- Nothing like catching big trout on your own fly you built!
Fly Rod: Orvis Recon 8 wt 9 foot
Fly Reel: Orvis Clearwater 4
Fly Line 8W weight forward
Fly Pattern: Grey and White Craft fur "Witch's Broom"
Great video!! So cool to see those monster trout on the fly!
Thanks man! Yes they are a load of fun on the fly! Best bait for big trout has been the silver and white streamer fly
Awesome footage.
Thanks! We need some warmer weather back!
nice fish man...glad u keeping them busy for me haha they oughta be well rested cuz its been forever since ive been there
It’s been tough to get out there cause of the wind and weather right now!
If you’re releasing fish please get a net that doesn’t harm the membranes on their fins. It’s a small gripe but watching her get picked up in that net hurt lol
Can u describe the leader u r using?
Very good question. From the fly line to the business end of leader is 30 lb mono. The end where I tie the fly is 16 lb floro. You want 70% of the fly line to be the butt section, then 30% to be the leader where the fly goes! I can explain more if you need me too! Thanks for the question!
What's the total length of the leader? Ty
@@mikestrate1468 depends on the water clarity. For clear water i use a 7’ butt section and a 3 foot leader. For muddy I’ll do 5 foot butt and like a 2’ leader
Great video and some big trout. I wish you have measured them. They were very healthy.
Yeah I didn’t have my measuring board w me that day and I wish I had. I would say just under or around 20🤷♂️ my record is 24”
@@BigBirdFishin I think the last one was at least 20
@@andrewsmith941 agreeeed🤣 did you see that incredible hit??!!!
Nice job!! Care to share the recipe for the fly??😃
If you search on UA-cam, “witch’s broom, postfly” you’ll see his video, and I just mimic the fly, but the key is using a bit less of craft fur on the fly, making it slimmer similar to a Pogy or mullet….hope this helps!
Just watched it. Pretty straightforward tie. I live in SC Murrells Inlet and looking for flies for this season. Thanks
