  • 'Liz Truss Advises King Charles to Abandon COP27 Plans'
King Charles will not attend next month’s COP27 international climate change summit in Egypt, after Liz Truss reportedly advised him to abandon his plans to go.
The Sunday Times reported that the Prime Minister objected to him attending the gathering, despite his passionate commitment to environmental issues.
Neither Downing Street nor the Palace would comment on the report.

I don't know whether the Prime Minister formally advised King Charles not to go, but even a quiet demurrer in private would be enough. When he was Prince of Wales, Charles could speak far more frankly and still make appearances because he was still a subject, not the Sovereign. As King, even making an appearance at a conference would have political implications, and so His Majesty would constitutionally have to give way to the wishes of the Government.

A little bit daft to do. Climate isn't a political issue. The Queen has gone to plenty of summits, and has outright told the climate summit to "act now to safeguard the future of our children" in a recorded speech. The Prince of Wales has similar commitments.
Why should the PM tell the King he shouldn't attend? Even if she thinks his past interventions skirted too close to the political, he's completely within his rights to go.
