I start this video by offering a brief playthrough of the intro to Polly by Nirvana on the acoustic guitar followed by introducing myself with the following phrase; 'My name's Aaron, I've been teaching guitar about 17 years, studied music in London and now run my own 1-2-1 guitar teaching business in Bath in the UK'.
Next, I walk you through the three primary power chord shapes that are used throughout the song; shape number one is an open position 3 note power chord, shape number 2 is a closed position (moveable) 3 note power chord starting on the low E string and shape number 3 is a closed position (moveable) 3 note power chord starting on the A string There are chord diagrams for each chord displayed on screen as I teach these. I then touch on guitar muting technique which is a fundamental part of guitar playing and featured heavily in this song.
After that I go through both sections of the song methodically and show you how to how to piece it all together with respect to the strumming pattern, the muting, the chords played and general accuracy. Section 1 covers all intros and verse and section 2 covers every chorus.
