It is called the Gwyllgi in Wales, Black Shuck in East Anglia, Yeth hound or Wishthounds in Devonshire, Skriker in Lancashire, Barguest or Gytrash in Yorkshire, Padfoot in West Yorkshire, Hairy Jack in Lincolnshire, the Moddey Dhoo on the Isle of Man, the Gurt Dog in Somerset, the Muckle Black Tyke in Scotland, and the Grim, amongst other names. But, the black dog isn't just the omen of death like many believe, it is also a protector. Here's a story about a man of his acquaintance who was to journey through a dark wood alone one night to visit a friend: At the entrance of the wood a large black dog joined him, and pattered along by his side. He could not make out where it came from, but it never left him, and when the wood grew so dark that he could not see it, he still heard it pattering beside him. When he emerged from the wood, the dog had disappeared, and he could not tell where it had gone to. Well, Johnnie paid his visit, and set out to return the same way. At the entrance of the wood, the dog joined him, and pattered along beside him as before; but it never touched him, and he never spoke to it, and again, as he emerged from the wood, it ceased to be there. Years after, two condemned prisoners in York Gaol told the chaplain that they had intended to rob and murder Johnnie that night in the wood, but that he had a large dog with him, and when they saw that, they felt that Johnnie and the dog together would be too much for them. The black dog has been known for a very long time to be a protector of women and young girls. Many stories exist, where a young girl had to walk through a bit of woodland on her journey. Right at the entrance the black dog appeared and stayed with her til the other side. Once more it appeared on the return journey. There is always something evil that would happen linked to these occurrences just like the mans story. For this very reason, in Lincolnshire County “the Black Dog is never feared, and indeed is often a protector of lonely women. A dog-ghost has even escorted a woman protectively in Yorkshire because she came of a Lincolnshire family” demonstrating that the true black dog was perceived to have a certain amount of loyalty (and sensitivity to the fairer sex), just like an ideal dog. Me personally I believe these black dogs are protectors of the dead and are guides for those who need it most. Especially those who are lost or in danger. It is always a black dog that is big, it doesn't threaten or attack, simply standsby watching out. I've had an experience with a black dog when i was a child, it was massive. It dwarfed the bench it stood near. I'll never forget the eyes for as long as I live, bright green glowing eyes. We locked on briefly staring at each other. I felt calm and at ease, but I pulled away thinking I was seeing things. When I looked back it was gone and there were flowers in a bunch left on the bench.
There hasn’t been a single video on this channel that is low in quality, you guys continue to blow me away with your depth of research and gorgeous visuals!
I'm so glad to see this episode! Cannock Chase is the creepiest place that I have ever visited in Britain, no sightings to report but it was the pervading malevolence of the area, and I plan never to go back there again. Looking forward to part 2.
I lived near cannock chase for 5 years. Been walking through the woods and been to castle ring. Never seen anything weird. However it is very easy to get lost there if you don't have a map. That story about the woman encountering men in animal skins seems like a time skip story. Very interesting.
This story does seem unbelievable. It appears to be a prearranged fight. Be here, 3.00pm, else your a sissy. Then again, I’ve seen a thing or two that people have generally poo-poohed and my sightings haven’t been nearly as fantastical as this.
@@MrThickDick tbh I think the most likely explanation is that she fell asleep sunbathing, had a vivid dream, and thought it was real. Brains are weird.
I was about to get ready for bed and then BOOM, HEADSHOT, BOOM, HEADSHOT... great; now I'm gonna lose sleep waiting for part two... and love every moment of it! I want more!
In the late 90's, I lived in Crewe and myself and some friends would hang around Cannock Chase through the night with friends, after attending Happy Hardcore music events at Kinectic. We would see a few lights and shadows, but cynically always dismissed as other late revellers. Worst thing that happened was driving and driving for hours and not being able to find the exit turns. Normally would take us 30 minutes during the day to pass through the area
This needed to be twice as long, lol; great work as usual. Thanks! I noticed that this one took slightly longer to be released, I hope you Bedtime Stories guys are all OK.
YES! Thank you guys. As someone who lives in Cannock (Pye Green Road). This is a very much welcome edition. Oh by the way, apparently my mum saw the large dog whilst on a walk with me and my dad. Dad hasn't got a good memory and I was a toddler, apparently this was close to the quarry.
Damn!!! You guys have been putting hit after hit out!!! My God, those have to be the most disturbing accounts/incidents/events I've ever heard! I can't believe I've never heard of this place before! Thank you guys for another absolutely amazing video!!! ❤❤❤ I CAN'T WAIT for part 2!!!
Love this channel, glad to see another video pop up! Btw, for non-UK viewers, a Chase is basically a term for a private tract of land designated for hunting. (hence the term chase, I imagine, as in, the chase).
Thank you from Philadelphia PA! Never heard about any area called Chase. Moors, tors, cairns, dales.. Makes sense that the hunting property is close to Castle Ring...
Just like the new forest. Although the new forest was for royals and the nazis planned for it to be the hunting grounds and home of the elites and top SS.
I drive through the Chase often at night when returning home from my girlfriend's and it can be very eerie. I often expect to see something strange but usually it's just deer.
My favourite by far this Bedtime Story channel, I search and listen to others but always end them before I sleep and come back to BEDTIME STORIES!! It's the voices, stories and the way they draw you in knowing your going to enjoy every little bit!!
I grew up in the 70’s on Wimblebury Rd. Not only did I keep going on about ‘that baby & the ball’ (Alien in my room?) as a 2 year old; there’s some strange stuff on that Chase. One time my Dad lost me for 20 mins in there, as a Toddler. Kept shouting for me: but I never heard him. It really is a creepy place at night. Great episode!
I grew up wandering Cannock Chase and still run up there regularly. As many others have commented it is uniquely beautiful but also uniquely unsettling, especially at certain times and places. Quite a lot of the folklore is local tittle tattle - but it's a liminal space where the boundaries of our reality are thin and without doubt there is some crossover with who knows what.
SO happy to see a new video! However, I love falling asleep to these, and I’m not super loving the loud sounds at the end. I’d love a blooper video though!
I genuinely love falling asleep to these videos and I have been for years! But this new thing of putting loud and abrupt jokes is killing me. I love the stories and I keep coming back to finish the videos but when I fall asleep just to be startled awake, it makes it hard for me to enjoy the soothing sound of Rich’s without fear of hearing him yell minutes later.
Ok they must have edited it out because I can't seem to find what people in the comments are talking about. What time do you guys hear/see whatever it is you were scared by?
Looking forward to part 2. All the stories were interesting but the one of the lady who seemed to have traveled back in time to witness a fight between the Carnovai (I'm sure that is misspelled) and the dragon like creature. That one was the most interesting.
@@Wavey1988 we talking about skin walker? Or the chase? I know the show they have going on, where the security guy Dragon puts on his tough man face and randomly proclaims everyone's safety and wether it is okay to continue, or the guy sat in his chair getting excited when his toys captures something happening. That there is supposedly, well potentially a UFO underneath the ground. Frustratingly it has taken a ridiculous amount of time to release in UK so I'm not caught up on the hilarious developments.
Kudos to you for another awe inspiring and interesting story of the crypto and supernatural surroundings of the UK. I'm curious if Cannock Chase could be the United Kingdom's version of Skinwalker Ranch in the United States; both having a variety of cryptic, supernatural, and possibly alien encounters within the area as a hotspot. I like the scene of the researcher Johnson hiking in the woods taking notes just before he encounters the 3 other hikers and their mysterious tall fourth member. In that scene, you can see a large shadow lurking in the woods a little ways behind Johnson, who is not even aware of it. What that foreshadowing his encounter with the that mysterious fourth figure? If that's the case, it was well drawn as such. It didn't look as a causal shadow in the woods. Very interesting.
My guess on what other weird sightings that could have also happened there: Dinosaurs Giant bugs Gargoyles Flying humanoids Giant birds Lizardmen Alien big cats Werewolves Giant snakes
I'm so happy to see Cannock Chase again on Bedtime Stories. My parents and I (mostly my parents) would walk over the chase pretty much every weekend and sometimes in the week, as my parents wanted to keep fit. But...one day, they mysteriously stopped walking over there....... GOTCHA DIDNT I?🤣🤣 nah they stopped because of work and things going on at the time. I walk past one of the entrances, on the way to work
I find English History so intriguing... the fact that there is so much of it dating back so, so long ago. I could imagine there are so many imprints in time all throughout England.
Who does the artwork for this channel? They are extremely talented! I feel like the artist(s) plucked some of these images and characters straight out of some latent memories or distant long-forgotten nightmares from my youth. Exceeding well done!
Cool, I've been to the Chase twice and I won't ever go back, the first time I was overwhelmed with dread and dizziness we had to leave and the second time was no better and I saw spirits of airmen
In early October, 2023, I was stranded on the edge of Chasetown as one of the tyres had ripped right through on my car & I didn't have a spare! I had called the AA at 18.00 for assistance. The evening turned into night still waiting. Its now 3.00 am & I couldnt rest as I was anticipating their arrival. About this time, in the far off distance over some trees, I could see a bright light in the sky. It wasn't moving just hanging there. I thought at first it could be someone operating a drone, but it stayed in the same position for at least an hour if not longer. No idea to this day what it was.? Recovery arrived at 5.00am. 11 hours later!! Also, a family that lived near by offered me a blanket to keep warm & then brought me out hot tea & biscuits throughout the evening. There are still some great caring people in the world! It was nice feeling to be going home, but a much warmer feeling from the kindness shown to me. A happy memory of the area.👍♥️
The Spindley Armed creature referred to in the video reminds me of an old book I once read as a youngster. It was called "A Casebook of Ghosts" by Elliot O'Donnell. And had gone through a few re-issuances over the years. My copy I think, was dated as having been a reprint of a 1920's or 1930's copy, made in the late 1950's think. But in it. O'Donnell recounts some of his own personal experiences of such things as ghost encounters and cryptid creature encounters dating back to the turn of the last century. One of those is a recounting of his either witnessing or having personally interviewed a witness to a similar creature that was said to haunt a certain crossroads. And about how it attacked and chased after a group of farmers driving a cart load of hay. Seemingly trying to grab them with long spindly arms and possessing unnatural speed. With it being stated in the story that its touch was known to led to the death of ANYONE, it came in contact with. Now I'm not certain of Elliot O'Donnell's provenance, and I sincerely hope I'm spelling his last name correctly. Because it has been the better part of 28 years since I found and read his book. But I think that in it. He professed to be one of the earliest people that he knew of to pursue what we today would call paranormal investigations. Right at a time when such things as "mediums" ,"table turners", and "spirit writings" were envogue and before there were such things as television, air travel, and the telegraph was still somewhat new.
I remember in the 1960s. I was about 6 or 7 years old & there was children abducted from Walsall & taken to Cannock Chase & murdered. The man lived in flats opposite the police station. Perhaps that's why theses stories about children with black eyes come from. As kids in the 70s we used to go to Cannock Chase on our bike's. I've never heard these stories before.
There's a large cat lurking on the Chase. Seen it twice. Just off the 'Penkridge road' in Rugeley and near Walton-on-the-hill respectively. Both times it was around 8pm in winter.
I live in this area and though I have never seen any cryptid activity there are areas that me and my partner have walked about in that have made us physically uncomfortable and one area in particular that we both felt real fear and terror in and this was during the day. As the broadcast says it is an area steeped in a long history and sadly murders as well so I would say it is highly plausible that the past meets the present here. It is a beautiful area for a walk but also be advised some areas are not nice to be in and at least one body of the murders up cannock chase has never been recovered
awesome video. i've been watching a few of them from the day i first found your channel. lol im obsessed with your content and have gradually got my significant other into your videos as well, now we both cant get enough!
Went walking in the Chase recently after hearing tales of black eyed kids and werewolves. At one point the most overpowering wet dog smell occurred with no explanation. the path was deserted, but the woods alongside were deep and thick. The smell came back about an hour later. Was it a wet werewolf lurking in the bushes? Probably...
Some BRILLIANTLY spooky stories from Cannock Chase!! 🙂👍 The Castle Ring event was certainly very dramatic (loved the illustration!) But not very historically accurate (if Castle Ring is indeed an Iron Age formation) as Iron Age people did not wear nothing but scruffy skins; nor did they fight with primitive weapons made of antlers. I love the idea of a dragon in the UK though! 😏 That spindly figure sounds FAR more spooky though: and a lot more authentic than Slenderman! Were he wearing a tricorn rather than a homburg hat, I'd say it was the ghost of an evil highwayman! It seems rather vampiric though: though not as fast as an actual vampire. I'd say that it was another of these harbinger of death kind of beings. Certainly wouldn't want to see it myself!
Many such sites in Britain have a history of extended use over the ages. So there could be other earlier levels of habitation than the one visible on the surface. Has this site been excavated?
I used to live in Stafford, went to Cannock Chase a few times, didnt know all the stories about it back then but it always felt 'off' to me. Then again one of my coworkers was an odd fellow who after a night out in Stafford declared he was walking back to Cannock across the Chase and pulled a pair of nightvision goggles out of his backpack, so maybe its not actually haunted and the stories are just misunderstandings and run ins with the local weirdos!
@@G0ldenFleece whoops, totally wrong direction! No he was walking from Stafford to Cannock. No idea where I got Stone from; But to answer your question, he was walking across the Chase in the middle of the night with a pair of NVG, so draw your own conclusions!
Can't wait for part two! Love this channel! ❤A chilling place and frighting encounters indeed.

It is called the Gwyllgi in Wales, Black
Shuck in East Anglia, Yeth hound or Wishthounds in Devonshire, Skriker in Lancashire,
Barguest or Gytrash in Yorkshire, Padfoot in West Yorkshire, Hairy Jack in Lincolnshire, the
Moddey Dhoo on the Isle of Man, the Gurt Dog in Somerset, the Muckle Black Tyke in Scotland,
and the Grim, amongst other names.
But, the black dog isn't just the omen of death like many believe, it is also a protector.
Here's a story
about a man of his acquaintance who was to journey through a dark wood alone one night to
visit a friend:
At the entrance of the wood a large black dog joined him, and pattered along by
his side. He could not make out where it came from, but it never left him, and when the
wood grew so dark that he could not see it, he still heard it pattering beside him. When
he emerged from the wood, the dog had disappeared, and he could not tell where it had
gone to. Well, Johnnie paid his visit, and set out to return the same way. At the entrance
of the wood, the dog joined him, and pattered along beside him as before; but it never
touched him, and he never spoke to it, and again, as he emerged from the wood, it
ceased to be there.
Years after, two condemned prisoners in York Gaol told the chaplain that they
had intended to rob and murder Johnnie that night in the wood, but that he had a large
dog with him, and when they saw that, they felt that Johnnie and the dog together would
be too much for them.
For this very reason, in Lincolnshire County “the Black Dog is never feared, and indeed is often a protector of lonely
women. A dog-ghost has even escorted a woman protectively in Yorkshire because she came
of a Lincolnshire family” demonstrating that the true black dog was perceived to have a certain
amount of loyalty (and sensitivity to the fairer sex), just like an ideal dog.
❤ this!
So they knew Jonathan and targeted him specifically for what reason? And how did Jonathan find out about this little conspiracy?
There hasn’t been a single video on this channel that is low in quality, you guys continue to blow me away with your depth of research and gorgeous visuals!
I'm so glad to see this episode! Cannock Chase is the creepiest place that I have ever visited in Britain, no sightings to report but it was the pervading malevolence of the area, and I plan never to go back there again. Looking forward to part 2.
I'll go back there with you mush, I'll bring the spam for the hell hound might become loyal to us
I lived near cannock chase for 5 years.
Been walking through the woods and been to castle ring. Never seen anything weird. However it is very easy to get lost there if you don't have a map.
That story about the woman encountering men in animal skins seems like a time skip story. Very interesting.
Or a slip into an alternate universe where dragons apparently exist.
@@nil981or she fell asleep and dreamed the whole thing. Which seems frankly much more likely.
This story does seem unbelievable. It appears to be a prearranged fight. Be here, 3.00pm, else your a sissy. Then again, I’ve seen a thing or two that people have generally poo-poohed and my sightings haven’t been nearly as fantastical as this.
Or, now hear me out, or she completely made it all up and none of it happened. Hmm, yeah that is more likely than anything else suggested here.
@@MrThickDick tbh I think the most likely explanation is that she fell asleep sunbathing, had a vivid dream, and thought it was real. Brains are weird.

Loads big dogs around Cannock mate!
Quarries are just all around bad places.
Walked around there last week, definitely eerily quiet in those woods the opposite side of the road from the quarry and pye green tower
"Chasse" is the french word for "hunt". So it would make sense, I don't know if it's used the same way in english.
Thanks, I did not know that and I was going to look it up myself. We don't use the word here in the states outside of naming suburban neighborhoods 😂
I drive through the Chase often at night when returning home from my girlfriend's and it can be very eerie. I often expect to see something strange but usually it's just deer.
Usually? 😁
Hey, always good to see and hear the usual animals and birds!!
Not in the headlights, though🤔😬

My favourite by far this Bedtime Story channel, I search and listen to others but always end them before I sleep and come back to BEDTIME STORIES!! It's the voices, stories and the way they draw you in knowing your going to enjoy every little bit!!
That was a perfect cliffhanger. One executed so well that you cant help but hate to love
I don't think I have come across a channel as good as this one in the certain genre it specialises in. Literally binged all of it.
I live a few miles away from the chase and even I get scared going nearby thanks to hearing all the stories as a child

I’m always SO EXCITED when a new Bedtime Stories video shows up. Makes my day.
I love watching Bedtime Stories. I even watch it when it isn't even my bedtime!
I'm a grown man and I prefer to watch when it isn't my bedtime.
I watch bedtime stories in the dark....
Oh man! After a long week of overtime I see this in my feed! What a great start tonight!
Woke me up too, super annoyed
😂😂😂😂😂
I can sympathize.
I guess it's one way for the BTS team to judge how many people are watching to the end ....🤫
Exactly. It's disrespectful to the people who have supported this channel for years. Fuck the people responsible.
Ok they must have edited it out because I can't seem to find what people in the comments are talking about. What time do you guys hear/see whatever it is you were scared by?
That sketch of the four walking w the strange entity in the back is so awesome
Looking forward to part 2. All the stories were interesting but the one of the lady who seemed to have traveled back in time to witness a fight between the Carnovai (I'm sure that is misspelled) and the dragon like creature. That one was the most interesting.
Cannock Chase basically is the UK's version of Skinwalker Ranch
But, for the paranormal instead of portals and aliens 😂

@@ryanfreebody6881 exactly
@ryanfreebody6881 Oh, there's alien stuff too. There was even supposedly a UFO crash there
@@Wavey1988 we talking about skin walker? Or the chase?
I know the show they have going on, where the security guy Dragon puts on his tough man face and randomly proclaims everyone's safety and wether it is okay to continue, or the guy sat in his chair getting excited when his toys captures something happening. That there is supposedly, well potentially a UFO underneath the ground.
Frustratingly it has taken a ridiculous amount of time to release in UK so I'm not caught up on the hilarious developments.
@ryanfreebody6881 The Chase, 1964 it was 🙂
A perfect spot for a cliff hanger!!! Thank you BTS for another great story!!!
Cannock Chase seems an interesting place, and one I'd love to go to if ever in the UK.
Nothing happens there on a common day
I'll be waiting for part two, I'm excited already. The story of the dragon like creature was my favorite.
Great artwork and narration, as always, guys. The slender ghostly being reminded of The Babadook. I will be waiting for part two.
Just saw Part 2 of the Near Missing 411. "You vil own nassing." 🤣 Love it. Catching these has become like a treasure hunt for us.
My guess on what other weird sightings that could have also happened there:
Dinosaurs
Giant bugs
Gargoyles
Flying humanoids
Giant birds
Lizardmen
Alien big cats
Werewolves
Giant snakes
You can never use Bedtime Stories to sleep anymore because you'll never know what the after-credits will bring hahahahaha! I love it so much.
I don't know what people are talking about. I'm not seeing anything.

This is fantastic work. I sometimes have to preface things with a statement. Come part two, I will repeat it here, with no preface.

Now all we need is a dinosaur sighting, a giant insect sighting, a winged humanoid sighting, and a lizardman sighting in Cannock Chase.

I think this is one of the best you’ve done guys
Also, a winged bat-lizard? There is only one word for that kind of animal:

I remember in the 1960s. I was about 6 or 7 years old & there was children abducted from Walsall & taken to Cannock Chase & murdered. The man lived in flats opposite the police station. Perhaps that's why theses stories about children with black eyes come from. As kids in the 70s we used to go to Cannock Chase on our bike's. I've never heard these stories before.

The Castle Ring event was certainly very dramatic (loved the illustration!) But not very historically accurate (if Castle Ring is indeed an Iron Age formation) as Iron Age people did not wear nothing but scruffy skins; nor did they fight with primitive weapons made of antlers. I love the idea of a dragon in the UK though! 😏
That spindly figure sounds FAR more spooky though: and a lot more authentic than Slenderman!
Falling asleep to this can give you some trippy ass dreams.
