At first I was annoyed that this side story was such a large part of the episode as it didn't seem to matter but the ending sold it for me. It shows Senpai's insecurity that he isn't sure if Nagatoro is hanging around with him as a ploy for the 3 girls to mess with him or if she actually has feelings for him.
I lost my last shred of annoyance once I saw the closing animation.
He has low self-esteem. Even if it's super obvious and the girl goves all the signs. If the guy feels he is not worthy/valuable then nothing will happen.

Nagatoro is the kind of girl that teases you to hide how she really feels, to protect herself from rejection. Making her super easy to bully back.
The ending credits for this episode was adorable
Feels like the backstory of an edgy anime. Next he's gonna turn back time.
Please don't even describe it, I had hope in this thing once and it was destroyed in two episodes, why create a good concept and then turn it into that... I felt betrayed by that thing, I thought at the beginning that it could be interesting to see a character mentally unstable but fundamentally good try to save a world from a menace that don't exist yet by all means necessary making it seem like he is the bad guy... But instead we just got a protagonist straight up demonic that have not even a bit of good in him and whose character is used just as a justification for cheap s*x scenes and whose personality doesn't even make sense (like since when did he wanted to make people become like him? Like he is supposed to repair the world and avoid that the tragedy that happened to him rehappen, it's literally the opposite of what he's doing!). Seriously that premise has so much potential, thematically with a hideous hero using flesh as his weapon but good against a powerful country with a clean and sacred image but fundamentally evil, and it makes me sick to see that all that potential is wasted in edgyness. Truly a disappointment...

Kind of interesting having back to back episodes opening up with dream sequences that reflect Nagatoro and Senpai’s fears.

No, actually it was a nightmare
It was probably a mix between the two. The fantasy part was Nagatora but the nightmare part was her friends also being involved. Senpai's fine with Nagatora teasing him but prefers it be something they only have between eachother.
What I love the most about this show, is that we all were all like "l'll never forgive the japanese!" when we saw they didn't draw them with those outfits in a certain scene a couple episodes before. And then this episode came out and we were:Maybe I'll forgive the japanese.

So, it's a dream sequence revealing Senpai's true fear when it comes to Nagatoro: Not simply that she'll bully him forever, but that their friendship isn't real. That's honestly pretty sad.

Gamo-Chan literally has a whip, giving off string dominatrix vibes. Makes sense as out of the gang, Gamo-Chan is the most sadistic, Nagatoro is a close second, Sakura gives off some subtle psycho vibes and Yoshi is a sweet cinnamon bun who's easily influenced by the others, especially Gamo-Chan

Until they captured and started toying with him at the end, they hadn't done anything objectively bad.
The angel girl isekaied him and literally threw him into it.
The dragon girl was the typical monster encounter where the monster is just minding it's own business, and this hero character comes bringing trouble.
Who could blame Magatoro for inserting herself as Nekotoro to keep tabs on what this "hero" is doing?
