It was an interesting swap in adaptation because this chapter happens way earlier. But by delaying it they manage to make the “reward” feel a lot more packed with emotions.

100% agree... After reading the manga and watching the anime, I did find the way they depicted this far more satisfying, though I like the manga story arc also. I'm highly eager that see how they reimagine it in anime, especially the contact lens, Sis and Brotoro, and the scenes leading to Naoto's mom briefly meeting Hayase.
@@texan-american200 The manga is fine but the first few volumes are rough, something Banashi himself openly admits. I’d say he had a better idea of what he wanted as an overall story by the time the summer chapters rolled in, which is when you actually begin to see chapters that tie into one another.

I found it to be a great start. He was entirely introverted and she overly extroverted. Both didn't know how to interact properly, yet slowly but surely, they begin to meet emotionally in the middle. This is mainly why I like this story. Love at first site and relentless torturing stories make for poor storytelling.
It’s why I love anime. You know how many times I’ve watched whole series just for something like this? 🤣🤣

I was really not having it during the first episode, but I knew it was a good anime, so I kept watching and I do not regret it; the ending song hits so hard if you actually translate the lyrics T_T

I never had a experience like this, but I had found out my last year of highschool from a friend that this girl really liked me, and when I think about it now it was always pretty obvious but at the time I didnt know. I ended up being too nervous to talk to her, even though the teacher put us in a partnered project together. I had like 4 different classes with this girl and never said a dam thing cus I was so nervous. I wasnt weak like senpai, but I sure was shy like him, and for that reason he reminds me of myself a bit. I always wonder to this day, if I had gotten my nerve up and just had a normal conversation and grew to know her and she me, it might have been a relationship that lasted a while.
Take every chance you have guys, and I know everyone wants the hot chick of the class, but if you have someone who genuinely understands and cares about you, take that for sure because its real.
Nagatoro isn't even the worst "bully" in anime.People forget how Haruhi was many times worse at the start of her series.

The "bullying" I've seen from this show is really a matter of perspective. Nagatoro and her friends seem to give everyone, including each other, a lot of crap. It seems the saying, "if they tease you, it means they like you" is the theme of this show. Nagatoro does cross the line in the first episode or two when she makes her senpai cry, which you can consider it bullying as she is hurting him psychologically, but she eventually learns how far to take it with him but he also grows a thicker skin because of her (as seen when he learns to ignore, or take, or even says "shut up" at times). Her friends also seem like bullies, but they remind me of any friendship when guys or girls "give each other shit". They even seem to be helping "push" Nagatoro and senpai together by intentionally making her jealous by teasing her and him (which she only wants to be the one teasing him). Additionally, Nagatoro does not know how to appropriately express herself, so going with what she knows, based on her friendship and how they treat each other, she approaches her senpai in the same fashion. From his perspective, not knowing this at first, his feelings were hurt. Although he might not understand her feelings for him, I think he realizes her mannerisms toward him is much different from the bullying he's received which is why he begins to tolerate her relentlessly taunting him.
Just something to consider for anyone that may have disliked this show because of the "bullying" at first viewing.
Late reply, but I totally agree. This was well stated. I think a bit of people forget how girls often acted around their first crush. I remember receiving a Nagatoro approach when I was a kid more than once. They just don't know how to properly express themselves yet, but they are also naturally a hardheaded personality.
I think people who stopped watching after the first episode really be missing out. The first episode was the worst part anyway, for the reason that it was how it was perceived by a very sensitive guy.

In the manga this scene actually happens earlier, but they did it really well as the final scene of the anime. I doubt there's gonna be a second season, but the manga is still rolling so bittersweet

in chapter 85 Naoto asks her on a date and on this current arc (chapter 100 and on) is leading up to a confession. Our boi has finally admitted to himself he loves her and wants to keep spending time with her even after graduation.
Every time I watch this scene it melts my heart. I love them both so much! 😭😭
