3 things worth noting: 1) She's been playing since she was something like 12 years old. 2) After she tried dropping off recordings in Nashville, and getting no response, she decided to play 4 hours and day and song-write. 3) Her current guitar teacher - Paul Sidoti - is the same guy that has played with her since 2007. You can tell how long they've known each other by how they play together on stage. Every once in a while, they exchange a "isn't this cool?" look, and it means more when you realize that they're real life friends, along with the guy that she brings with her on every tour for the past 17 years. That's a TON of trust. I think she's not only a completely under-rated musician, but (as others have noted) fantastic at playing and singing.

Cool, thanks for sharing. I think many musicians have a story that's similar to that. It normally starts with rejection followed by years of persistence that nobody really sees and eventually ends with success in varying degrees.

I truly envy people who can only practice 15 minutes a day and still progress. I have put insane hours into guitar. The first few years I didn't have a teacher and that was before the internet lol. I developed so many bad habits and despite it all I thought I was really good. Everybody seemed to be impressed with my skills. Then I saw a real guitar player in person. Dimebag Darrell. I didn't even like Pantera at the time but watching him play in Memphis made me feel like a gigantic piece of s**t 😂 That was around 1999/2000. I have a Washburn Dime guitar they all signed. Dude I have played going on about 20 years now and I don't get better unless I play several hours spread out in the day. I've gotten better and I can improvise and shred but also learned classical and all kinds of stuff. But to get where I am I had to play A LOT. They say Randall Abbout aka Dime played like 24/7 growing up. Supposedly he even played on the toilet. He always said that's why his riffs are the shit. I honestly have put in pretty close to what I imagine he did. Time amounts I mean. I play hours a day even after work. It isn't practice to me though. It's just calming and fun. I have Asperger's (high functioning autism) and playing guitar is like a fidget stick to me. I rarely ever use an amp. I have them but I just sit there playing quietly on my electric Washburn unplugged while watching movies and stuff. Sometimes I wonder if there are other people like me who play just to keep my hands busy even when watching movies.

I'm glad you finally managed to find a routine that works for you, nice one! The 15 minute thing is really for people who don't have a lot of time but the might want to just learn a few basic campfire chords for their own amusement. Glad you got to see Pantera with Dimebag, the guy really had his own way of playing and a killer mid-scooped tone to go with it. And I still love the solo to Domination after all these years 🤘

Meh, there is a big interpretation with good here. She is in my opinion not even an average player. Just banging chords and finessing that is not difficult skill to learn. And you are talking about her guitar playing, but giving kudos about the background vocals/ stage lights? Just call it let’s be positive about Taylor swift. Yeah she is a good lyricist but not a (good/ pro) guitarist that’s just dumb coming from a guitar teacher.

I make them feel good about themselves so they want to carry on learning the guitar.

@@CarringtonGuitarAcademy sorry if I came over a bit harsh. Didn’t mean to make it personal. But I’ll own up to it; I was a too long time a below average player because everyone found me great and “good” player. I didn’t have incentive to learn/ continue on my guitar journey since I was thinking I was “good”. Till I stepped in the spotlight with other musicians and found out what guitar playing / music actually is. I think it’s always helpful to show the bigger picture as a guitar teacher. And I get the title name is important ect. But yeah being nice is nice.. but not much more than that.

@@david1guitar1 No worries, it's easily done! That's fair enough, everyone will have a different guitar journey. I see different categories of learner, some just want to strum a few chords, some want to play their favourite songs and others want to be able to play wedding gigs or do sessions. You're certainly right that one of the best things any would-be professional musician can do is hit a jam night and play with other people. And you're right, UA-cam titles do have to have some kind of pull or else nobody watches the video and you're banging your head against a brick wall trying to gain the tinniest bit of traction. UA-cam in itself is also a journey and I'm curious to see where it leads.

She’s pretty good and has played a long time and singing. Does Taylor know her theory. Yeah, but I doubt she looks at what someone’s playing and knows the exact note. But she knows the root, & whether it’s a major or minor. Which is essentially all she needs. If you watch her play most of her songs, she plays the same chords. Maybe 5-7 chords. And she moves the capo to keep from going all over the fretboard to do what she wants. After all, she’s singing and dancing at the same time. So she’s really talented. As for open chords, it’s smart. Alex Lifeson of Rush made a living off them. Changing from an open chord to another completely different chord, may be just a finger away. Taylor’s doing good. Real good.

This is just fan service for Taylor swift fans. I love her personally and like her professionally but the truth is she's a technical disaster on guitar. She is incredibly heavy-handed with her right hand and her strumming is clumsy and unrefined sounding. She really needs to work on creating more finesse with that right hand. Olivia Rodrigo, who I like even more, also really has to work on her technical guitar playing. It makes an enormous difference that you might not notice until you hear a capable guitarist. Nevertheless, I've got enormous respect for taylor.

When I make these videos I put myself in the chair of a compassionate guitar teacher and ask myself how I might react if she was one of my students. Sure, there are some technical areas she could work on but I like that she uses the guitar and get's it in front of people rather than not considering her popularity.

she is a flawless rythmic guitar player. I realized this when I, already having a lets say intermediate guitar playing level, wanted to cover some of her songs on acoustic while singing too. The strumming patterns she uses, as well as the palm muting combined with the more ringing open chords when choruses arrive, make it no joke to try and play like her. I think she is a really smart player, may be not the hardest or brightest techniques, but sometimes making just the right moves to make an acoustic guitar suit your voice and match the songs’ needs is all you need, and she is the perfect example of it
