My mom was a punk rocker in New Orleans in the 80's. Had stories for days, not the least of which was partying with Joan Jett one time. She married an accountant in Arkansas after she got out of the Air Force. This is 100% my mom, minus the regret haha love ya mom
It’s me also. Every detail down to my name lol. Crazy! 🔥
i like your mom:)
Woo pig!
“Who’s the other guy that’s singing in Van Halen” is such an underrated line. The replacement of David Lee Roth with perceived as nothing short of unforgivable blasphemy at the time. The controversy was huge.
And people were upset rightly so, Gary Cherone is lame.
@offbrandfiji6487 yeah execpt In 85 it would have been sammy haggar that replaced lee roth
I love this song; it is so true! In 1985 I was 23, got married in 1986 at 24, first kid 1988, second 1992. I wish I would have savored more of the 80's before rushing to become an "adult". Not that I didn't have a lot of fun, just miss it. The world changed too fast.
'85 was an Incredible Year... gotta get a Time Machine
A Hot Tub Time Machine!
It shows just how you imagine your life one way? And it never end's up like it whatsoever! I still love the line? ''When there was music still on MTV.''...So true! It's a true memory lane song!
1985 was Awesome!!!
In my opinion this song is deeper than looks. It's a song about a common human psychology trait that most people go through on mostly a subconscious basis. Basically as we get older at some point we decide that "this is the stopping point and anything after this is next to meaningless". That's why we have "old" people yelling "that isn't music" when they hear a new song. That's why we still dress in certain fashions and still listen to certain bands. We all have a "time frame" stopping point and most people don't even realize it.
Don't remember where I heard it but, anything invented before you were born is normal and natural. Anything invented before your 25 is the way of the future, anything after that is weird and abnormal.
Well the way we produce music has changed a lot too. A lot of singers use voice changers and edit the way the song sounds post production. So its less their talent and more of their editor and stylist. It doesnt help that only a few actually get highlighted on social media or the radio and such.
They are likely still more talented than your average person but its not quite the same. Like we praise students for getting good grades but that should be expected. You shouldnt be expecting them to fail all the time. Why bother taking the time to teach them then? You should expect them to learn and grow in skill while listening to the educators teachings and practicing the material. I think most people understand they wont learn everything they need to or suddenly become massively skilled at something over night or after one class session.
We focus a lot more on how the musical artists look rather than how they play these days. Its like a requirement that they look sexy or appealing. Image has become a major factor these days. I think its slightly important as a means of getting yourself known but not as important as the skill and talent required to actually naturally sing or play music. Even back during the begining of mtv they played music videos to show off the artists. They still sang a live performance on stage in the studio though. So it was more clear that they werent just editing it afterwards. Then as they say reality tv came in with its gameshows and such. Thats when things started to change. How we shared new music and entertainment had changed too. Now we have again changed as most musical and film based entertainment is being streamed on online streamng services like hulu, amazon prime, paramount plus, disney+, and netflix. Most people I know only watch live television or cable for a few channels now including the news. Heck nickelodeon had the kids choice awards and nick at night which was about the closest thing to the original mtv we saw on tv. Disney channel had its celebrity comercials and music videos in between programs. Cartoon network even had some movies and music videos take up some slots at some point in the days programing at one time. If I was busy and couldnt watch the newest episode of my favorite show as a kid they did repeat episodes or I might record it on dvr or a vhs tape. Yes vhs tapes were around when I grew up still.
I haven’t thought of Bowling for Soup in years. This brought back a lot of memories, fun ones at that. Thanks!!
The official video of this song is great as it captures the meaning of this song in a funny and yet very real way ! Please check it out soon 👍🏻
Most Definitely 👌😁
Thank you!!!! I knew with a band name like that you would get to it eventually. You have to see it live. The video is the song.
Great song, and for the record, 1985 was the greatest year in human history. Any child of the 80’s can confirm. Good reaction, guys.
Missed it by one year...1984.
@@seansmith5826 Funny, my wife and I have that debate occasionally, and she would agree with you. I go 1985, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1981, 1982, 1980, 1989, 1987, 1988. But they were all pretty good.
Something to make the people nostalgic about this song feel really old: this song was released in 2004, so next year this song will be as far back in time as the year 1985 was when the song came out.
Ahhh, the 80’s, I was 16 in 1985, those were truly the days!
Fun fact, Bowling For Soup sings the theme Song for a little cartoon on Disney called Phineas and Ferb.
Another one you might like from Bowling for Soup is High School Never Ends .
It's so true ... "I want my money back."
this song is precisely me!! I graduated in '85..... you MUST watch the video to really get the whole song!! LOL
Oh yeah that was a great year. except I did get a hand on John Taylor from Duran Duran. I goosed him at a club in NY. yeah....good times. 🤣
I graduated in ‘85 and this hits. I like the lyrics on this because you’re not distracted by the stuff on the official video. But the original is worth the watch.
Love bowling for soup. Check out ohio(come back to Texas) and my hometown. In the music video, the woman who plays Debbie is the girl who shook her a$$ on the hood of white snakes car in a music video
I saw them in the UK in the early 2000's in Barfly, Cardiff. Great gig for a tiny venue.
Such a great nostalgic song. Good choice. 👍
Whenever you listen to bowling for soup or blink 182 you have to watch the videos 🤣
You gotta follow this up with “high school never ends”
You need the video with this one, absolutely.
you really have to watch the video for this one, understand they are dressing up as different 1985 bands and artists.
Love this song. My mom graduated high school that year
Haha they could've written this song about my wife. She was a head banger back in the day.
Need to watch the music video 😂
People forget that in 1985, we were preoccupied with 1955 (Elvis, James Dean, Back to the Future, 50s cars, etc)
You have to remember us 80's kids would love to go back to then she had big plans for her life that we all do when we are teens then real life happens and it sucks
I like the line when did motley Crue become classic rock that's when it hit me oh my soul I'm getting a little older to me that's what that song was about except she was stuck in 85 I enjoy your guys reaction
@asiaandbj11 thank you, I don't know what DM means, I'm the guy who grew up with no computers so forgive me thank you for recognizing me I enjoy your guys' reaction the most I'm now starting to watch your guys's movies, I hope one day you guys will react to Elvis Presley Love me tender live in Vegas with both of you watch it I think BJ would get a big kick out of it as well as Asia again thank you I wish I knew what these new technologies is
I love the reference to Video Killed the Radio Star. First MTV video
Much love to you both!!!
Check out ‘Girl all the bad guys want’ by Bowling for Soup as well. PS these guys had the funniest music videos if you can find a way to play them.
I know that often you can't react to a music video without it being blocked, but I would recommend that anyone who hasn't seen the video to this song should check it out. It's hilarious.
This song hits so different almost 20 years later 🙃🙃🙃
You needed to see the video
The 1985 Chicago bears with Walter Payton and the fridge and one of the best teams ever
I really liked these guys, seen them live a bunch of times and they're always entertaining!
Now listen to this songs counterpart - Stacy’s Mom.
AND when you finally find something worth watching on TV... the whole hour is like 5 minutes of the show, and 55 minutes of damn commercials!! My grandpa gets so irritated when the cable company plays so many adds, and it's the company that clearly you already have. LOL
they are from my home town Wichita Falls,Texas
If you hadn't started this channel, what would be your favourite music now? Stuff released this year or the music and experiences that brings fond memories of your formative years? That's what it's all about.
It's nostalgia.
Got to see them, they are hilarious
You guys should react to highschool never ends
I think it’s like take me back to my senior year in high school before all the real stress of life starts
Revisit Traffiic: Glad/Freedom Rider or Low Spark of High Healed Boys or Dear Mr. Fantasy or Feelin' Alright. (Studio versions.)
^ This guy is still living in 1985. Good times...
Actually i think this song talk about when u become an adult that change from teenager to adult like all those crazy thing u imagine u would be doing n then u r in a office with a apple pie life n u lived those memories with the songs u liked at that time
Oh yeah, this song was overplayed back when I worked at Pizza Hut lol. Totally remember this hit of theirs. Reality TV is dumb, so is drama. I'd rather be stuck in the 80's. Good movie and artists suggestions for you both to react to. Madonna in 1985 was busy being in the film Desperately Seeking Susan of which she did the popular song "Get Into The Groove" and did two songs for the film "Vision Quest" called "Gambler" and "Crazy For You." Bruce Springsteen was doing his "Born In The U.S.A" song and was busy touring the States, Duran Duran was touring internationally in other countries while making the only James Bond film music hit "A View To A Kill" Breakfast Club film came out in 1985 (Pretty In Pink was 1986), St. Elmo's Fire was also in 1985 and John Parr did the theme song called "St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion)" for it. Wham! (George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley) did the song "Freedom" in 1985 among other hits, White Snake was around but most popular in 1987, Sammy Hagar was the other guy singing in Van Halen and went solo afterwards. Debbie Harry left Blondie and went solo sometime around 1985 and the band U2 was living life at the top of the charts. Turned 5 in 1985...Bars! I hope you enjoyed this informative comment yall haha.
VH1 classic still has those videos lol
well! it was a great year!
My daughter, who is now 30, saw these guys on Van's Warped Tour when she was 15 or 16 and got these guys autographs on her arms. Kids. 🙄
"Almost" is another fun song by BowlingFor Soup you guys might want to check out, but this time do yourselves a favor and watch the video. ;-)
In the original SR 71 version of this song they straight up tell you why it's 1985.
(A rubber broke)
The band is Bowling For Soup the song is 1985
Love the HAT!!!! Detroit!!!
To think the time between 1985 and the making of this song is the same time as between this song and now. Feel old yet? I'm 36 and saw this band in college.
The downfall of sitcoms was the writers strike which caused the reality TV B.S. they didn't want to pay the writers so now that's what you get reality TV
It really was a good year lol I miss the 80s
Great request from Sean G. ❤❤
Yes it was!
You really need to react to the official video. It adds a lot to the humor.
Class of 85 here.
...
Woo.
They sing the Phineas and Ferb theme song too.
This song hits different in your 30s 😂
I wish you would have reacted to the actual video
This reminds me of my school
They are Dallas guys FYI. Lead singer lives in Lewisville
You need to follow this up with Stacy's Mom by Fountains of Wayne
Please please do many more BFS reactions! I love y'all reactions. Y'all are incredible.
Thank you.
The video is hilarious 😂
DENTON TEXAS' OWN BOWLING FOR SOUP!!!!
Easily the 3rd best pop punk band...
In the world!
If you liked this version, check out the original version by SR-71. Bowling For Soup changed up some of the lyrics that change a lot of how the song goes.
ua-cam.com/video/-sy8ulwexfY/v-deo.html
You HAVE to watch this video....
I feel like Jersey Shore was the beginning of the downfall of America! 😂😆
But really!
Aww you guys missed out by not watching the video!
Try 1985 from Paul McCartney
The year i graduated.
Reality TV is less expensive to make. Not paying big celebrities.
SR-71's Mitch Allen wrote this song and has his own version of this song.
Captures GenX perfectally. I mean, whatever...
Love them check out more...
You should watch the official video. It stars Tawny Kataen as the "housewife." And she just happens to be the "girl who shook her ass on the hood of White Snake's car" in their 1987 video _Here I Go Again._ Tawny passed away in 2001. RIP.
Tawny Kitaen died in 2021, but that's not her. That's Joey House in the video.
@@chrismorgan9153 I'm glad you told me that. I've always thought that was Tawny Kitaen reprising her role.
@@robertanderson6929 Honestly, I thought it was her, too, the first time I saw the video. Then, I noticed the hair. No woman has ever had a head of hair like she did...lol. I can totally understand why you thought it was her 🙂🙂.
SR-71's version is much, much better.
Do high school never ends. Music video from bowling for soup
Started with Jerry Springer. The drama and disfunction was and is what people love. Alot.of people have to have that drama to live, for real. TV is garbage has been for years now. People love to see people Fail!! That's why everything is Dramafied!!! People love to compare ones life to others and say"im better than they are!! Horrible
Now people do the same thing with social media, but now there's a game called Clout chasing , and most of that is dangerous due to try and one up someone!!!
💚
Please watch the official video. You’ll laugh
Got see the video.
Great reaction!! Are you going to react to the new Tom Macdonald song?
react to depzman - life cut short
Reality shows are cheap to produce. Sitcoms are expensive. To many actors and writers need paid and production costs. Reality show you pay the winner and maybe a cheap host.
GUYS: The BAND is called 'Bowling For Soup' the SONG is '1985'....
they from lubbock
They're from Wichita Falls, I know a couple of them.
Wrong video :(
