      Because tape doesn’t have enough mud and will cause major problems with blisters as time will pass by ... once the homeowners move in and see all the issues with the seams it will not be so fun to tape without a bazooka

    • @Interior_Works

      @@elvaledecolima Bit of a long winded reply.. I have no particular bias or invested interest in the super taper tool. Actually I use my Bazooka more often on commercial work, I use the Banjo on renovations. After almost 17 years of finishing, if any particular tool had an issue, I would know. Especially any blistering as that's an extremely obvious problem.
      I do jobs day in day out, for years, for the same contractors and builders, under the same mandatory 5 year home warranty. I do display homes, I do spec houses that sit for 6 months. I do RTM houses that are hauled down bumpy gravel roads 200 miles to farm yards.
      I don't get blisters.
      There's many user variables for any and every tool. If there's a problem, far more likely is _user error_ -not an actual issue with the tool itself.
      I could think of many such issues, first and foremost -not having the adjustment dial at the right spot, I have mine tuned like a fine piano. Of course, that perfect adjustment will differentiate with different mud consistencies, so I look for 2 drips in a 5 second count, off my finger, not 3 not 1.
      There's learned thinking and experience involved with operating this tool.
      Tapes are loosely placed into the container, so the there minimal disturbance to mud.
      The fact is, which can be seen in the video, is when I wipe, the mud spreads right across the entire bevels, 5 inches edge to edge, because I've tuned the tool and mud consistency to make sure that occurs every time, I always have a deliberate excess.
      Now, if someone had their mud too dry or too wet, or had their dial too open it would make a big mess, too tight and there could be an insufficiency of mud, -and of course potential BLISTERS. Unfortunately some people actually do this deliberately for speed, basically just "gluing" the tape on with a thin film of mud.
      If someone scrunched all their tapes in, packing them down in the container, so they can go further, that's another potential issue.
      This is *USER ERROR,* not the tool.
      Bazooka is the same way, an inexperienced user can get terrible results. If the plunger isn't primed -by rotating the drive wheel after each stop, a dry spot will occur. If the muds too dry or the drive wheel isn't kept firmly pressed on the wall it will skip and leave a blister.
      If the pail gets near empty, the pump can start putting air bubbles into the bazooka, this translates into blisters when they come out the other end.
      I've personally seen dozens upon dozens of serious blisters by other inexperienced tapers with bazookas.
      Tapes coming up short is another very common problem inexperienced bazooka users get, and its naive to assume they fix it everytime and not just mud over before anyone noticed.
      But that's not reason to denigrate the bazooka, that's the user, not the tool.
      But, unfortunately, I've worked for contractors who openly frown upon the bazookas, and don't want them used on their jobs because of past experiences with finishers using them (wrongly).

      Interior Vids Im in California and not that drywall taping began here but the suburban housing started here after world war 2, here putting tape by hand is frowned upon at job sites maybe because of the mess it can make or simply because it looks antiquated but for the most part jobs out here are meticulously inspected by inspectors and they want to see jobs being done in process by using the Bazooka, tape boxes, and angle boxes. I respect your hustle and give you props for your explanation. So do whatever makes you more productive on the job sites and for you hey keep on going with your process. :)) good day

    Is there a reason why you prefer the pump on the inside corners appose to using the super taper?

    • @Interior_Works
      @Interior_Works  3 роки тому +2

      Slight preference, Reason is that on a vertical inside corner, I can crease the dry tape and feed it out from top to bottom without getting on a ladder; with the super taper I either have to do the corner in two parts or climb a ladder, also the pump/tube and corner applicator leaves a more uniform amount of compound, which the Glazer/flusher tool performs best with. That said though, on smaller jobs I'll use the super taper for corners too, less tools to carry and wash.

    Reason I use the empty box as a tape holder is so I can just toss it in the dumpster after. No cleanup. Admittedly this is not the most Professional appearing method, but it is one of the fastest and easiest on the body.

      That's it. I'm selling my bazooka, it's ruined my elbows and shouders after 35 years and taping like this lifting that heavy bitch. Super taper? I've never seen one. Someone told me long ago that they just put the tape in a bucket but I didn't know how it worked. Just ordered one. I can buy 5 of these for what I can sell the bazooka for. lol

    First time I've seen the box set up around the waist I've found myself usually a longer wire makes it hang lower and I get less on the clothes also do you use the yellow boxes for taping cause I tried once no gloves on with that stuff and it really dried the crap out of my hands almost like a irritating burn now I use latex or a thinner rubber dipped in the winter

    • @Interior_Works
      @Interior_Works  11 місяців тому

      I'll usually just wear whiter clothes and bring a second set of clothes with me on taping day to change into after I'm done. I use yellow box, yeah the stuff is terrible on the hands, especially in the winter, I've had hands so dry and cracked that they bled. I'm often using gloves too now.

    great video as always....Question...i bought a columbia semi auto taper and tried it for the first time today using 90.... for the first couple of feet it came out of the machine perfect...from then on the tape only had 1/4 of it covered, some places missed all together. im getting the feeling i should be using all purpose with it?

    • @Interior_Works
      @Interior_Works  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks, that could happen if the compound was too thick, an air cavity can form in the mud at the bottom of the bucket from the mud being taken up through the tool faster than it can settle back in place. Also, another possibility is dry bits of mud can clog the intake area, blocking the mud from coming up with the tape, if that happens the tool just needs pulled out, open it, wipe the intake blade to remove anything that's there.
      Occasional air pockets can be solved by leaving the mixing stick in the pail and occasionally agitating the mud by hand.
      One more reason could be the adjustment dial is too tight.
      The compound should be quite thin, if you dip your finger in the mud it should drip twice, or nearly twice in a 5 second count, then set the adjustment dial so there's a slight excess as you wipe, but not sloppy
      Takes a while to get it just perfectly set right, so the tapes are going on with not too much mud and not too little.
      I'd recommend using an all purpose, as setting compounds can lose their adhesiveness if thinned too much, unless you're adding a generous amount of PVC glue to compensate for the dilution.
      Also one last tip, let the pulled tapes just sit loosely in whatever holding container you're using, don't be tempted to compact them down.
      Hope that helps.

    • @Interior_Works

      I used to use the flat applicator, and I still do if it's the type of small job where the client or other trades are around, the supertaper can look rather messy and unprofessional. I use the supertaper on new construction houses, usually no one's around and I lock the front door.

      The knife is this one www.all-wall.com/TapePro-Plastic-Wipedown-Knife.html
      I have the metal version, but the plastic one glides better, but mines lost a few inches because I have to file it flat every few jobs . It wears uneven from wiping over bevels. But still like it better.

    this was the method i was taught, from doing it on a baker to doing it on stilts. i want a banjo to atleast try and get into automatic tapers but in all honesty, slapping the tape up by hand seems like it'd be quicker for me. just started running a box today and that was a hard lesson for some reason lol. i just need to work on keeping my sites clean, work in progress ig. Good video man, i love coming to your channel to learn a few things.

    • @Interior_Works

      Thanks, I also use the automatic taper, it's faster but not by much, but also cumbersome in tight spaces and not very useful on high scaffold work. Banjos are slower, but a clean way of doing small jobs. I've been taping for 17 years and keeping clean sites is still a work in progress lol.

      Bazookas more for production work on 8' or 9' lids with a couple helpers to run behind wiping. Bazooka is all I use taping simple apartment blocks, and can't be beat. Supertaper more on scaffolds and complicated modern homes.

      The large gaps I do. I have the dial on the tool set wide open, so there's a big excess of mud on them. The excess fills fills smaller gaps fully. I've experimented by putting tapes on, wiping them, then immediately pulling them off and seeing what fills fully and what doesn't, and that's how I determined what needs prefilled and what doesn't.
