I first saw this band in a pub late 1970 something performing the Face to Face album. I was hooked and followed them around many Sydney pubs. Bought all their albums. The Angels were powerful, dynamic and different they knew how to engaged a pub crowd. Doc Neeson sprayed water on me and some of the crowd one night....The Angels and many other Aussie bands established Aussie Rock in the pubs. Thanks for the memories..RIP Doc.
@17:50 that was important to the fans because in our minds, while Rick and John wrote most of the lyrics (Doc's input was phrases and lines here and there from how I understand it), what really made the band was Doc's on stage presence, his showmanship, his performance, and of course his voice!
They played up at Newcastle end of February 24 I was visiting a friend we talked Angels history. We decided Doc was simply unbeatable we love them all !
Agree. I felt Buzz's frustration especially considering he was the only one who did not make a cent in earnings in that original contract. John Brewsters contrariness leads me to believe it may be him who diddled Buzz all the way back when. The way John B was talking it's like he wanted all the say and money because he is a song writer and Buzz is "only" the drummer. It's not right. Buzz is absolutely right, the contracts need to be open and fair or else management could (and has so many times) rip the band off. Even Taylor Swift wasn't immune to management - the reason she is re-recording and releasing "Taylor's versions" of all the early albums.
Im an American Indian who grew up in the 70s , and this was my number 1 band and still is , back then even as now people say "who in the fuck is that! And i say ANGEL CITY , I GREW UP IN A PLACE CALLED PORT ANGELES !!!!! TOTALLY FUCKING AWESOME
Brewster bros would not allow any other band input into money, rates, gig dates, you name it Brewster bros screwed the band over, destroyed it, no one else could question anything
Met Doc outside the Raffles in Perth before the gig.. Great show and he was a genuine bloke... at the end of the gig myself and mate were asked back stage and enjoyed the after party with the band ... Doc was shattered from the show... All were friendly and we just had a good time..
The ANGELS, ROCK... one of there favourite places for gigs was the Sylvania Hotel amongst many other Sydney clubs and pubs, awesome to see Doc singing..
Adelaide was the mecca for Australian bands in the 60's and 70's. The Angels, Masters Apprentices, Paul Kelly, Cold Chisel, ACDC, Redgum. And in recent years Hilltop Hoods, Sia, Guy Sebastian. Incredible musical culture.
Omg the maturity level with everyone concerned. The order of the songs just shouldn’t have been an issue. As fans we don’t care when it comes on as long as it gets played. The underlying issue was they still held grudges against each other. It’s painful to watch. But also what a great band and songs.
Never let management dictate terms, especially as divisive as that.. John Brewster is the problem there not Buzz !! And brother Rick goes along with team Brewster. I'm with Team Buzz. It's a shame Doc and Chris weren't more supportive.
Thanks heaps for uploading this! i watched this a few years ago on youtube and it got taken down, been looking for it again for ages!!! So cheers AussieTV ;)
Aussie greatest band ,recently went to the palaie theatre in st kilda with Dave Gleason heading the band , so glad I got to see them before we all get to old
I almost got kicked off The Angels road crew for singing that refrain. Their manager came up to me and said “sing that again, you’re out of here!” So when the audience went off with it, I just smiled at him. 😊
We must remember some of the angels are from a film background and this documentary is like the Beatles let it be film. It’s very brave to have cameras capturing the ins and outs of this awesome band.
The Brewster brothers were unheard of before the Angels. The Brewster brothers will never be the be all. DOC NEESON MADE THE ANGELS WHO THEY WILL BE REMEMBERED AS. Two guitars don’t make a band. RIP DOC NEESON.
Those poster guys sometimes took liberties with the council’s precious bloody poles. The established ones didn’t F up, but there were a few amateurs who messed it up for the others. Anyway, pole posters were an iconic part of the music culture at the time, and most of us couldn’t afford the larger media. I remember we even put our own posters up once cause we were broke, and mistakenly put some on the back of the old phone booths. The Telecom FBI appeared at our door and threatened to charge us cleaning fees if we didn’t take them down. Silly us put our phone number on the bloody posters!🤣
I remember when councils put up signs saying "Bill posters prosecuted" We would go around, spray paint them white, and in black put "No he was framed".
How The Angels didn’t blow up like AC/DC is still a mystery to me, every one of their songs is a real banger, and their live performances were incredible.
Love this video! It’s raw , but most of all it’s real! This is life in a band when you’re making your own music and doing what you love most of all. All families have their frictions, the ones that can keep the goal in mind are the ones that survive. If it all gets too much, the option is always there to get f@#*ed and f#@k off!
Super cool. Wow. This is so Spinal Tap, funny stuff. Buzz is right, don't sign anything when you are young and "pissed and stoned". Had the honour of seeing them just the once, in the early 90's, somewhere around Beyond Salvation I reckon. Doc Neeson was in a wheelchair with a broken leg, but they were amazing, utterly amazing.
I Saw 👀 Angel City at The Whiskey a GoGo in Hollywood It Was Two Shows on Saturday Night The Song Take a Long Line Was The Big Hit on KROQ and They Where The Angels 😇 Around The World 🌎 Yet Angel City in The United States 🇺🇸 Great Band
The band ceased to be because the Brewsters got greedy. It’s a fucking disgrace they ever continued without Doc. They were nothing without him then cashed in on the name. The biggest rip off in Oz music history. Dave Gleeson should have known better too. 🤬
Only heard us the “ punters & fanatics “ mentioned once! They should have asked the 100,000 s of us And they would have gotten 1 answer ! Forget the bullshit ! As The One and Only Doc is the voice of the Angels with his unique voice! And they proved that themselves that they were just as successful with other drummers and guitarists! But “ We All Wanted Doc “ So very sad 😢as it was pretty obvious he was in such pain and poor health! I have been through exactly what he was And he wasn’t getting any support nor understanding! As honestly who are you going to listen to when you play The Angels!
when you get a mix of characters that are really hard chargers [like these guys all were, otherwise they wouldn't have had enough grunt to create the phenomenon they did ] you're going to have some big head on's unless you up the skills on how to manage conflict in a positive way ,without it creating a mass explosion that leaves a wasteland .
You notice the Irish and British are very similar in music and when they perform onstage, in movies, etc. Doc Neeson performance, eccentric dance style is very much like Peter Garrett, indeed. Bon Scott copied everything from Stevie, the cheeky grin, the dance, the taste for the good life, the lot. Doc Neeson is Irish and the crowd waves a British flag😂
As a musician, I saw how the manager dude with the dark hair & ponytail acted & thought he was a complete prick & would not have worked with him. John Brewster also came across as dictatorial. Have always admired Ricks playing & of course Doc is fantastic...
I thought this sort of band bickering and behaviour was confined to shitty local punk bands. This is the real deal! Just finished the book now watching this. Great band!

The Angels died with Doc. He was such a superstar!
No Doc, no Angels, miss the big fella so much.

R.I.P Doc. Loved them.
One of the very best … RIP Doc.
Looks like Doc was the only one who was actually hearing what buzz was trying to say

I was a bigger fan of the Angels than ACDC at the time. After Bon died I lost interest in ACDC but I still loved the Angels.
Cheers Mate from 🇦🇺. Glad you like the Angels, they were Awesome
One of Aussies best ! Amazing band
Most underrated band in the world! 👍🎸👍
Best band of all time!

The Epic Angels .. Thankyou for supplying some of the best nights ever of my life
Ooooh the back up vocals are horrendous. Sounds like a country band
DRUMMER WAS JADED OVER THE 1st time he was ripped off. I blame the Lawyers
Excellent video, so raw and real and really shows what a band goes through. I feel like any muso in a band at any level can relate- I know I can!
I always had issues with bloody drummers!! I call them “Dramas”
Incredibly well put together documentary!!!! Amazing, shows warts and all.

Wow... John Brewster is clearly a dark hearted person. He seems so divisive... such a shame really.
Yeah, Rick seems like the nicer person with a good heart. What a great band, and Doc was the star.
Agreed, I'm Team Buzz
John is just sour they hit the heights after he left in the 80's

Between the Angels and Radiators, hard choices, but a mega part of the Aussie sound I grew up with.

One thing about The Angels...they were no angels
