  • The Black servicemembers of the Great War experienced combat, hard labor and an enduring battle for justice both at home and abroad. With the past and the present constantly intertwined in a battle of memory and meaning, teaching and interpreting stories such as those of the Ebony Doughboys is essential. Join historic interpreter Marvin-Alonzo Greer as he explores the complexities of the Black soldier’s experience during the War, as well as the importance of preserving and understanding their history. In conjunction with the exhibition Black Citizenship in the Age of Jim Crow.

This was a great video and informative. My dad was in World War1. He was in transportation. He did not had time for basic training. His unit was the first one in and last one out. He wanted stay in military but they told him no. When he got out the military he refused wear his uniform. Black soldiers were getting killed in their uniforms. These black soldiers and black women should had been treated better thn this. They were there to defend our country as American citizens. God bless all of them. Love you dad
