Ohh sis, love your work already... Thank you for just starting. I've struggled and still tackling demon depression. I'm doing poetry and have a memoir (still working on the publishing process) speaking about depression mainly but mental health needs awareness needs all of us. More love and a lot of support. Blessings

Hi Sindisiwe, thank you for the support. Recovery is an ongoing process. We take it a day at a time. I wish you well with your recovery. I know it's not easy. You can handle it. That's what i tell myself daily.

I had to diagnose myself many times. Almost died once because I was sent home when I was supposed to be admitted immediately. I trust Google more than my doctors, unfortunately.

Hi Nomhle, maybe you haven't found the right Dr for you. A mental illness is a serious condition. Don't give up.

Its very nice of you to share your story... interesting!
I'm interested to know in your opinion, what do you think really helped you the most?
Is it the eventual understanding of your own mental state and making sense of the whole thing through Psychotherapy, or is it the mood stabilizers (Pills)?
I don't know, but i'm of the opinion that "The mental habit of policing one's thought", (i.e habit of noticing when ones mind/thoughts are dwelling in the negative and to actively redirect those thoughts/mind it to focus onto the positive) even though easily said than done, is more effective and sustainable than psychiatric medication..
Reason I ask, is because i strongly believe that most mental illnesses are as a result of our own mental maladjustment (or inappropriate reality perception) to environmental stressors.
and if these maladjustment are sustained, they result in the re-wiring of our brain neuronal synapses to fire more and more negative depressive thought patterns
    What your thoughts?

Hi Ayanda. Thank you for watching. It's a combination of what you've already mentioned, support from family and close friends, and acceptance of the illness. I keep reminding myself that although I feel well now, I'm not cured, and need to take my medications daily. And reading a lot on articles(non-medical), and watching videos of people living with bipolar disorder.
