Best Angels song to get the blood pumping. I first saw the Angels in 1980. You can't not be a fan. Throughout the decades The Angels have remained on my playlist. And it was only two years ago that I again got to see them in concert. I once again got to sing the chant to - Am I ever gonna see your face again -'No way get f*ked, f*k off'. Can't tell you what an untold moment it was. So very powerful being surrounded by Baby Boomers all screaming our heads off like we did when we were teens. Magical!!
They are massive absolute legends in the history of the Australian music scene since the 1970’s! I worked as a roadie with many Australian musicians and had the privilege of constantly running across the Angels in many small local towns where I had the opportunity to sit down and have breakfast/lunch with them whilst on tour playing many different rural towns. They are an amazing bunch of blokes and I luckily had the privilege of experiencing Doc Neeson performing at the very last Western Australian concert only weeks prior to his death.
I was working as security at a venue in QLD and Doc got stuck outside a fire exit while the band was playing the intro for the start of the set. I heard him banging on the door and opened it for him, he thanked me uttered some expletives and ran as fast as he could up the stairs and turned onto the stage. Doc was a tall bloke and he smashed his head on the lighting rig and knocked himself out cold. He finally came to and with a cut on his brow smashed out one hell of a show. Makes me laugh thinking of the expression of relief he had to moments later be Knock the F'k out
'Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again' (1976) is an adaption of Status Quo's 'Lonely Night'. Members of both bands being friends. The song, although a crowd pleaser, is not typical of The Angels. I'd highly recommend hearing more of their music. The call and response, crowd interaction is always popular.... When Smokie first toured Australia they were surprised to find Aussie fans had added a question to the song 'Living Next Door to Alice' (Originally by Aussie band New World) (Alice! Alice? Who The F*ck is Alice?)
@@leahgabrielle4255 the above is correct. Found the following on the subject, do yourself a favour and have a listen to Lonely Night. After British band Status Quo discovered numerous similarities between the song and one of their own ("Lonely Night"), the two bands reached an agreement in lieu of a lawsuit that saw Status Quo receive royalties from "Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again".[11] Status Quo bassist Alan Lancaster was friends with members of the Angels at the time of the incident, and lived next door to John Brewster. In 2015, Brewster recounted having asked Neeson whether the song could've been based on "Lonely Night" and recalls a non-committal response: "I might have heard it at a disco".

@@michaelgoyettemusicSinglets or tank-tops here too 👍 🇦🇺 Bald head.. Peter Garrett - Midnight Oil. Plus there was Angry Anderson - Rose Tattoo. Yep most of us have seen the Angels many times. They've been around since the middle 70s. I've seen them in pubs & concerts. Yes they are legendary. The crowds reply of- No way, get f*****, f*** off started in the 80s. I have the DVD of them playing at La Trobe University(gr8 concert!) in September '79 & it predates the crowd chant. ✌️
The "No way - get fucked - fuck off" chant originated in the north-west Queensland mining town of Mt Isa. I lived in Mt Isa for 12 years and it was the most violent town I had ever been in! The Angels must have felt lucky to get out of town in one piece!
The Angels, formerly known as Keystone Angels wrote this in 1977. They would do lunchtime concerts around Adelaide (South Australia) suburban high schools. The call and response didn't really happen till the early/mid 80s..as far as I know.
I was 17 when I went to my first concert in 1980. Angels were headlining and Cold Chisel were the support band. Awesome night with Doc and Jimmy trying to outdo each other, but Jimmy climbing all over the speakers with a bottle of Vodka in his hand was a sight to behold 😄
Yo. Fun band. BTW, I couldn't understand the Aussie accent either and had to take a screenshot when the top was in full view before I got it. I love that they adopted the crowd lyric
Look at that older guy in the crowd halfway through the video with the moe and beard and glasses turned around looking at the crowd shouting "NO WAY GET FUCK OFF" He does look impressed 😂
The band that caused most of my deafness. The song was recorded by them in 1977. This line-up had only two original members. Singer Doc Neeson and lead guitarist Rick Brewster. The band is from Adelaide, South Australia (my hometown). I think the bassist is playing a Steinberger bass.
As a old Aussie it was released like that even on the radio and then some ppl complained about the swearing so they cut it out from the song but we all still sing it like that
When Australians are over seas and they want to connect with other Aussie folk. They go to the pub and put this song on the jukebox. Wait for the response. All Australians react this way to this song. Find your people. 😊
One of the best aussie bands ever I saw them at thebby theater in adelaide south australia back in 86 I reckon and still have a piece of the stage decoration doc threw out into the crowd. Still crank up their tunes everyday.
I grew up on this.. seen the Angels live so many times.. knew they were going to love the chant.. Soo many memories.. funny watching him trying to dissect such an iconic song.. R.I.P. Doc😢
Still love this song. It came out when I lived on the streets in Queensland in my teens. If it came on anywhere at all, I didn't care, I always sang the additional crowds response out loud 😂. Aussie cult classic.
I was on a cruise ship out of Sydney with the entertainment crew being mostly British. They panicked when they played this song and the passengers added the chant. Double checked the lyrics. Weren't sure if they should stop the song. In the end they just let it happen and asked afterwards where that came from.
Wasn't there some great pub bands that went through The Charles Hotel. I was so excited to find The Charles when I moved to Perth from Brissy. Loved going to watch pub bands like Cold Chisel, INXS, Jo Jo Zepp and Falcons. Even Frankie J Holden. These days I love Foo Fighters as do my neighbours lol I just love music. Nothing like blaring rock music. My adult son, shit Mum can you turn it down lol
It is a dark song. Someone started yelling 'No Way, Get F**ked, F**k Off' after Doc asks 'Am I ever going to see your face again'. And it is the worst thing that ever happened to the song. Several times I have stood in the crowd shaking my head as people around me screamed out the profanities. Doc would look at me and sing towards me because I understood what the song was about even in the days before the internet and before I could afford to buy music magazines. For some reason I just understood it from the beginning when I heard the original slow version. Anyway, for those wondering why it is a sad song, here is a couple of lines from Wiki. Neeson said that the song was originally written as an acoustic ballad about grief and loss. The girlfriend of Neeson's friend was killed in a motorcycle collision, and the two friends were discussing life after death. The conversation inspired Neeson to write the lyrics.
The song was actually written as a tribute to a friend who died. The opening guitar riff is mimicing an ambulance siren. A slowed downed acoustic version is just as good. RIP Dic Neeson, you were one of the best!!!
The bass is, I believe, a Steinberger Bass. This is an anthemic song. Any Aussie from that age who hears the song name knows the proper response. It basically became a reflex action.
As an Aussie I can tell you if this song comes on anywhere in Aus it still gets the crowd reaction of " No way, get f'd , f off.. They had some great albums.
These guys played in my high school gym/hall. I had no idea how significant that was at the time, how huge they were. It was Angels + Angry Anderson / Rose Tattoo (I know, right?). Free entry, I mean, we were what, 12? 13? Something like that. Everybody knew the chant, I had never heard it before, but I remember yelling it as loud as I could. It's just so simple and rhythmic. I have no idea how my regional high school in the middle of bumfuck nowhere got these guys to do a show. I'm just grateful to have seen them
"No way, get fucked, fuck off" that is what they are saying, The Angels were an Aussie Pub band and the crowd started saying this at one of their gigs and it stuck, you won't hear it in the recording though. Unfortunately Doc Neeson the lead singer of The Angels has passed away. Peter Garrett is the bald guy from Oz who fronted Midnight Oil.
Its from playing in pubs. Thats where most live bands made their way up back in the days. Unfortunately its hard to find somewhere that has decent live bands now days.
Doc Neeson wrote the song about a friend of his who passed away but not knowing this context Angels fans took it as a break up song, thinking it was about a guy wanting to see his ex-girlfriend and the chant is basically an Aussie girl telling her ex where to go... (Not sure that Peter Garrett, lead singer of Midnight Oil, had much choice about the bald head thing)
G'day folks. As a teenager growing up in Melbourne I saw them at a pub that is sadly no longer here. Sweaty, loud, confronting, and the beers were an absolute steal! I always thought it was, "no way, get stuffed, fuck off."
4:42 The bald guitarist is Bob Spencer.... originally from a band called Finch. He joined Skyhooks (another legendary band you should check out). Over the past few years he was also in Rose Tattoo (ex-AC/DC Bass player Mark Evans also joined Rose Tattoo to play bass.). Bob is an all-round nice guy and has even released his own music during the down times. ua-cam.com/video/MHUo9dyfgDk/v-deo.html
Another great Angels song featuring Bob Spencer is Dogs are talking ua-cam.com/video/lSXYiZsajgI/v-deo.html It's such a shame The Angels (they called themselves Angel City) in the US market never managed to get the US following they really deserved.

Anyway, i'm here cos i mentally said the chant just because i saw the name of the song. We Australians are brainwashed with this chant young. Might have been one of the first times i was "aloud" to swear in front of my mum.
Hilarious 😂
And charming. ✌️
@@michaelgoyettemusic love this song it was a joy to watch you enjoy it!
This was the “Rage Without Alcohol” concert at the Melbourne Showgrounds. Crazy concert which included, amongst others, Jimmy Barnes, The Choirboys and The Angels.
I remember it fondly and recall Doc Neilson climbing the scaffolding and speaking in French before this song.
There was also a live cross to a tv show called “Hey Hey it’s Saturday” where Jimmy Barnes told the host to “F**# off”
Haha no way!?! i'd love to catch that wondere if its on UA-cam, Darrel Summers' face would be priceless 🤣
@@SwayDarlingat 10:39 you can see the moment just after he told them to f-off. Unfortunately it’s been cut out.

I'm from Brisbane Australia its now 2024 I just saw The Angels at Sandstone. And they sang this and the chant was loud like always. Video it too ❤🇳🇿👍😀🇳🇿
Saw them in a club. In a small room this song is unbelievable. Amazing live band.
His shirt has what the crowd is chanting on it LOL. Always loved these guys. Still have their first album. Johnny Winters use to play a small guitar like that guy.
Angry Anderson from Rose Tattoo had a shaved head also.
I noticed that he hasn't got any Rose Tattoo reactions yet. He's gonna love them!
LOVED this song as a kid! When I learned the "extra chorus" I was so proud! My folks weren't tho lol
PS Bald guys in 80s music bands in Australia were quite common - Peter Garrett (Midnight Oil) & Angry Anderson (Rose Tattoo) come to mind 🤟👍😁🇦🇺
R.I.P. Doc Neeson 😢 Thankyou for such wonderful hits! ❤
TBH when he was saying "you know the bald guy..." I was thinking Angry?
Suddenly ❤
Ah, yes. Peter Garrett, former federal Minister for the Environment
Thank you for your service!! ❤️
One of the best Pub Rock Bands in history! Great Live. Check out some more please
Makes me laugh thinking of the expression of relief he had to moments later be Knock the F'k out
Have seen the Angels 3 times in the 80's & 90's.. ❤ the Angels!!
When Smokie first toured Australia they were surprised to find Aussie fans had added a question to the song 'Living Next Door to Alice' (Originally by Aussie band New World)
(Alice! Alice? Who The F*ck is Alice?)
Did you pull all of that out of a hat? The song has nothing to do with Status Quo and Smokie sang living next door to Alice. 🙄
@@leahgabrielle4255
Do you know how to use a search engine?
@@leahgabrielle4255 the above is correct. Found the following on the subject, do yourself a favour and have a listen to Lonely Night.
After British band Status Quo discovered numerous similarities between the song and one of their own ("Lonely Night"), the two bands reached an agreement in lieu of a lawsuit that saw Status Quo receive royalties from "Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again".[11] Status Quo bassist Alan Lancaster was friends with members of the Angels at the time of the incident, and lived next door to John Brewster. In 2015, Brewster recounted having asked Neeson whether the song could've been based on "Lonely Night" and recalls a non-committal response: "I might have heard it at a disco".
thanks for the reminder.. yes .. Alice! Alice? who .. is Alice? :D )
@@leahgabrielle4255 These guys are correct it was pinched from " Lonely Night " and heres another one to put in your pipe have a listen to Jethro Tulls " We use to know " and you will here where Americas biggest selling band got their greatest hit from. Foot note : Jethro Tull was a support act to them.
They are absolutely saying exactly what is on the black singlet that Doc is wearing!
Wait, what’s a singlet and who is Doc? 🤔

Bald head..
✌️
Or if blue Jacky Hows
The "No way - get fucked - fuck off" chant originated in the north-west Queensland mining town of Mt Isa. I lived in Mt Isa for 12 years and it was the most violent town I had ever been in! The Angels must have felt lucky to get out of town in one piece!
Note to self - cross Isa off the list and replace with Gilgandra
The Angels, formerly known as Keystone Angels wrote this in 1977. They would do lunchtime concerts around Adelaide (South Australia) suburban high schools. The call and response didn't really happen till the early/mid 80s..as far as I know.
I was 17 when I went to my first concert in 1980. Angels were headlining and Cold Chisel were the support band. Awesome night with Doc and Jimmy trying to outdo each other, but Jimmy climbing all over the speakers with a bottle of Vodka in his hand was a sight to behold 😄
Chisel opened for Angels? Wow.
Yo. Fun band.
BTW, I couldn't understand the Aussie accent either and had to take a screenshot when the top was in full view before I got it. I love that they adopted the crowd lyric
Not like they had a choice 😂
Great bands ornaments and George leagues club Sydney years ago we had great bands back in my day I'm 55 golden age of music
Thanks so much! We’re the same age!! Cheers appreciate the support. 🙏 ✌️
the number of times i have belted out the chorus whilst drunk is beyond number. A pub rock classic
It’s like every old school rock people would all get together and sing this song word for word as loud as one could and passion lol
Look at that older guy in the crowd halfway through the video with the moe and beard and glasses turned around looking at the crowd shouting "NO WAY GET FUCK OFF" He does look impressed 😂
Bob Spencer on the axe and bald head. Definitely my fave Aussie rock guitarist
The band that caused most of my deafness. The song was recorded by them in 1977. This line-up had only two original members. Singer Doc Neeson and lead guitarist Rick Brewster. The band is from Adelaide, South Australia (my hometown). I think the bassist is playing a Steinberger bass.
Aussies knew what you were talking about re the chant the second we saw what song it was! Lol
That chant alone could be our national anthem here! Lmao
Saw the Angels in venues right across Sydney many, many times. The pub shows were the best.
I first saw the Angels in about 1978 at Cabramatta(?) Them and the oils were the best pub bands to see back in the day.
The Angels are awesome, the lead singer is crazy
Great band
Seen them in multiple times in 80s & 90s
RIP Doc
I was on a cruise ship out of Sydney with the entertainment crew being mostly British. They panicked when they played this song and the passengers added the chant. Double checked the lyrics. Weren't sure if they should stop the song. In the end they just let it happen and asked afterwards where that came from.
😂
He asks the question - "Am I ever gona see your face again?"
and the crowd answers him "No way, Get F@cked, F@ck off!"
Saw the angels twice at the Charles Hotel in Perth , it was awesome !
Excellent reaction Michael 👏🏻

@@michaelgoyettemusic Right on!🔥
It's written on Docs shirt. In the clip
Can't help but crack a grin.
Brings back memories from the late 1980's going to see the Angels at the Old Lion in Nth Adelaide a number of times.
This song was actually ripped off from a Status Quo B side " Lonely Night "
Have you heard what Aussies did to smokey's 'living next door to Alice'😂
He definitely wouldn’t understand that either 😂😂
Alice who the fuck is Alice 😂
Smokie were shite.
The bass is, I believe, a Steinberger Bass. This is an anthemic song. Any Aussie from that age who hears the song name knows the proper response. It basically became a reflex action.
I made sure my kids know the proper response. Got to pass on traditions.
As an Aussie I can tell you if this song comes on anywhere in Aus it still gets the crowd reaction of " No way, get f'd , f off..
They had some great albums.
One of the best hard rock bands live! RIP Doc Neeson.
Y 16th birthday the dj played this and 100 teenagers chanted the reply
These guys played in my high school gym/hall. I had no idea how significant that was at the time, how huge they were. It was Angels + Angry Anderson / Rose Tattoo (I know, right?). Free entry, I mean, we were what, 12? 13? Something like that.
Everybody knew the chant, I had never heard it before, but I remember yelling it as loud as I could. It's just so simple and rhythmic.
I have no idea how my regional high school in the middle of bumfuck nowhere got these guys to do a show.
I'm just grateful to have seen them
Great band. Seen them in Sydney at a workman’s club in 1994 and the energy of the band and crowd was great. Fun moshing was had
Awesomeness the angels have great songs
I think the term pub rock means they can play live, and it rocks.
Its from playing in pubs. Thats where most live bands made their way up back in the days. Unfortunately its hard to find somewhere that has decent live bands now days.
@@tianthee when Big Bands play at a pub 🤩
Mustang Sally is mandatory
It started in a pub in Mt Isa, an inland mining town in the state of Queensland.
Haha Mt Isa is where I saw the angels, opening for Jimmy Barnes at a concert as a teenager back in the 80’s
Hi mate great live band one of my favs in the 70s saw them one Sunday then again monday , 50 miles away
That's brilliant context and makes it all make sense.
G'day folks. As a teenager growing up in Melbourne I saw them at a pub that is sadly no longer here. Sweaty, loud, confronting, and the beers were an absolute steal!
I always thought it was, "no way, get stuffed, fuck off."
The Angels are still together ( without Doc, of course) and touring Australia right now.
Saw them in Berry, NSW just a couple of weeks ago
Seen them in a small pub in the NSW snow fields, with about 100 people, great show, and read what is said on the lead singers T-shirt.
Aussie Pub rock genre is where a number of bands cut their teeth - Cold Chisel, Dragon, Icehouse, Australian Crawl.
