From the very first time listening to this song I cried....reminds me of my mother who passed in 2022....I was four hours shy in arriving to see her before she died....I sat with her body for hours before they took her away....this song brings me back to that night everytime. I love this song Annie.....thank you.

My mom also passed away in 2022 and I sat with her body though not for so long. However, it was an experience I will never ever forget. I miss her so much. Whenever I dream of her, it makes me happy, even when the dream is not that good, but at least I get to see her.

It may be from what I read that this is a "no persona" album but WOW the way you and the band inhabit the soundscape in this music is just...breathtaking. It truly takes one away somewhere, even somewhere you might not want to go, but need to! On a wonky note, I would give a toe (the littlest one) to get that out of tune flowing sound effect/pedal on the magnificent Rachel Eckroth's piano at the beginning . To sum up my thoughts; YOU ROCK! THIS is aural proof that you just get better and better, and I hope I get to see you perform someday. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ART!

I don't know if I agree -what's a 'true self?' -they're exploratory journeys -daddy's home/ masseduction that enabled her to get here
@@violetgoesshopping I watch a recent an interview of her where she explained that she did what at the moment feel right and is understandable. Masseduction even though that were her lyrics and her songs doesn't feel like Annie, apart from her previous records, she mentioned that was a time where she was demanding a lot from herself. and even though that was the place where she was on time, wasn't feel genuine . This record in comparison feels more like her, the voice melodies, the guitar sounds. the effects created. doesn't seems that she have to go all that route to get here. as she was already all these and her sound is what make her special and characteristic. It is a more mature record sound speaking. massedution have good songs too, however in my opinion this record feels like her.

Dave played on Trent's comeback album in, what was that ? 05 ? Now I just read he played 2 songs on this, heard em and they both reminded me of modern NIN. Then for whatever reason I heard this live in studio and it was just all that could have been / fragility 2000 tour vibes : the day the whole world went away etc.... reminiscent. not at all derivative or anything.
i much prefer this to her produced album vers.
(kinda too liked flea better live on John Mulaneys Netflix talkshow)
being great live is not a bad thing, esp when the source material is good to begin with :-)
