I can't express how much I appreciate this New Grass Rival upload. There was so much magic in this group. The harmonies were just amazing as were their talent on their instrument and choice of songs. Love it.
Sam’s voice is incredible. So is John’s of course, but I feel like Sam would have made an amazing frontman for a country/boogie/rock band a la Little Feat. In another timeline maybe :)
how can john cowan go from looking like that to looking like he did just a few years later? They look like two different people, or maybe I'm getting him mixed up with someone else.
You're right he changed quite a bit but even then he had that unmistakable high lonesome voice. Who knew that years later he would tour with the Doobie Brothers.
He sings calling Baton Rouge and currently playing bass for the doobies.. check him (John Cowan) out singing dark as a dungeon.. he doesn’t look the same
John Cowan has more talent in his toenail clippings than you will ever display. Try looking him up. You can look under Newgrass Revival, Doobie Brothers, John Cowan Band, etc. or just on his name alone.

Thanks Tom... This number makes me feel mighty good...

I remember when Sam used to travel around with a box of records in the early 1970s, and he was definitely a fan of Little Feat!
He sort of is, these days. With his band - he sings Jazz, Blues, Reggae, Psychedelic Rock - he can do it all . . .
