      Very good question. From the fly line to the business end of leader is 30 lb mono. The end where I tie the fly is 16 lb floro. You want 70% of the fly line to be the butt section, then 30% to be the leader where the fly goes! I can explain more if you need me too! Thanks for the question!

      @@mikestrate1468 depends on the water clarity. For clear water i use a 7’ butt section and a 3 foot leader. For muddy I’ll do 5 foot butt and like a 2’ leader

    Did this recently! Changed my crankbait treble hook to single and landed a nice bass yesterday!!! Easy to remove from the bass and didn't have to worry about getting snagged in the lake! Excellent video!!

    I think the Cabo series is an amazing intro into good saltwater reels they last they are strong. I own a lot of them Paired with good rods it’s all one would need. Just rinse them after every trip and you have no issues Yes I have better more expensive reels that no one but me touch’s but they are great

      If you search on UA-cam, “witch’s broom, postfly” you’ll see his video, and I just mimic the fly, but the key is using a bit less of craft fur on the fly, making it slimmer similar to a Pogy or mullet….hope this helps!

    Great video! Most of my fishing has been deep sea.. trying my hand at trout fishing and oh man.. so frustrating! I put 4lb test on this ultralight rig and I’m considering abandoning it for some heavy braid and just doing leaders it’s so difficult to work with.

      4 lb line is frustrating yes…best knot for trout would be the non slip mono loop knot but you just have to sinch it down lightly and seat the knot…

      @@BigBirdFishin I’ll look that up thankyou! Question for you.. I’m doing some backpacking in the mountains will be targeting some big trout up there. I have a 7ft telescoping rod but I’m wondering if I should go with a 4 piece instead.. do you have any experience with travel rods?

      @@ChristiannTyler all my rods are 4 piece. I’d go w a 7 foot in creeks, but it depends on size of creek. For small creeks 5’-7’ for big creeks, plenty of casting room, a 9’ works well…hope this helps!

      @@BigBirdFishin Heyy here! Yes I meant conventional rods. I’d love to try fly fishing down the line. I do have another question maybe you could help me with. I notice a lot of people using braid with mono/fluorocarbon on top. I understand a leader but why do I keep seeing for example 100yards of braid with 50 yards of fluorocarbon? Is there any application you can think of where this would be beneficial?

      I do not use a swivel! If it’s 15 lb line and above I use a clinch knot if it’s below that I use the improved clinch! I typically will use 20-25 lb test line on my leader for redfish, their mouths are full of little razor teeth…check your line frequently!

      For most trout, redfish and bass applications im using an 8 wt rod and reel…love the Orvis Recon 8W and orvis Clearwater size four reel! Very awesome setup!

    My reel broke after one year. The rod just broke after 3 years. Bass Pro won't stand behind it.

      They should have gave you a new reel…I always get the gear guard, but I’ve had my carbonlites for 5 years…lot of times w rod breaks people are using the wrong line for the selected action. Not saying that’s what happened w yours but many times it’s a big thing…

    Liked your video . I use this knot and have good results with it , fishing here in Ala. those huge Catfish will test a knot . I like to take the tag end and go back through the first loop I made at the beginning , as where you went through the hook eye , Not Saying It's Better , just feel safer !! Good job , keep it up .     i'm having trouble with tying knots with flouro and copolymer line it keeps braking with the uni knot and i've just started trying the palamar knot but it kinks or stretches the line out when i sinch it down i'm going to try the knot you just tied in this video but could you recommend a knot for copolymer line , i use braid for most of my fishing but for like paddle tail swimbait and shakey head or wacky rig i don't need braid and my main knots are uni and palamar knots sometimes i use a clinch knot , i guess i could try the sandiago jam knot ??

      I’ve never found found a knot better for any line that is 4-12 lb test that’s good as this one…vertically jigging however may require a non slip mono loop knot…let me know how the knot I’ve shown you works w copolymer

    How has casting been on this reel for you since this review. I got one about 6 months ago and it casts horribly. A 14 year old bass pro extreme reel outcasts it with ease and my shimano slx casts probably 20-30 feet more with half the brakes on. On my carbonlite I have almost no brakes on and pretty light on the tension and it just doesn’t cast well at all. Did I just get a dud or is it a problem with the reel?

      Man honesty I don’t know what to tell you, because on mine I’ve made no adjustments and it’s been amazing….many times I find the 7 to be a good number on the left side for bass pro reels…try that..even loose brakes though, mine casts extremely well

      @@BigBirdFishin I took it back to bass pro and they did a full exchange of the combo and I fished it for the first time today and it was sooooooo much better than the old one. Something must have been grinding up in the internals because the new one casts really well.

    I tie 4lb test to 50lb leader. I double the 4lb and tie an albright. On the hook I double the 4lb again and tie and improved clinch. I've caught 28lb snook,,jacks,reds etc... anything under 8lb test (mono) I double the line to tie knots. Never failed me in 50 yrs.

      Depends on situation. For flipping matted vegetation in dirty water, I choose 80 lb…for regular baitcast situations, frog spinnerbait ect…I go 65 lb…for spinning I usually go 20 lb but not any higher than that…

      Actually salt strong has tested that theory and they can’t find reasonable evidence to support if knot wetting is better for the line or not, check their vids out…either way sometimes I do it, sometimes not, and I really haven’t found much of a difference, not to say tho that knot wetting is not correct and should not be done…

      A lot of commenters on here have said that. What’s your own reasoning for a loop knot on a jig head? Are you vertically using it? On the fly I use the loop knot but I’m not applying as much pressure on the loop as I am conventional. And I’m using the shrimp horizontally instead of vertically….

      @@BigBirdFishin I find that the loop knot gives the jighead and lure a free motion and movement, which does give it a nice and more natural presentation. The double clinch knot is a great knot. I use it on hooks and swivels. But it is just my opinion. Not trying to enforce anything on any one, but your point does seem valid though. Could give it a try

I tie my loop knots on 15 lbs mono. And you're right. It isn't easy. But with practice you'll get anything in life right. All the best brother

      How many times do you loop your tag line after you have passed the line through? I only loop it 3 to 4 times depending on mood😂 Maybe try less loops. It could help and shouldn't break

      You can purchase them online at a lot of places, and if you’re anywhere along southern coast, they have them at wal marts, and even some hardware stores in the fishing sections! Egret baits is the website but even Amazon Carries them

    You might want to put a small spinner blade on your front hook hanger. Puts out a different vibration pattern that attracts more fish and doesn’t get hooked in grass, branches etc.

    A friend showed me this knot a few years ago and it is a very strong knot. I've used it on line up to 30lb without any problem. I don't know why it doesn't get featured in more videos.

    Ive had mine for a few months and caught some mondos from anything to Chatterbaits and texas rigs and swim jigs very light combo too very good combo for the price
